Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 164: Her Traitorous Heart
Chapter 164: Her Traitorous Heart
It was amusing the way Islinda’s behavior took a swift turn and her once suspicious expression changed to admiration as she covered the distance between them in a twinkle of an eye, taking Maxi’s hand she had once ignored in hers, "You’re Issac’s wife?" The question slipped from her mouth before she could think about it.
"Issac’s wife?" Maxi was dumbfounded, her brows furrowing slightly, "What has that idiot been telling you?"
"Huh? You’re not?" Islinda was stunned, before she flushed with embarrassment. This is a good reason why she shouldn’t get ahead of herself.
"No, I’m not," Maxi said seriously, only for a wolfish grin to cross her features the next seconds, "But I like where this is going."
Islinda was taken aback by that statement, confused the more. Were they together or not? She needed a clear answer. And then Maxi winked at her suggestively and she realized what was going on, Issac was playing hard to get.
Tsk, Tsk, she should have known. That righteous Fae was as rigid as a tree. Of course, it would take the courage of a strong female to woo him. Islinda wondered if Faeries had monks among their ranks because Issac might as well pass off as one.
"Poor you," Islinda pitied Maxi.
She patted her hand before hugging the Fae tightly, saying, "You have suffered enough."
"Huh? I suffered enough?" Maxi was confused, peering up at her from their promixity. So when they broke apart, she told her, "I think you’re mistaken –"
"Shhh," Islinda instinctively pressed her finger on her lips, "You don’t need to say much. I understand, sister." She assured her, taking away her finger in the end and looking a bit red in the face.
Maxi blinked in surprise at the weird human, just what in the world transpired between her and Issac that made her - Islinda - pity her instead? Nonetheless, this was the first time someone ever referred to her with the title of sister for hundreds of years and it brought tears to her eyes.
The horse shifter didn’t care what the misunderstanding between her and Issac was anymore and capitalized on the feeling, pulling Islinda into a surprise hug instead.
"Thank you for understanding, sister!" She nearly knocked Islinda down with her weight.
Maxi was much taller than her, which was not surprising seeing as the Fae’s were unnaturally gorgeous. She might as well be a dwarf amongst them, Islinda exaggerated.
"Okay?" Islinda hugged her back, a bit overwhelmed and confused by the turn of events.
Islinda had to stare at Maxi’s pointed ears to confirm she was with a Fae because she was not behaving like one of their kind. The other Faeries were distant from her, even Issac, but not this one. If anything, Maxi was touchy-feely with her.
She caught her admiring her hair.
"You’re beautiful," Maxi said and Islinda’s heart skipped a beat. It wasn’t even a male complimenting her but Islinda found herself blushing so hard her cheeks became heated.
"Thank you." She answered politely and coyly, yet was screaming internally with joy.
Yes, it was not a male, but it was still so much coming from a beautiful female Fae. By the gods, if only Maxi wasn’t a female, she would have crushed on her. If only Islinda knew she could crush freely on her horse form.
As usual, warning bells went off in Islinda’s head not to trust so easily, no matter how nice Maxi appeared to be, she was still a Fae and she would be the one, the human, getting hurt in the end. Moreover, she knew literally nothing about her except she was together with Issac or something.
However, Maxi already made a good impression on her and there was something about the Fae that compelled her to trust her. Not to mention, Maxi was likable and seemed nice. Call her pathetic, but Islinda wanted a friend so badly. She was so lonely.
Maxi looked around her room and turned to her, saying, "I thought you were holding a girl’s night? I don’t see anything ready for the great night?"
"Oh, that? You heard about it?" Islinda scratched the back of her head, feeling embarrassed.
If even the Fae she met for the first time heard about it, she wondered how far the rumors traveled across the castle already. She must be a laughingstock amongst the Fae now. They would probably mock her as the ’human who tried to belong’. Islinda winced at the imagination. It was embarrassing.
Maxi must have read the situation because she shook her head in disapproval, "Tsk, tsk, those short-sighted pompous assholes," She cursed them out which came as a surprise to Islinda. The Fae behaved as if she wasn’t one of them.
However, having someone on her side was cute, so Islinda did not think about it. Probably, she was saying that to comfort her. Yes, that must be it.
Maxi said, "Cry not, Islinda,"
"I’m not crying - "
"Hush..." Maxi pressed her finger against her lips this time and Islinda froze.
The move was entirely innocent yet her stupid heart missed a beat. What was wrong with her? Islinda could not understand. Maxi was gorgeous in a very intimidating way, but there was no way she was crushing on her. They just met for the first time. Also, she was sure Issac would squeeze the life out of her if she dared to make a move on his woman. So be still, you traitorous heart! Islinda warned.
Thankfully, the Fae took her finger off her lips and she was able to breathe.
"Now listen," Maxi commanded her attention without even trying hard, "We are going to have the best girl’s night and we would sneak out -"
"We what?!" Islinda shouted, only for the Fae to cup her mouth suddenly, coming so close their bodies were pressed together and she forgot how to breathe.
She was slowly being turned gay, and Islinda panicked inwardly.
"Shhh, the walls have ears," Maxi warned her before finally letting go, yet did not give space between them, unaware of her victim’s dilemma.
"I’ll come back for you later when everyone’s asleep, understand?"
Islinda wanted to say that she was used to being made that kind of promise, but thought better of it, nodding instead.
"Good." Maxi stepped back thrilled with excitement, "Now, you have enough rest now sister because there would be none of that later. Tonight will be epic!"
Before Islinda could warn her fragile heart, Maxi pecked her on the cheek and jumped out through her window faster than her eyes could follow.
Islinda froze for a minute before her legs gave out and she collapsed to the floor. This was too much of an attack on her poor heart.
May the gods help her tonight.
