Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 86: Vengeance On Aldric
Chapter 86: Vengeance On Aldric
"Your Highness, I believe that’s enough wine for today," Derek said, attempting to take the glass from him, but Valerie moved it out of the way causing the drink to tip over and pour on his palm.
"Let me be!" Valerie commanded, glaring at him drunkenly.
Derek straightened up, his lips pressing into a thin line, displeased. It has been two days since his royal highness became this way and he has no idea how to deal with him.
Faeries were beginning to ask questions and demand the presence of the crown prince. He had no idea how long he could hide this. The few times he had forced Valerie out of the room to take on his princely duties and meet the Faeries who had been excited about his return, he had nearly made a fool out of himself, drunk on wine.
Had it not been for his presence, Derek knew Valerie would have landed himself a scandal and the Faeries of the kingdom of Astaria questioning his ability to lead. Thankfully, he manipulated everything from the background and ended the function early.
But the same could not be said for tonight, the king himself had ordered the party for the crown prince Valerie and it would be a huge slap to the face of his majesty if he fails to make an appearance or appear in this state. In one word, Derek was in a very perilous position.
"Your Highness, you have to stop this ...." He finally snatched the glass from him and rejoiced a little bit on the inside only for the smile to be slapped off his face in the next minute.
"Oh no...." Derek’s face paled when he saw Valerie pull out a wine jar from under his bed, opened the cork, and drank directly from it hurriedly.
He should have known this was where they came from. Derek almost thought the prince had an unlimited supply because the more wine he confiscated from the prince, the more wines appeared. He even closed off the royal wine cellar and commanded the guards on duty not to let him through, Valerie must have found a way to get them.
Derek angrily went after Valerie and snatched the jar from his lips, the liquid splashing on his tunic, not that the prince noticed, more like he didn’t care.
"That’s enough!" He snapped at him, his eyes ablaze with anger. This was not the prince he knew. Prince Valerie would not make a fool of himself like this! Valerie has changed since going into the human realm and it wasn’t a good thing. If the King dares to hear of his behavior, Derek let out a shaky breath.
This was the reason royal children are separated from their parents at a young age and honed. They can’t be weak or possess the qualities of humankind. They are not humans but Fae and they rule by instinct, not emotions.
Valerie blinked at Derek, gobsmacked. It was as if he was trying to comprehend that he just raised his voice at him, a royalty. Then without warning, he burst into tears and Derek sighed. Just what has that human girl done to him?
"What do you expect me to do...?" Valerie sobbed, sitting on the edge of his bed and bringing his palm to his face, "I killed her!" He confessed with anguish in his voice.
He removed his hand to look at Derek with tears-stained eyes, "It is all my fault. If only I hadn’t been selfish... if only I didn’t care too much about my position and took her directly to Astaria -"
"You would give up your throne for her?" His second in command asked, shocked. He then huffed in disbelief.
Derek had thought that this was an ordinary infatuation. He assumed the prince’s enamoration with the human would go away, but it seems not to be the case. Perhaps, it was a good thing that she was dead else he has no idea what he would have been forced to do. He would probably get rid of the girl.
Valerie has a future and it was to be the future king of Astaria. Not to mention, his majesty would not allow his desire to be with a human. Mating with a human female, that would be a taint to the royal line. Moreover, there was the dark prince to look out for, prince Aldric
would not give up until he gets the throne he believed was stolen from him. His prince had to get his priority straight before it was too late.
He said to Valerie, "You have to attend the party tonight. I would have the royal kitchen make a brew that would detoxify the effect of the wine in your body."
"No don’t...." Valerie groaned, pushing himself onto the bed, and laid down. He brought his knees up to his chest, and hugged himself, "I want to be alone."
Derek pinched the bridge of his nose with his eyes closed and let out a deep breath. When he reopened them, he revealed, "Prince Aldric would be at the party tonight."
Valerie shot up to a sitting position at the mention of the name ’Aldric’. While he was still drunk, there was a hint of clarity in his eyes and a murderous energy surrounded him such that the room heated with his powers.
Derek lifted his head with pride, it was a gamble but the strategy seems to have worked after all. Revenge was a powerful motivator. With the prince having lost the will to live, he has given him a new purpose. It was killing two birds with a stone. Prince Valerie would guide his throne jealousy while dealing with his stepbrother at the same time.
"He would be there?" Valerie asked a second time, having no idea his hands had formed into fists by his side.
But Derek saw it all and was pleased that his prince was back.
"He would be there." He affirmed, a satisfied smirk at the corners of his lips.
Valerie’s eyes glowed golden with vengeance, "Get me the brew."
