Mated at First Sight
Chapter 725 - 481

Chapter 725: 481

The Black Forest, still exuding its unique aroma of danger. Yet, through Mu Lin’s eyes, it feels unusually familiar.

The eagle cries resonate through the sky, Qiaozi already excitedly soaring within the Black Forest, probably off to find his friends; Yinzi was basically doing the same.

Qiaozi and Yinzi expressed their discontent. They remembered that Jing Chen promised to take them out last time but didn’t. So they’re expecting him to make it up to them.

However, this time they had the opportunity to return to their home, so they decided to take a stroll first.

Hand in hand, Mu Lin and Jing Chen glanced at each other, their lips curling into smiles of similar degrees. In silent agreement, legs gentle, they stepped into the Black Forest.

"There must be a Five Elements Array here." Otherwise they wouldn’t have been unable to enter after circling on the outskirts for so long during their previous visit. If Black Shark and his group hadn’t incidentally stumbled upon Qiaozi, and saved him just in time, they might have lost their lives there.

This was Jing Chen’s second visit to this place. For him, this visit held a special significance. For some reason, he previously only saw danger here, but now, apart from the familiarity, there seemed to be a sense of indescribable contentment.

Like Mu Lin, to Jing Chen, the jungle may be dangerous, but it was also a beautiful place, a place he truly cherished.

As a soldier, he often had to confront various types of jungles.

"Yes," Mu Lin nodded, "My master had set it up. The purpose was to avoid disturbances and to protect me." More accurately, to protect her as a child.

However, that was her past perspective. Now, Mu Lin had an idea why her master had set up this array.

Jing Chen nodded without further questions.

"Let’s go home first," Mu Lin turned to Jing Chen, a soft smile playing on her lips.

"Okay," Jing Chen agreed, a warm feel flooded his eyes and his lips upon hearing the word ’home’.

The last time they entered there, it was because they had saved Qiaozi. But this time, the cottage was going to serve as their home.

It truly was a beautiful term.

Upon their return to the cottage, they realized it wasn’t too dusty or cobwebbed. The reason could be located within the Black Forest, or... Mu Lin looked at the medicinal powder she had placed in the corners and other places before she left.

Fortunately, although they hadn’t been back for months, the cottage was neither dirty nor particularly damp.

Being used to leaving frequently, Mu Lin was adept at dealing with an empty house, especially one in the forest; this was something her sister, Mu Jue, had instructed her on.

After setting down some items, Mu Lin and Jing Chen began to clean the house, since they would be staying there for the night.

Luckily, thanks to Mu Lin’s previous measures, the cleanup was quite simple and the house was clean pretty quickly.

Next, they took the gifts they had brought for Mu Jue and journeyed to where she laid in peace. By the time Mu Lin and Jing Chen arrived, Qiaozi and Yinzi were already there.

Even though they were excited to be back, they hadn’t forgotten the main reason for their visit.

Mu Jue.

Looking at the tombstone in front of him, Jing Chen’s heart was filled with a strange emotion. He glanced at Mu Lin, his eyes wide with shock.

This... this was unexpected!

While standing in front of Mu Jue’s grave, Mu Lin had a smile on her face. But Jing Chen could still feel the deep sorrow emanating from her.

"Master," Looking at the tombstone, Mu Lin didn’t hesitate to kneel down, her white trousers instantly stained with mud. Jing Chen too slowly knelt down.

This was his way of showing respect and gratitude towards Mu Jue. He was thankful that Mu Jue had raised and nurtured Mu Lin so well. He was also grateful to her for introducing such a deeply-loved woman to his life.

And furthermore...

Lowering his gaze, he quietly called out, "Master," then fell silent. Looking at Mu Lin, Jing Chen knew she had a lot she wanted to say, and he didn’t want to interfere.

"Master, do you know? So many things have happened since I left the mountain." Mu Lin reached out and softly touched the tombstone, her fingers trailing over Mu Jue’s name. Her eyes held both a smile and infinite sorrow, as well as guilt. "But Master, while I’ve found clues about your murder, I still can’t find the one who truly caused your death. Am I useless?" She really is useless, isn’t she.

A tearful smile, "Although I know, Master, you might not wish me to continue the investigation. Because to you, in this world, nothing and no one is more important than me." This is something she knew from the start, wasn’t it?

Mu Lin chuckled softly,"But Master, you can’t blame me for this; some things are destined to be. From the time I descended the mountain until now, everything is reminding me that there are certain tasks I still need to fulfill. Without uncovering the truth and avenging your death, I won’t be at peace in this life. So, you can understand me, right, Master?"

"Master, I know, if you were still here, you’d likely scold me for overthinking it and worrying about my safety. Then you’d seriously tell me that nothing is more important than my safety, including yourself, right?"

"But Master, I believe you wouldn’t want me to live a life of unrest, right? You must be unwilling. Because you loved me so much.

Like a pearl, as a mother, as a father.

"However," Mu Lin gently wiped the tears off her face and laughed, looking at Mu Jue, then turning her gaze to Jing Chen, "Master, I actually came back today to bring Jing Chen to you. I wanted you to check him out and see what do you think of him."

"Additionally, I wanted to tell you, Master, that you don’t need to worry about me anymore. Because the present me is no longer alone." Hence there is really no need for worry anymore.

"Only Qiaozi and Yinzi were originally with me. But now, I have many more friends by my side, friends who would risk their lives for me without any hesitation. Master, I will certainly cherish them." Because they were all brought to her by you, weren’t they?

"And, my beloved. Master, you love him too, don’t you?" Mu Lin laughed, she cried, she questioned. Seeing Mu Lin like this brought unbearable pain to Jing Chen’s heart.
