Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 464: A Prey To Catch
Chapter 464: A Prey To Catch
That jerk! Aldric saw red when he noticed Islinda’s hand intertwined with Andre’s. He had only asked Andre to watch over Islinda, not make a move on her! What was it with Islinda and his brothers? Couldn’t someone in this family have a relationship in peace? It wasn’t just Valerie, he now had to fend off Andre as well.
Aldric clenched his fist, praying to the gods because he was about to be summoned for yet another court hearing for the murder of the beloved Autumn prince.
"Are you even paying attention to me?" Valerie placed a hand on his shoulder, holding him back just as he was about to confront Andre.
"What?!" He snapped at him.
Their father, the king, had left after his wife Queen Maeve made her dramatic exit—this wasn’t the end of it, and she would give him grief about this court hearing later. Honestly, Aldric expected a severe punishment and losing his claim to Aimsir. Sure, it would hurt not experiencing the winter cold for two seasons, but it wouldn’t ruin his plans.
The other Queens followed after their father, leaving hastily as his powers were restored. More guards were now stationed in the room, and Aldric wasn’t ignorant to the fact that his presence was no longer welcomed in the palace.
"This isn’t over," Valerie told him, "I’ll find a way to free Islinda, and then your days are numbered, Aldric."
"Well, good luck with that," Aldric sarcastically replied. Not when he planned to end Islinda tonight, his plans were foolproof. According to the laws of their land, he had captured Islinda for trespassing into the Fae realm, and she belonged to him. Nobody cared whether he kept her alive or dead.
Speaking of Islinda, their eyes met, and she looked at her hand intertwined with Andre’s and shuddered. She knew that he knew. Well, good for her. At least she now knew she was in trouble. Aldric relished in the fact that she was afraid of him.
"If you’ll excuse me, brother," Aldric stepped away, but Valerie grabbed his arm again. This time, however, the dark Fae prince was ready. Shadows emanated from his body, a wisp of it slicing Valerie’s hand, causing him to wince and retract his hand.
Valerie stared at the cut on his palm, which quickly healed, and looked at Aldric with a horrified expression, as if unable to believe he had dared to harm him.
Aldric warned him, "Touch me again, and next time I’ll go for your heart."
Valerie didn’t have a chance to respond as Aldric walked away. As he made his way towards the dias, Elena appeared with a wide smile.
"Prince Aldric, it’s a delight to see you’ve gotten yourself out of that mess..." Elena began, stopping right in front of Aldric.
However, she was greatly taken aback when Aldric purposefully walked past her, completely ignoring her as if she were air. She even stopped for him like a fool.
Elena’s face flushed with embarrassment, and she stood in place, trying to salvage what little dignity she had left. She didn’t dare look back, knowing exactly who Aldric was after. Islinda, the human. Although she was shaken by Aldric’s treatment, Elena masked her embarrassment with a small smile, in case anyone was watching.
Aldric continued walking, refusing to let any distraction sway him, his eyes fixed on one person. Well, two people. Islinda and Andre. However, as soon as he took a step onto the dias, he watched as Islinda ran. She exited through the same side door the king and his wives had gone through, and the guards allowed her to go.
Aldric’s lips curled into a smirk. Someone was in the mood to play chase. He was game. A sinister gleam sparkled in his eyes as excitement coursed through his veins. He wondered if Islinda understood the consequences of engaging a fae in a chase. They were primal creatures, and his primal instincts were aroused by the thought of pursuing prey. Islinda had no idea what she had gotten herself into.
Perhaps it was the thrill of the chase, but all the anger Aldric felt towards Andre disappeared, and he walked past his brother, who looked at him in confusion, likely sensing his murderous intentions. They would have a "talk" later, but for now, Aldric had prey to catch.
Unlike Islinda, who was running, Aldric had a strong stride, and the guards didn’t stop him as he approached the side door, following Islinda’s path. Although he didn’t see which way she went through, her scent lingered in the air, and if he focused, he could hear her pounding heart.
The game was on.
Aldric’s eyes burned with a predatory intensity as he chased Islinda through the maze-like halls of the palace. The rhythmic echoes of his footsteps reverberated against the lavish walls, adding an ominous tone to the pursuit. Islinda’s breaths came in desperate gasps as she sprinted, realizing the dangerous game she had unintentionally entered.
The palace, once a symbol of serenity, now bore witness to a primal dance between predator and prey. Aldric moved with a feline grace, his senses heightened by the chase. Islinda’s heart pounded in her chest as she darted around corners, every fiber of her being urging her to escape the clutches of the relentless fae prince intent on claiming her.
Aldric reveled in the thrill of the pursuit, his excitement fueled not only by the physical exertion but also by the primal instincts ingrained in his fae nature. The chase awoken a dormant, ancient predator within him. The palace corridors, once a backdrop of elegance, now became the arena for this exhilarating pursuit.
As Islinda ran, the air crackled with tension, a palpable energy that fueled Aldric’s pursuit. His senses honed in on her every move, the chase heightening his senses. He could easily catch her in a heartbeat, but Aldric intentionally let her maintain the illusion of escape, only to snatch away her freedom at the last moment. Just as he always does.
