Chapter 795: Chapter 533: His Wife (Part 2 Update)_2

Just like that, a week quietly passed, and Jing Chen was still not back.

Mu Lin couldn’t help but worry.

That morning, just after Mu Lin had finished breakfast, she received a phone call. Seeing the name stored on her cell phone, Mu Lin felt a strange sensation.

Xu Yibai.

Why was he calling her?

She casually picked up, "Hello?" Her voice cold and indifferent.

"Mu Lin." Xu Yibai’s voice came from the other end of the line.

"What is it?" Mu Lin asked.

"Can’t I call you if there’s nothing special?" Xu Yibai uttered, the smile on his lips tinged with bitterness. Puzzled, Mu Lin furrowed her brows, unsure why he would say such a thing.

Chuckling, Xu Yibai continued, "It’s nothing, I was just wondering if you’d be willing to meet up. I heard you’re getting married soon and as a friend, I, at the very least, need to congratulate you. Not to mention, you saved my life before."

Only now did Xu Yibai realize, he never stood a chance in the first place. The idea of fairness against Jing Chen was simply nonexistent. There was no fairness in Mu Lin’s heart either.

"It might not be convenient." After some thought, Mu Lin still declined. There was no need for any entanglement between them.

Upon hearing Mu Lin’s words, the corner of Xu Yibai’s mouth tightened into a bitter curve, "Not convenient... I wanted to hand deliver your wedding gift." Looking at the gift in his hand, he sighed, "Looks like there’s no chance now." Only he knew what no longer had a chance.

Weary, Mu Lin ended the call.

At that moment, Gong Yu came up to her, an amused smile playing on her lips, "Sis, you didn’t just reject a suitor, did you?" Her curiosity was piqued.

Gong Yu observed that Mu Lin truly had many outstanding men around her. Mature and steady ones, youthful and promising ones, all extremely handsome.

No wonder her brother-in-law moved so quickly. After all, her sister was barely in her twenties!

"No," Mu Lin glanced at her, "Just a patient I once saved." The bond she had with Xu Yibai was nothing more than just that, nothing else.

Although they had met a few times in Ming City, they were not very well acquainted.

"A life debt, rewarded with marriage eh," Gong Yu joked, as was often the case in idol dramas.

Hearing this, an idea dawned upon Mu Lin as she broke into laughter, "Are you talking about your brother-in-law?" Did their current situation count as repaying a life debt with marriage?

She remembered that at that time, both of them had said the same thing, only they were joking. They never imagined that what was merely a joke back then had now become reality.

"Sis, you also saved brother-in-law?" Gong Yu asked curiously. How could her formidable brother-in-law ever need her sister’s help?

"Yes," Mu Lin nodded, "If everything hadn’t aligned just right, you might not have your brother-in-law today."

Everything happened so perfectly back then. It was their destiny.

Gong Yu bobbed her head in thought, feeling it was truly romantic.

She found it hard to believe that her brother-in-law, such as he was, would utter the phrase ’repay with marriage’.

Night fell, and it was heavy.

The moonlight gently scraped across the surface, the person on the bed breathed shallowly, in rhythm, peacefully.

At that moment, the door swung open and a tall figure stepped in, carrying a hint of chill as he approached the bed. His gaze softened with each step he took.

Mu Lin’s delicate brows creased and just as the man was about to reach her, she opened her eyes. Seeing him standing by the bedside, she softly said, "You’re back." The mumbled words carried a trace of sleepiness.

"Mmm." Only this simple word could bring tranquility to the man’s heart.

Over the past few days, even while on the frontline, he had constantly been thinking of her. Unable to be completely at ease and unable to contact her, he could finally settle down only at the sight of her.

Moving to sit up, Jing Chen quickly supported her while Mu Lin knitted her brows together, "Are you hurt?" Subconsciously reaching to turn on the light, the smell of blood on Jing Chen made her feel slightly nauseous. Why had he returned like this?

"Don’t worry, this isn’t my blood," said Jing Chen, turning on the bedside lamp, "I’ll go take a shower first." Though it was just a fleeting moment, he could still perceive the changes in Mu Lin’s face.

She was uncomfortable because of the blood. His body was drenched in too much of it. However, he was so eager to get back that he didn’t tend to himself before returning.

Mu Lin nodded and did not ask about his mission. At present, she technically wasn’t a field agent for Ying Sun undertaking missions, so she didn’t ask about it. As long as he was safe, that was all that mattered.

Cleaned and refreshed, carrying only his exclusive scent, nestled in Jing Chen’s embrace, Mu Lin slowly drifted back to sleep. The corners of her mouth turned upward, her restless heart finally tranquil at that moment.

Indeed, she couldn’t be without him now.

Cradling Mu Lin in his arms, Jing Chen slowly closed his eyes. Perhaps it was real fatigue, but before long, his breathing had become even.

If faith once sustained him, now, he had her.

His wife, Mu Lin.
