Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 297: Save Her
Chapter 297: Save Her
"What do you think I should name him?" Islinda asked Eli in the carriage. They were on their back to the castle. The date had been an eventful one and she had a good time. Sadly, all good things must come to an end.
Contrary to her thoughts earlier, Eli did not harm the cat in any way and had merely returned it to one of the stall owner’s staff to be kept away.
"Name him whatever you want," Eli blunted out.
His arms were folded across his chest while he looked out the window. Islinda was a bit disappointed that he didn’t share the same enthusiasm as her toward the cat, however, she didn’t give up. He would come around one day. After all, who wouldn’t like such an adorable cat?
"Hmmmm," Islinda stroked her chin, thinking seriously. She looked down at the cat’s majestic white fur and one name came to her mind.
She said, "Perhaps, I should name him Prince, he sure is noble-looking."
Eli’s head whipped around so fast he nearly startled her.
"You scared me," She placed her hand on her chest, calming her racing heart. Also, why was he glaring at her?
"Don’t you dare," Eli warned her.
Islinda was confused, "Don’t I dare what.... ?" Wait a minute, it suddenly dawned on her. She turned to face Aldric with a teasing look on her face as she said, "Don’t tell me you don’t want to share the title of prince with him?"
Eli did not answer, however, the disgruntled sound that he made in his throat was all the confirmation that she needed.
Islinda burst into laughter, this was unbelievable. Eli was so jealous that he could not even share the title of prince with a cat. A mere cat? This was simply hilarious.
"Are you done laughing?" Eli asked, his countenance darkened and he was unpleased by her mocking laughter.
Realizing that the dark Fae prince did not enjoy her mocking him, Islinda decided to make it cheer him up by scooting over to him.
She nudged him, "Are you mad at me?"
No answer came from Eli nor would spare her a look.
"You seem to be mad at me." She pointed out, now leaning into him and poking his cheek with a finger, "You look kind of cute when you’re mad at me." She giggled.
He turned to scowl at her but Islinda pecked him on the lips so quickly it almost seemed like nothing happened, leaving him stunned.
Islinda tucked her hair behind her ear, shyly, "I didn’t mean to make you mad, so don’t be, even if you look kind of cute. Jealousy is a fine color on you."
"I’m not jealous!" Eli protested.
Islinda shrugged innocently, "Then why won’t you let me name him Prince?" She pressed on the issue, hoping he would admit his jealousy.
"Because I am the prince of that castle and you are my princess, everyone else is under my jurisdiction, including the damned thing," He referred to the cat with detest.
"So you don’t want to share the glory with him. That is quite childish and I can’t believe we’re arguing about this," As if concurring with Islinda’s words, the cat meowed at the same time and one should have seen the murderous look Eli gave it, prompting her to pull the poor thing to her chest protectively
She suggested light-heartedly, "Or perhaps you can think of it as your baby, your little prince, that way you wouldn’t be worried about sharing authority with him. Sounds better, right?" Islinda was proud of herself and waited for his response with anticipation.
But she was discouraged when he gave her a long look that made it seem like she was stupid instead. Eli made it clear to her, "That damned thing is not my baby and would never be my baby, neither do I intend to have children in this life till I join my ancestors."
Islinda froze at once, she turned to look at him with wide eyes, muttering, "Y-you don’t intend to have kids? Why? Why would you not want to leave your seed behind?"
"Why would I pass this curse to my child?!" Eli snapped at her, not that she was affected by it. It seems Islinda had braced herself for this conversation already, having had an inkling of how he would react to it.
His expression indicated pain, but his lips slid into that familiar wry smile, "There is no doubt that any child I bring into this world would be a dark Fae. The curse is quite dominant and powerful. So why would I want my child to be subjected to the same injustice, maltreatment, mockery, and threat that I experienced? Every day that passes draws closer to my death and it won’t be long before my life isn’t spared anymore. Bringing a child into this discriminatory realm would be selfish of me and unfair to my poor offspring. And that is why everything ends with me."
Islinda felt a tight feeling in her chest after hearing those words from Eli. It just didn’t feel right, nor did it sit right with her. Why would his generation end like that? Even monsters have children, so why shouldn’t he?
"That sounds unfair." The words left her lips unknowingly.
"The world is unfair," Eli stated, "Aldric intends to take over the throne and make this realm habitable for his kind. It’s a nice dream. But to do so, there would be lots of bloodshed and I doubt the royal family that stands in his way would be spared. I seek such a world as well. A world where innocent dark Faeries wouldn’t have to live in hiding or be hunted down because of a curse brought about by their ancestors. This war has raged on for too long and needs to stop. "
A strange silence fell in the carriage as both of them were left to their thoughts.
Islinda was conflicted, due to her past relationship with Valerie, she believed he was a good Fae and would be a perfect king for Astaria. However, all races were supposed to be treated equally, and didn’t support the killing of dark Faeries who were deemed evil.
She too would love a world where dark Faeries and the other light Faeries coexisted. But with Aldric’s methods? No way. She could already guess the mayhem and killing to come. Islinda didn’t want Valerie to die, but she didn’t want Aldric to be maltreated either. Why was everything always so complicated?
She inquired nervously, "If it was left up to you and not Aldric, would you sacrifice the royal family to get the perfect world you dream of?"
Eli answered, "There is nothing like a perfect world. If it were up to me, I would agree with Aldric’s methods. It would be hard, but no victory has ever been gained without bloodshed. But..."
"But what?" Islinda was at the edge of her seat, burning with curiosity.
"You came into my life and my priority has changed. My utmost dream is to keep you safe and it’s let me see it from another perspective. If you would come with me, I think I can leave this realm and go to another. There, I would build a safe haven for my kind. All would be welcomed, with no discrimination. It would be a land for the rejected ones. And you my princess... " He took her hand and intertwined it with his," Would rule with me. That is if you want to. "
Define pressure. It is not other than a situation where a dark Fae prince with split personalities practically proposes to you to be his queen in a utopia land that is yet to be acquired. And the supposed queen in question has planned to escape tomorrow without the prince knowing. Yeah, she was doomed.
"Do I need to say yes now?" Islinda squeaked, her voice high-pitched from the shock.
"No, princess. Take your time and think about it. I don’t want to pressure you
I’ll do well to keep this from Aldric as well else he sabotages it. I told you, the both of us don’t always agree on some things."
If only Eli knew she was pressured already.
"S–sure," Islinda answered quickly, pulling her hand from his and using it to fan her face, "Why is this carriage suddenly hot?"
"I can make it cold if you want to," Eli offered her only for her to shout, nearly jumping out of her seat, "No, thank you!"
She laughed nervously, "I think I’m good." What in the world had she even been thinking in the first place?
Eli looked at her strangely, "Are you sure you’re okay?"
"Of course, I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?" Islinda was flustered and on the edge at the same time, "Also I think I’m going to name the cat Wayne. You don’t need to worry about him stealing your title anymore, you’re the only and only prince. Prince Eli! Woohoo!" She grimaced, "I think I’m going to shut up at this point."
Islinda gently turned the other way, hugging Wayne to her chest.
Someone save her.
