Chapter 10: Chapter 10

The next night...

Rose’s ear drums vibrated from the loud sound that was coming from the dungeon door, she instantly sprang up from the cold floor where she had slept off, her heart falling into her stomach in fright.

She winced from the excruciating pain in her head and stomach, her entire body felt like she was run over by a thousand trains, but she still managed to raise herself from the cold floor.

She didn’t have enough time to think about who might be behind the door because the door was suddenly pushed open, and even though the lightning in the dungeon wasn’t much, she still placed her hand over her eyes from the light.

Her eyes were still sensitive from having been in complete darkness for twenty-four hours.

Footsteps approached her, and soon someone’s shadow loomed over her.

"It’s time to leave," Domink’s voice rang above her.

Rose squinted her eyes as she looked up at the tall guard. She was trying to find her voice and ask him something but she couldn’t bring herself to speak.

Dominik saw that the girl wasn’t corresponding, so he bent over, unlocked her ankles, and lifted her off the cold floor and onto his shoulder.

Rose was too weak to fight; she had no idea where she was being taken as he carried her out of the dungeon, her upper body dangling weakly behind him.

As they came up from the spiraling stairs, she vaguely noticed the red-carpeted stairs that led up to the study where she had witnessed someone die and almost got herself killed too.

As she recalled the event, she became scared for herself. She weakly started to hit her fists against Dominik’s back repeatedly.

"Let me go," She croaked.

But Dominik didn’t flinch. He kept walking past the red-carpeted stairs, pushing open one side of a two-doored giant wooden door and stepping out of the house with Rose on his shoulder.

Rose could only lay on top of his shoulder, taking in the new environment. She vaguely noted that it was night again, so she’d been inside the dungeon for a whole day.

The moon, just like the one she saw in the wood forest, was shining with a hue of red.

The sound of Domink’s feet tapped over the cobbled ground as he carried her toward the high black gate.

Rose finally gave up on hitting Domink and closed her eyes as she was carried across the large compound; she didn’t have the strength to look around and take in the view; keeping her eyes closed was more important to her at that moment as her head pounded hard with her eyes opened.

She heard the sound of the gate being opened, and with three more steps from Dominik, she soon felt herself being lowered from his shoulder, but she was surprised to find herself suddenly placed inside the back of a black van, the door was closed shut before she could even understand what was going on.

Rose felt the car start to move and she laboriously crawled over to a corner and braced herself, though the ride wasn’t rough, but she still felt shaken by the ride due to her weakness. She sat there, unaware of where she was being taken.

After what seemed to be like an hour of riding, the car started to slow down, the sound of tire riding over gravel was heard as the slowly pulled to a stop.

Rose heard the front door being opened and closed immediately, then the footsteps of someone approached the closed door behind the van.

The door was pulled opened and an old man with pointy ears stood beside the van.

"Get down, girl, they’re waiting for you," The man said.

Rose sighed, she could die now and not complain. Death was better than her torturous condition.

She painstakingly lifted herself and climbed down the van, wincing as her ankle throbbed and hurt from having been shackled all day long.

She managed to stand by herself, taking note of how withered creepy trees lined the sides of the wide track and how the red moon cast the shadows of the grim withered trees to the ground behind them.

Where was she?

"Good luck," The man said almost like he pitied her before walking back to the van and driving off, leaving Rose standing alone in the strange place.

When the car drove off, Rose realized that there was a white gate beside her. She was still contemplating whether or not to enter when two pale young men in white outfits emerged from it; one was very slim, almost sick-looking while the other one looked very fit and athletic.

"Oh no," She muttered, scared.

She knew they were vampires right away and unconsciously started moving away from them, but of course, they met her in a matter of seconds and each grabbed her arms, dragging her inside the gate.

"What do you want from me?" Rose asked tiredly, raising her head to see that they were taking her toward a white two-story building with a water fountain at the center of the compound.

She was surprised to see such a bright-colored house in that dark world, but she wasn’t about to be deceived by the color; she knew that everyone in the dark realm was never to be trusted.

They took her up the veranda, but instead of entering the white door at the center of the building, they turned left and walked across the long veranda, dragging Rose’s body down a short stair at the end of the veranda, they finally stopped in front of a small white door, one of the vampires knocking on the door.

"Who’s there?" A woman’s smoky voice sounded from behind the door.

"It’s Elloi, the slave just arrived, Madam Yu," The athletic one replied.

At that point, Rose knew there was nothing she could do other than watch them deliver her into the hands of an unknown creature.

The door suddenly opened after Elloi’s reply to reveal a young Asian woman in white sexy lingerie, but the lingerie wasn’t what caught Rose’s attention.

Rose couldn’t help but gasp audibly at the sight of the person...creature who appeared in front of the door.

Rose wasn’t sure if it was her delirious brain or her tired eyes that was deceiving her, but she believed that the short silver horn she saw on each side of the young woman’s black hair and the wagging pointed tail behind her weren’t fake at all, they looked nothing like a Halloween costume either.

Rose stared frighteningly at her, and when her eyes met with the creature’s, she took an alarmed step away from the door. She wasn’t prepared to look into the woman’s golden serpent-like eyes with indigo slips in them.

But she felt Elloi’s hand grabbing her and holding her in place.

"Oh wow! It’s really human, just like they said," Madam Yu said, sounding amused, she looked Rose up and down with pure interest in her creepy eyes.

"Oh, Bring her in, hurry! The auction starts in thirty minutes," Madam Yu ushered them in.

Rose didn’t know how she felt when she learned that she’d been brought for auctioning. She was brought into a round room with a small chandelier hanging from the ceiling as it illuminated the whole room.

White mobile wardrobes were scattered all around the room, with weird clothes hanging inside them.

"Alright, thank you, handsome men, Madam Yu will take it from here," Madam Yu held Rose by the arm and brought her to her side.

Rose watched the Vampires leave the room, and that relieved her to a certain level. But when she turned to her side and saw Madam Yu still holding her arm, she jumped in fright and almost fell to the floor.

"Careful, human," Madam Yu easily caught Rose’s hand, preventing her from falling.

"Uh, t-thank you, Madam Yu," Rose stammered, trying but failing to keep her eyes away from Madam Yu’s silver horn

"Nonsense!" Madam Yu scoffed, pushing Rose towards a standing mirror that was behind a wardrobe.

"Call me Sis," Madam Yu said, standing behind Rose in front of the mirror.

Rose stood frozen for a second as she felt Madam Yu’s hands on her shoulders; she could also see her slender tail slowly wagging from left to right through the mirror before her, she felt really scared, even though she could sense that the creature lady was trying to make her feel relaxed.

"Um... okay," Rose replied.

"What’s your name?" Madam Yu asked, walking over to a wardrobe to look for something inside.

"Rose, M-Sis," Rose replied.

As she stood in front of the mirror, she used the opportunity to look at herself for the first time in two days, and as she expected, she looked like a hungry ghost with sunken eyes and dried chapped lips, her skin looked dry and pale, she could even see fine lines starting to appear beside her mouth.

"Truly, you don’t look good. You look so pale, you could almost pass as one of the undead if it wasn’t for the heartbeat," Madam Yu said as she walked back to Rose with a few pieces of clothing in her hands.

Rose knew it was true, she hadn’t eaten anything for two days, not even water.

In a way, she was glad she was being auctioned; that way, she got to be away from Cassius.

"But don’t worry, Madam Yu will fix that for you. Come on, let’s get you dressed before the place gets filled up," Madam Yu said to Rose, leading her by the arm toward a medium white dressing table.

"Thank you," Rose said as she lowered herself to the wooden chair Madam Yu had brought out for her in front of the dressing table.

The dressing table also had a mirror at the center and Rose continued from where she had stopped in the other mirror, staring g at her exhausted face.

"Tell me, what kind of master do you want? I’ll dress you according to their taste," Madam Yu asked as she drew out a drawer from beside the table and started bringing out numerous makeup items and dropping them on top of the table.

Rose almost scoffed in reply, but she held herself back, not wanting to offend a creature who had been nothing but kind to her.

"I don’t-"

"Mama! I’m here!!!" A woman’s loud voice interrupted Rose from the now-opened door behind them.

Rose’s attention Immediately went to the door where a slim young woman with very short blonde hair stood with her hands wide open in an invitation for a hug.

Madam Yu looked through the mirror and saw who it was, instantly leaving Rose’s side and running towards the door.

"Oh my! Gwen!" Madam Yu hugged her visitor tightly.

"Oh, Yu, it’s been so long," Gwen kissed Madam Yu’s cheeks, smiling broadly at her.

"Hey, did you bring me a good deal?" Madam Yu questioned, tilting her head to the side to look past Gwen.

"Sure. Beauties! Come on girls, get in and get ready," Gwen ordered, moving into the room to make space for the people behind her.

All this while, Rose sat quietly on the chair, observing the two older women interact; she wasn’t sure what type of creature Gwen and Madam Yu were.

Madam Yu looked so strange; she’d never come across a creature like her in all her years of reading fantasy books. Then, Gwen looked completely human, but Rose had learned the hard way that looks can be deceiving, thanks to Elliot for making her understand that.

"How’s your cub doing?" Mada Yu questioned Gwen as she brought her over to the dressing table.

"Troublesome, as usual," Gwen replied fondly.

From listening to their conversation, Rose understood that Gwen was a werewolf. No wonder she looked human, one can only tell them apart from humans only when they shift to their wolves.

Rose watched as different types of creatures entered the room: elves, werewolves(thanks to Madam Yu.), faeries(because they seemed smaller than an average human.), and other strange-looking creatures and the likes of Madam Yu.

Some creature’s heads were bald with runes drawn on one side of their head, while others had hair but still had runes on their arms. In that room, she was the only one without a mark on her skin.

The creatures all had white robes around their body, looking like they had just walked out of a sauna.

"Yu, Is she the human girl who trespassed?" Gwen asked curiously, staring openly at Rose.

"Yes, Gwen, her name is Rose," Madam Yu replied, resting her hand on top of the table.

"Oh, poor kid," Gwen commented.

Rose didn’t like the way they talked about her like she wasn’t sitting there right in front of them. The normal her would have picked it up with them, but she decided to just let it slide; no need to make trouble with magical creatures.

"Tell us, human, what kind of master are you seeking to purchase you," Gwen asked, fixing her lipstick on the mirror.

"I was just asking her the same thing before you arrived," Madam Yu said as she bent over to bring out the remaining makeup items from the drawer.

Rose was angry by the way Gwen talked about her like she was some object you’d purchase off an Isle from a mall.

"I don’t need a damn master!" Rose said loudly.

Instantly, gasps filled the room, and she felt the eyes of every creature turn to her at that moment.

She knew then, that she had said something abominable to their hearing.
