Mated To The Cruel Prince
Chapter 165: Caution Was Not Her Style

Chapter 165: Caution Was Not Her Style

Islinda never thought she would be able to sleep while being filled with nerves and excitement at the prospect of sneaking out of the castle, however, she dozed off as soon as her head found the pillow.

She was deep asleep when someone touched her and she woke up screaming, or at least tried to because a hand clasped her mouth, cutting off the sound.

"Hello."

It was Maxi and she looked thrilled.

Islinda sat upright sluggishly, still feeling sleepy. Maxi woke her at the best part and she was nearly tempted to lie back down. But she had no idea when another opportunity like this would arise. Also, she couldn’t disappoint Maxi. A deal was a deal.

"Is everyone asleep?" She yawned, stretching out her body, and forced herself to her feet.

"Yes, we can leave now," Maxi announced, looking out through the open window like a burglar ready to cart away its victim’s property.

"Okay." Islinda breathed, heading to her wardrobe and took out a furry overcoat which she put on, and struck a pose, "How do I look?" She asked, unsure,

"Do you think I’m overdressed for the occasion?"

"Nonsense! You look perfect!" Maxi stared at her with fascination, almost like a child enamored with a new toy.

Islinda blushed under her steady gaze, stunned by her sincerity. The Fae sure did not have a shy bone in her body.

Before Islinda slept off, she had taken off the gown and wore her usual tunic which had elaborate embroidery on it, and dark pants. Now, all she had to do was put on her boots that reached up to her knee. Unlike her, Maxi was wearing a thin strap gown that made her question if she had forgotten it was winter.

"You should wear one too," Islinda brought out another of her furry overcoats although it was of a different color.

"No, I don’t need -"

"This way we would look like sisters," Islinda said and that was all it took for Maxi to cover up.

Islinda stepped back to appreciate the sight, grinning at her handwork. They were covered thoroughly from their head to their feet and were good to go.

"Now, one last thing, sit. " Maxi said, pushing her back onto the bed and that was when Islinda realized Fae came with a small bag.

She told her, "If we are going to have fun tonight, we need to blend in with the others and I have all we need."

It turned out that Maxi was good at disguises and applying face paint because Islinda ended up having pointed ears and not even a single magic was used. However, Islinda noticed she hid the unique markings on her face and that prompted her to ask,

"Why do you hide them? It’s beautiful." She wanted to know.

Maxi said, "Being different draws attention, we don’t want that, do we?"

Although she answered her, Islinda was not thoroughly satisfied with her response. Does it mean she was different from other Faeries? Was she like Aldric?

Islinda’s heart skipped a beat, suddenly feeling alert. However, Maxi has not given her a reason to be cautious. If she was a bad person, Issac would have warned her. Moreover, caution was not her style.

Instead, Islinda looped her arm around hers, "I guess we would be different together," She smiled at her.

Maxi smiled back and it was a beautiful sight to behold. If only the Fae was male, she would have chosen her over Valerie any day.

"Come on, It’s time to leave," Maxi told her, heading towards the window.

"But the door is that way?" Islinda pointed with confusion on her face, wondering why the Fae was reaching for the window. She had a bad premonition about this.

"Unfortunately, no. Doing so would alert a shy Fae about my move and Aldric is too busy to chase after us."

"Busy?" This was the second time Arianna was hearing the dark prince was occupied. With what? She had no idea.

"There’s no more time to waste, Islinda. It’s now or never." Maxi had to come over and grab her by the hand, pulling her along.

"No, no, this is impossible. I can’t jump from the window." Islinda could not see how escaping that way was possible. Nor did she see Maxi possessing wings. No, she still loved her life, as miserable as it was.

To make things worse, Islinda looked down and though it wasn’t even the uppermost part of the castle, she would still sustain an injury if she were to jump down from the height. She winced at the thought of broken bones.

"You would not be jumping alone, but with me," Maxi told her, perched on the window sill like some kind of bird.

And yet, Islinda shook her head stubbornly.

"Just let me leave through the door. I will not make noise and will tiptoe all the way," She promised to be careful.

But Maxi cupped her cheek without warning, causing her to expel a sharp breath, disarmed by their closeness and how ethereal Maxi looked.

"Do you trust me?" Maxi asked, fixing her with a stare and she couldn’t look away.

"No" Islinda was sure of her answer, only to find herself nodding her head instead

"Good." Maxi was pleased with her answer, "Now close your eyes and count to five, then we jump."

She nodded her head again as if she was charmed and closed her eyes to count down to the moment of doom. But at her third count, Islinda felt a hard tug, and the next, she was sailing through the air.

Islinda could not even scream, the sound was stuck in her throat with her eyes tightly shut in terror. She was going to die! But a hand wrapped around her waist while in the air and they landed on their feet, instead of breaking their necks.

It took Islinda minutes to trust Maxi enough to open her eyes and confirm she wasn’t still falling through the air. That was a miracle.

"By the gods, you are so cute." Maxi laughed at her reaction.

Islinda went red in the face.

"Come on," She reached for her hand and took it, "Let’s get out of here."

And Islinda did not object this time.

Meanwhile, Aldric was in his lab working when one of the birds he shared a telepathic connection with transmitted images into his head and he put down the equipment in his hand with a deep sigh,

"Of course, Maxi....."

If there was any Fae that would disobey his orders, it had to be her.

What were they up to now?
