Chapter 200: Islinda Is In Danger
Chapter 200: Islinda Is In Danger
Issac woke up with a startle, relaxing slightly when he realized it was Maxi in bed with him. Ever since that night, he returned the "favor" to her, she hadn’t attempted teasing him again and had been surprisingly respectful of his boundaries. However, Issac knew this was just for a moment and she was merely building tension and keeping him on his toes. Sooner than later, she would surely strike.
However, that was not the reason Issac was uncomfortable tonight. Ever since the day he handed Islinda’s hair to Valerie, the guilt has been killing him inside. He has been secretly checking out Islinda, trying to see if there were any changes in her demeanor. But so far, she was still the same.
But he knew deep down that it was only but a matter of time before Valerie went on with the ritual. He now had the hair, the final ingredient he needed in his plan. He wanted to speak out so badly that it hurt. While he and Islinda could not be considered besties, he still did not wish her such a fate. He liked her. And Islinda needed to have a choice in the soul exchange.
Issac sat up, lowering his legs to the ground while he rubbed a palm down his face. Fuck! He could not do this anymore. He had to find a way to let the truth out. Hiding such a huge secret was beginning to suffocate him. He stood up to his feet and snatched a tunic from the wardrobe and put it on.
He could tell his movements had awakened Maxi but she pretended to still be asleep. Isaac let her be, he didn’t need distractions anyway. He put on his shoes and hastened into the hallway. He came down to her floor and didn’t knock on Islinda’s door, opening her door and stealthily coming in, afraid to wake her.
She was sleeping peacefully or so he assumed until he came closer and realized that Islinda was frozen in place. Her eyes were wide open and stared fixedly at the ceiling. Issac could tell from the lost look in her eyes that she was under the influence of something. Some sort of magic or spell....Fuck! It was going on tonight. The soul swap has begun!
Issac ran out of the room like a mad Fae having just one intention in mind and it was to find Aldric. All this while he had been scared of saying the truth and losing his life. He couldn’t die yet, not with his mother and sister around. But what kind of Fae would that make him? One of his core principles was being disciplined and righteous. He would lose those values once Islinda’s soul is taken from this body.
When Issac arrived at the dark prince’s bedroom, there was no sign of him and that increased his anxiety. Where could he have gone at a sensitive moment like this? Then it hit her.
At once, Issac rushed down to the lab and there he found Aldric who lifted his head and raised a brow at his sudden disturbance.
"How nice of you to check up on me, Issac. However, I could tell from the troubled look on your face that there’s more to this late-night visit, isn’t it?" Aldric said, stirring a blackish mixture in a conical flask.
"Islinda is in danger," He said and Aldric’s movement halted at once.
A long silence followed after that revelation and Issac swallowed thickly knowing chaos was about to be unleashed. For a minute, Aldric stood unmoving, his feet stuck to the ground. And the next, he moved so quick as lightning, Issac gasped when he was suddenly pinned to the wall, his hand on his neck.
A miasm of shadows surrounded Aldric, the magic threatening and suffocating even as the dark prince choked him.
"What have you done?" Aldric snarled in his face, a feral look in his eyes.
Issac had never seen Aldric lose control like this and it was because of Islinda. It seems the girl affected him more than he let on, or she was just too useful to his cause he couldn’t lose her.
He spoke with difficulty, " I-I can’t say it... You are wasting time,"
Aldric finally let go and he collapsed to the ground, heaving and rubbing his throat where he could feel the bruise. Issac knew Aldric did not let go of him because he was done, rather he had more pressing Issues.
The switch in Aldric’s demeanor was instantaneous. There was not a hint of a smile on his cold face as his warrior side was out and he powerfully strode over to Islinda’s room. There he found her and just as Issac said, something was not right with her.
He shook her, "Islinda, wake up," But there was no change, her gaze fixed and unmoving. He shouldn’t have left Issac alone without ripping the truth from his mouth, but there was no time to go back and make good on that.
Aldric slapped her cheeks this time, "Come on, Islinda. Come back this time."
With years of experience as a warrior and having seen many situations, Aldric knew instinctively that he couldn’t manipulate anything from this side. So he got on top of her body and looked straight into her eyes, getting into her head. It was hard but he manipulated and connected with a fragment of her consciousness and finally saw her.
It was an out-of-body experience because her consciousness led him to a strange place. That was when it dawned on him, that Islinda’s soul had been summoned and he saw who was responsible for it.
When Aldric returned to the present, there was a scary fury in his eyes, his expression hardened. He exuded such great bloodlust it was a good thing no one was around to incur his wrath. He then closed his palm around the medallion on his neck tightly. His jaw was clenched when he closed his eyes and imagined the scene he had seen. He had gotten the information he needed and teleported to his destination.
