Chapter 843: Chapter 560: The Childishness of Two People (Part 2)_2

Everyone nodded, their eyes cautiously trailing the young python, alert to every movement.

Suddenly, without hesitation, it charged towards Jing Youlan and her companion. The two of them turned and ran without a second thought. The python quickly caught up, fixated on its self-invited prey.

Approaching carefully, they observed the surroundings for any other pythons. Once they were sure it was safe, they picked up the small box and returned to their original spot. Opening it, they found a single piece of paper with a brief message, "It looks like you’re heading in the right direction; not bad, keep up the good work."

Grinding their teeth, they tossed the note aside.

"What do they mean by this?" Were they playing games with them? What kind of useless hint was this?

Keep up the good work? Hadn’t they been trying hard enough? They were almost fighting with pythons...

"What this means is that our current direction is correct," Zhou Yicen said. "It’s a hint at least." It was better than nothing.

"So, we just keep going in this direction then?" Yue Qiao asked.

"That’s all we can do for now." But, "traces are left where people pass. Since their people have been here, if we pay attention, we’ll find their traces and should be able to get out quickly; however, we’d better pick up the pace from now on."

Searching for clues had taken much time, and by evening, it would become even harder to find anything.

Everyone agreed, looking in the direction where Jing Youlan and Xue Jianbing had just run off. "Let’s wait here for their return." They shouldn’t take too long.

Elsewhere.

They were running fast, but their pursuer was not far behind, keeping a tight chase.

"Are you sure we should keep running like this?" Jing Youlan suddenly asked. If they continued, they might lose contact with the others.

Glancing behind them; how could it be so fast? Didn’t it understand the concept of giving up!

Xue Jianbing sneered, "I never said we should give up." Immediately after saying this, he stopped, turned around, and the dagger appeared in his hand. As the python lunged with its mouth agape, he struck it with a swift cut.

The python, in pain, struggled to break free, instinctively wanting to attack Xue Jianbing.

The dagger pierced the python’s lower jaw, and Jing Youlan turned, with fast reflexes she drove the dagger into the python’s furiously thrashing tail and pinned it to the ground.

Xue Jianbing’s hand moved again, the sharp dagger viciously splitting open the python’s head, ending its life in an instant.

Actually, they did not want to kill, as it was an animal meant to be protected; but there was no choice, it had pursued them too closely.

Afterward, they exchanged a look, snorted coldly, and turned to leave.

It had to be said, these two quarreled a lot, but their coordination was perfectly in sync; perhaps, it was bickering that had honed their mutual understanding.

Regrettably, they still found each other disagreeable.

When the two returned to the group, everyone was waiting. Seeing that they were unharmed, everyone breathed a sigh of relief involuntarily.

"How did it go?" Jing Youlan looked at Ji Shubai.

"Not much use," Ji Shubai shook his head, "but we’re headed in the right direction." It was a small consolation. There was no point in dwelling on the rest; after all, they were the ones being assessed.

Jing Youlan nodded but said nothing more.

"What about the snake?" Yang Yuebin suddenly asked, his eyes filled with anticipation.

"Dead," Xue Jianbing coolly replied.

"And the body?" Glancing past them, he noticed no sign of the python.

"The body’s back where we’ve just been," Jing Youlan looked at Yang Yuebin with confusion. "Why do you ask?" Was he more concerned about a python than his comrade?

That was simply too sad.

Yang Yuebin sighed helplessly, "Ah... there goes our dinner." It looked like they would have to nibble on dry rations.

Everyone: ... This guy was truly straightforward.

"Should I drag it back?" They had not thought about it at the moment, but now that they did, it seemed like a waste.

Yang Yuebin indicated that he didn’t want to talk to them anymore. Had those two forgotten that they only had enough rations for two meals? And they hadn’t even had the heart to start on it yet.

With such a heavy workload, a little bit of dry rations was hardly enough to fill them up.

But, "No need." Otherwise, it would be a waste of time; in such a large forest, he didn’t believe there was nothing else to eat.

Subsequently, the group continued on their way forward.

Along the path, they moved briskly ahead.

Later, they found several more little boxes, but inside was the same message as before.

The group thought if going the right way garnered such a comment, then what if they had gone in the opposite, wrong direction? Would the message inside the box change to: It looks like you’re going the wrong way! Correct it quickly!

It would definitely have an annoying tone.

The Ying Sun team thought to themselves: you’ve... truly understood us.

At that moment, as they were drawing closer to their destination, it seemed like Mother Nature wanted to play a joke on them, and a torrential rain suddenly poured down.

Fortunately, their backpacks were waterproof.

The vast forest was covered with trees, and they hoped that the rain wouldn’t bring lightning striking any of them.

A rumble of thunder.

No sooner had the group’s thoughts settled than the heavens seemed to care for them with a thunderous response.

"Be careful, let’s keep moving." With backpacks over their heads as makeshift umbrellas, they continued pressing forward.

You shouldn’t stand under a tree during lightning, but since they were in a forest, they had to be extra cautious, hoping the rain would soon stop.

Back at the base.

Standing at the doorstep looking at the heavy rain outside, the Ying Sun team’s eyes were filled with mixed emotions, "They should be fine, shouldn’t they?"
