Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 298: The Weird Cat
Chapter 298: The Weird Cat
"I think this is it." Islinda breathed as soon as they arrived at her doorstep. They were finally back at the castle and for the first time, it was not stifling.
"This is the point we say goodbye, princess." Eli said, a glint in his eyes.
He stepped towards her and Islinda’s heart began to race in anticipation. He was about to kiss her! He was going to kiss her! She unconsciously swallowed down saliva.
Eli leaned down so his breath tickled her cheek and his hand cradled her face, tilting her head as he searched her eyes, seeking permission. He must have gotten the consent he needed, their faces so close now they exchanged breath. Eli’s lips barely brushed across hers when he jerked away with a curse, glaring down at her cat.
That was when Islinda realized that Prince Wayne scratched him – not that Eli knew she still attached the prince title in the end.
"I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize he would do that. We must have startled him with the sudden closeness, although that doesn’t mean he had the right to hurt you. I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again." Islinda apologized profusely.
Yes, she would make sure the next time they kissed, the cat wasn’t sandwiched between them. Islinda couldn’t blame the cat for reacting that way. She would have done the same way if two adults were about to suck faces right in front of her.
Eli scowled at the cat, "Are you planning on letting that damned thing sleep in your room? Do not think of it. I’ll have the servants set up a place for it."
Islinda’s brows furrowed, "Tonight?"
"Immediately," Eli stated, "I don’t know much about these damned creatures but I know enough that it’s all or nothing for them. They are quick to claim territory, so your room should never be an option to them."
Islinda didn’t know any of this and the excessive information was making her head reel. She rubbed her forehead with her free hand, stressed out, "Still, don’t you think it is a bit too much to make your workers build a pet house tonight?"
She had hoped Eli would empathize with her reasoning, but it shouldn’t have surprised her when he answered callously, "What is too much? I pay them for their hard work and they should be able to deliver efficient services."
Islinda’s mouth opened and closed helplessly. How would she explain empathy to someone who doesn’t understand it, especially when it doesn’t involve her?
However, she did not give up and pressed on, attempting to convince him, "Please Eli, it’s just tonight. Do remember that I have to bond with Wayne as well."
"It’s the bonding part that I’m concerned about." He retorted dryly, his eyes piercing through her.
Damn, this Fae and his jealousy. Not that he would admit it.
"Aw, come on! Please?" Islinda pouted her lips, giving him her best puppy face.
Eli’s mouth twitched as he fought back the laughter. She looked quite hilarious. His princess was quite tenacious, he couldn’t deny her anymore.
"Fine. Do whatever you want." He grudgingly gave in
"Yes!" Islinda leaped at him, throwing an arm around his neck with an expression of pure joy on her face.
"Thank you." She told him with a twinkle in her eyes.
Eli’s eyes flickered down to her lips and a blush crept up her face. He leaned in again, but this time, he eyed the cat in her arm warily and without hesitation, pressed a quick kiss to her forehead and stepped back.
He gestured to her door, "You should go in now."
"Goodnight Eli."
His lips curled, "Goodnight princess."
For a moment there, Islinda was tempted to throw caution to the wind and just be with him for the night. She swears Eli felt it as well because his eyes darkened slightly, however, her courage failed her. It all seemed easier in her imagination. She saw the way Eli’s face fell before he quickly schooled his expression.
Islinda waved at him nervously and quickly went into her room and shut it. She leaned her head back against the door with a sigh, before sliding to the ground with the cat in her arms.
She lifted Prince Wayne to her face and he mewled at the movement. Islinda muttered, "I don’t know whether to be honestly relieved or disappointed you stopped that kiss."
Islinda knew deep down that the kiss would have changed everything. Eli had effectively brought down her walls and a push was all she needed to crumble to pieces.
"Perhaps I should thank you," She smiled down at Wayne, stroking his head tenderly and he leaned into her touch.
Her feelings for the dark Fae prince were complicated and it would do well not to complicate it further.
"Well, welcome to your new home, your noble Highness, Princess Wayne." Islinda rose to her feet to give him a tour of the place, "Although it would be good to note that this place belongs to me and it’s only a temporary abode. So do well not to claim my room as your territory else I have no idea what that scary Fae would do to you and I might not be able to save you." Islinda instructed the Cat as if it were able to comprehend her.
Well, this was the Fae realm and their pets should be able to have a higher level of intelligence, right?
Islinda showed him around, the tour ending with the bathhouse and that was when it occurred to her that she had to wash up before going to bed. Islinda placed Wayne on the bed and he began to wander about as if testing his new territory.
Stepping back, Islinda reached behind her for the zipper and pulled it down, the gown dropping to the ground and pooling around her feet. Islinda swore she saw Wayne’s eyes grow to the size of the moon and he quickly turned his back to her leaving her flabbergasted.
Was he really highly intelligent? Was she not supposed to strip in front of her cat?
Feeling suddenly self-conscious, Islinda shuddered and picked the dress, using it to shield her body. That was one weird cat.
