Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 211: You Should Have Died
Chapter 211: You Should Have Died
Late at night, the moonlight glinted in the stream that was frozen solid. However, the tranquility was disrupted when a figure suddenly broke through the surface with a refreshing breath.
This was no other than Aldric who had gone to the stream to ’calm down’. It was quite hilarious in the sense that he had mocked Issac for being cockedteased by Maxi and now, here he was sharing the same punishment.
He walked fluidly out of the stream, pushing back his wet blackish-blue hair matted to his face and rivulets of water flowing down his body. It was a good thing Islinda was not here to see this, she would have suffered a nosebleed because Aldric was stark naked and he wasn’t one bit bothered that anyone could walk into the scene.
His powerful body was fully on display and Aldric looked relaxed in his environment. A certain sizable part of his body had finally cooled off after spending quite a while playing dead beneath a frozen stream. Had it been a human who attempted the same stunt, they would have drowned or died from hypothermia. But that wasn’t the case with Aldric who was chilling in his element; he was unaffected by the cold.
He squeezed the rest of the water out of his hair and picked his pants from the branch of a tree where he hung it. Aldric had just finished putting on his pants when he heard the flapping of wings and the next, a raven perched on his shoulder with ease as if this was not the first time it executed such a move.
"Hello, my babies," Aldric spoke to it like an old friend. At first, it sounded like he was speaking to just the raven, but a flock of the crows perched on various branches of the tree while a few soared through the sky, circling the area where Aldric stood, their sleek feathers glistening in the moonlight.
Their presence was menacing but Aldric was at best comfortable and looked delighted with them. The one on his shoulder cawed loudly and Aldric patted its head as if he understood the creature.
"Sorry that I haven’t visited for a while, I have been quite busy, which of course you know, since you have been spying on our new friend. Speaking of our new friend, tell me, what do you think of her?" Aldric asked, finally making a move as the birds followed after him, always ensuring he wasn’t out of their sight.
The raven cawed intelligently and Aldric laughed aloud," She’s ugly? What an interesting perspective. But then, no one is more pretty than my babies," He stroked their ego and what followed next was the birds cawing in the trees.
"However, you have a message for me," Aldric pointed out, staring down at the small paper wedged in between the Raven’s talon on his shoulder. He took it.
Rolling open the paper, he went through the message written on it and snorted in response, before scrunching the paper into a small ball and throwing it behind him without care.
"Interesting. It seems we are going to have visitors tomorrow. Do tell my brother that I would be awaiting his arrival, would you?" Aldric instructed the bird, tenderly stroking the side of its head while peering into its intelligent eye.
The raven who seemed to be in charge turned on Aldric’s shoulder and cawed loudly as if instructing the others as it flapped its wings and the next, the unkindness of Ravens took off, leaving Aldric all by himself.
The dark prince strolled through the garden, stopping particularly in front of a dense thicket that housed a blue flower. He stroked the flower, intentionally pricking his finger on a thorn and a drop of his blood on the flower turned all the petals purple as if the plant had fed on his blood and thrived.
"It wouldn’t be long now," Aldric muttered to himself, withdrawing his hand and clasping it behind his back.
He then walked up the cobbled path that led back to the castle, moving through the hallway when he caught a shadow and Issac stepped into his path as if he had been watching all those while and waiting for him to pass through this spot to approach him
"Prince Aldric...." Issac stood before him, weariness on his face, and couldn’t even look him directly in the eyes, weighed down by the guilt.
Aldric’s countenance changed as soon as he saw that it was Issac, his jaw set hard while a vein pulsed visibly in his neck with his hands forming a fist.
Although he expelled a deep breath, his expression was still hardened and he strode past Issac, shoving him out of his way.
"They forced me to make an oath," Issac said and Aldric halted at once, giving him a rare chance to explain himself.
Issac turned to him with a guilty look and went on, "I wanted to tell you so many times but the oath wouldn’t let me. Even if I did speak, you know how the oath works, I would have died, Prince Aldric." That was his excuse.
Aldric turned to him with a dark look, "Then you should have just died." He spat and left before he let his anger take over and end his pathetic life.
Aldric was a warrior fighter who disliked cowardice so much. Left alone, he would rather die than lose his honor.
He had been attracted to Issac’s honesty and the Fae paraded himself as righteous, until now. Issac was just like the others, a big hypocrite.
He arrived at his quarter and would have walked in with that simmering rage in his veins until he recalled there was a certain human on his bed and didn’t want to scare her. So he calmed down and barely walked in only to stop short at the scene that greeted him.
"What in the Fae, Islinda?" Aldric was dumbfounded at the sight of his emptied wardrobe.
