Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 259: Killed By Her Own Hands
Chapter 259: Killed By Her Own Hands
For someone who was not interested in Aldric, a part of Islinda deep within rejoiced at his return. Her heart began to race and a small smile tilted her lips as she opened her eyes to see.... Issac?!
It was Issac.
Every trace of excitement vanished from Islinda’s face and her look was almost comical as if she had plunged face first into freezing waters and wasn’t able to control the huge show of disappointment on her features.
However, Islinda stared into Issac’s scowling face and was confused. Before she had the time to question why he didn’t seem excited to see her when he had been the one to ruin her moment, the Fae grabbed her hand so tightly she yelped and let go of the knife and it dropped to the soft glass.
Oh, Islinda realized why he looked furious. Issac thought she was about to kill herself. Well, to be precise, she had indeed been planning to test Aldric’s resolve by slitting her own throat. Seriously, he shouldn’t have attempted to break her hand just to retrieve the knife. Damn it, if only he had come a minute later?
Islinda’s attention was drawn to Issac who snatched the knife from the ground and right before her eyes, he began to distort the blade till it was bend over and she couldn’t revert it to its former shape even if she tried to. Of course, such a procedure didn’t come without injury considering how sharp the blade was, Issac’s hands were bloodied but he did not seem to care at all.
The wounds had closed up on their own before he was done and shooting her one last glower, he tossed the crooked knife as far as he could into the distance and Islinda did not even see where it landed. Yes, that was intentional. Islinda scoffed inwardly, as if that would stop her from getting her hands on another knife.
However, with the knife gone, it meant that Issac’s attention was back on her and she couldn’t help but gulp when their eyes accidentally connected.
Islinda put up her hand, "I can explain -"
Issac closed the distance between them with just a stride and yelled right at her, "What in the Fae were you thinking?!"
Islinda grimaced, she could already feel a headache coming. Why do male voices have to be so loud and powerful?
She let out a deep breath, holding his gaze, "I was not planning on killing myself," Islinda shrugged, "Kind of?"
Issac’s eyes flashed and he growled, "Are you kidding me right now?"
"I was only trying to lure Aldric out of his hiding place. The birds," She pointed at the ravens who have now settled from their frenzy, "Are his messengers. I thought why not threaten him with my life in a place where he could get the news faster? I’ve seen him teleport in a twinkle of an eye, he could have stopped me on time," She explained to him.
"And what if Prince Aldric had not arrived on time?" Issac questioned her, the raging intensity in his eyes daring Islinda not to lie to him and the fight left her body.
Issac scanned the garden, pointing out, "I don’t see any sign of Aldric here. So tell me, Islinda, what would you have done if I had not arrived?" He asked with a low, shaky, and barely restrained voice.
A shiver of alarm went through Islinda, instinct warning her that the answer would shatter the control Issac was barely holding on to. Yet, she couldn’t lie to him. Something told her that would be way worse.
Drawing a deep breath, Islinda licked her lower lips nervously, gathering the courage to confess, "I would have slit my throat."
Issac’s eyes went wide with horror, but she quickly added, "However, I have it all planned out. Even if Aldric arrived seconds later, there was Zaya the healer. I’m sure Aldric would have healed me before -"
But Islinda was cut off when Isaac abruptly grabbed her shoulder, locked eyes with her and lashed out,
"Have you fucking lost your mind?!"
The blood left Islinda’s face, rattled by Issac’s outburst. However, the shock soon gave into pain because Fae’s grip on her shoulder was too much. He was nearly crushing her bones.
"You’re hurting me, Issac," She cried out.
But either Issac’s mind was too away or he didn’t seem to care because his hold did not ease one bit. He continued, "I thought Aldric was the only mad one in this household but you seem way worse, or perhaps, you learned from the worst teacher."
"Issac..." Tears filled her eyes and she whimpered, "Y–you’re hurting me -"
Issac jerked from her as if recovering from the blind rage that had washed over him. He wiped his palm down his face as guilt gnawed at him. Islinda looked pitiful, her fragile human body weak with exhaustion. Mental exhaustion.
But he pushed the emotion away, scolding her instead, "You shouldn’t have done that. What if you had died? Yes, Aldric has indeed use for you, however, don’t overestimate your worth. Prince Aldric and Valerie have been at each other’s throats for years. I’m sure there are other weapons Prince Aldric could use against his Highness, with or without you, Islinda. "
Hearing those words from Issac was a rude awakening and it sure felt like a sharp slap across the face. Rosalind had so much emphasis on her worth to Aldric that she had gotten a bit carried away, thinking she was something special. Islinda forgot that Aldric was a cold emotionless feeling.
Her disappointment soon gave in to embarrassment. She could have died moments ago, killed by her own hands. How foolish that sounded. Unshed tears of humiliation started to burn her eyes and she looked up at Isaac, and pleaded with him, "Please, don’t tell anyone about this, especially Aurelia."
Aurelia would....no, Islinda shuddered at the thought. The Fae might even stop her from going outside if she heard of the attempted suicide.
"I think you should be more worried about them," Issac pointed at the Ravens flying off one after the other to the gods knows where as if summoned or something. Probably going to report to the bastard, Aldric.
Her face distorted, "Just my luck." Islinda pressed her lips onto a thin line.
Issac’s expression was a stark contrast from earlier, his features softened now. He said, "Aren’t you curious how I came to find you?"
Islinda faced him, brows raised, "Now, I am curious.."
Issac scratched his neck awkwardly, looking anyway but at her face as he said, "I think I need a kind of favor from you."
