Chapter 617: Chapter 410: Is This Strange? (First Update) _1

Mu Lin casually found a parking space and parked her car. As she got out and walked, the eye-catching military jeep and its license plate intrigued the passing policemen.

Entering the lobby, Mu Lin lifted her eyes and swept around before stopping in front of a person, "I’m here to see you all."

The man looked at Mu Lin, initially stunned by her beauty, but recovered at her words. His eyes stared at Mu Lin coldly, "Do you have an appointment?" he asked. It’s not just anyone who can have access to them.

In that moment, the man filed through multiple scenarios in his mind.

Based on Mu Lin’s appearance, considering her identity and objective — all indications were unfavorable.

She was quite attractive, but dressed in plain clothes. It was amusing, to think that she came here and directly requested a meeting.

"No," Mu Lin responded calmly; she hadn’t called ahead about her visit.

Mu Lin had never considered the possibility of being stopped; after all, she had grown accustomed to free entry in Ming City and B City.

"Sorry." Listening to Mu Lin’s words, the man bluntly refused. Coldly, he said, "We’re busy. We don’t have time to see you. If you have something to say, tell me, and I’ll pass it on."

Mu Lin raised her lips, was she being mistaken as an insane bore again?

She chuckled lightly, "I’d love to tell you, but I’m afraid you’re not qualified to hear this." Mu Lin’s principle was simple — if you looked down on her, there was no need for courtesy.

If someone didn’t offend her, she wouldn’t offend them. If someone dared to offend her, her response would depend on the situation.

If you spoke, she could as well; if you acted, she could act faster.

"In that case, the exit is over there. You can leave now." The man was equally blunt without any sign of politeness as his temper began to flare at her words.

They were working here — even if he was just a low-ranking character, he mattered. He had never seen someone who dared to speak to him like this on his own turf. Technically, he should be impressed.

He couldn’t.

He didn’t have the authority. And she did? The thought was laughable.

Unfortunately, Mu Lin merely glanced at him indifferently. Turning around, she headed inside, unwilling to waste her time here.

Suddenly, she felt that the officers at the police stations in B City and Ming City were more endearing.

A group of policemen expressed: They were only scared by her.

Seeing that Mu Lin took no notice of him, the man stepped out from his station, blocking her, "As I said, we’re busy. We don’t have time to attend to some ridiculous people." He added, "If all of you came and tried to meet directly like this, they wouldn’t have the time to deal with everyone."

His words were outright rude.

Lifting her gaze, Mu Lin looked at him steadily. A cold light flashed in her eyes, and the chill that seeped from her gaze made the man shudder involuntarily. At that moment, he felt his hair standing on end.

It was unbelievable that he was frightened by such an ordinary woman, terrified by her stare. How could this even happen?

Instantly feeling humiliated, especially with his colleagues passing by from time to time, the man’s face became hard to look at. He glared at Mu Lin warningly, "If you don’t speak and still want to barge in, I’ll get someone to throw you out." He threatened. Unfortunately, upon hearing these words, Mu Lin unexpectedly burst into laughter. As he approached her, she decisively gave him a kick. Caught off guard, the man was kicked away, and he stumbled backward.

Upon hearing the commotion, several officers inside ran out. Seeing one of their own on the ground, they immediately rushed over to help him up, "What happened?"

"She..." The man who had fallen pointed at Mu Lin, "This woman, she’s here causing trouble."

The officers instinctively looked up at Mu Lin. At first glance, they were taken aback by her beauty, but quickly regained their composure. However, they were somewhat doubtful. How could this delicate woman in front of them be causing trouble? It seemed improbable.

Just as they were about to voice their doubts, one of them looked at Mu Lin with surprise, "Miss Mu, why are you here?" This person happened to be the one who had interrogated Mu Lin the other day. He quickly walked up to her and asked, "Did you come to find...?" He wondered if there was more information about that case.

Mu Lin simply nodded.

"You know her?" A man beside asked with some curiosity.

The officer nodded, "Yes, she’s a friend." A partner in work could be considered a friend. Besides, the military and police were all part of the same family, so they could be considered colleagues too.

Hearing this, the man who had just been helped up felt his legs go weak, and he fell back down again.

A friend! That was impossible.

Looking at Mu Lin’s icy complexion and then at their own man, he could roughly figure out what had happened. It seemed that someone had made the same mistake again. Looking at Mu Lin, he quickly said, "Office, shall I take you there?" It seemed it was best to get Mu Lin out of there immediately, or who knew what could happen next.

If agitation followed, it would be impossible for him to protect this unrepentant lad.

Looking at Mu Lin, the inquiry was evident in his tone.

"Hmm." After a pause, Mu Lin nodded slightly, and then hurriedly led the way, casting a severe glare at that man before leaving.

With multiple lessons not learned, it was indeed a mistake to let him continue to hold onto this position. Hopefully, this incident could teach him a lesson.

Although he wanted to protect him, it was still not suitable to let this one rotten apple spoil the entire office.

Office.

"Knock Knock Knock." The knock on the door sounded.

"Come in." A faint voice came from inside. Upon entering, he saw Xiu Weiqi, engrossed in something, his head bent down.

"Director Xiu, Miss Mu is here." The deputy bureau spoke, and Xiu Weiqi looked up subconsciously. Upon seeing Mu Lin calmly standing behind the Deputy Bureau, he was first taken aback, then immediately stood up and greeted, "Military Doctor Mu." Looking at Mu Lin, he was all smiles.

Mu Lin nodded, entered, while the deputy politely stepped back two steps, closed the door and left.

"Please sit." Xiu Weiqi closed the files he had been reading, held it in his hands, and sat down on the couch in the office’s resting area, looking at the appropiately smiling Mu Lin and asking casually, "What brings you here all of a sudden?"

"I was passing by." Mu Lin replied indifferently.

Xiu Weiqi was taken aback for a moment, then broke into laughter and didn’t respond, feeling that Mu Lin liked to joke a lot.

Mu Lin felt helpless, observing that people these days have gotten into the habit of considering the truth as a lie and the lies, the truth.

Curving her lips, she asked straightaway, "Has there been any progress lately?" Xiu Weiqi shook his head, "Not yet." He then passed over a file from his hand, "This is the information sent back by the person I arranged to keep tabs on the Jiang Family; basically, it’s all useless."

Jiang Po, that was indeed an old fox-like character, finding evidence against him that could be beneficial to them was certainly not easy. Especially when the Jiang Family is prosperous now and it’s doubtful that they would still be in contact with the organization?

This was certainly a questionable matter.

Not commenting, Mu Lin quietly read the file, the room falling into silence.

At first glance, it truly seemed like there had been no progress.

Looking at the young woman in front of him, her downcast eyes, the corners of her mouth not smiling yet somehow still forming, exuding a cold demeanor with her gentle and frail appearance, to be completely honest, no matter how Xiu Weiqi looked, he felt that Mu Lin did not seem like a soldier at all. Rather, she seemed more like a high-ranking young lady who didn’t lift a finger in a large mansion, leading a life more suitable for her.

Sadly, it was not the case.

Although she was a military doctor, she was under Ying Sun’s command, which people completely found unbelievable.

Everyone knew how crazily demanding Commander Jing was to his military doctors. You not only had to be highly skilled in medicine, but also good at shooting, and agile. Almost as if he was trying to recruit soldiers for Ying Sun, many volunteered over the years. Regrettably, nobody could undertake that position. Even Commander Jing was unable to find a suitable candidate. But to his surprise, today, the person who finally occupied that position, turned out to be this bright and beautiful young woman seated opposite him, smiling faintly.

It was truly inconceivable, something beyond his understanding.

Putting away the files, Mu Lin lifted her gaze, her eyebrows rising slightly, "What are you looking at?" The man in front of her was constantly looking in her direction and making noises, not knowing what he was thinking about.

Upon hearing Mu Lin’s voice, Xiu Weiqi came back to his senses, smiling, "I was just wondering why a Military Doctor like you would take root in such a place like the military camp." He truly couldn’t understand the reasoning behind it.

Being a young expert at the B City Military Hospital, Mu Lin should be very skilled in medicine. Later, he specifically inquired that almost everyone in B City hailed her as the young Divine Doctor. With such reputation in B City, she could have had anything she wanted, but she had chosen the harsh and dangerous path.

For a moment, Xiu Weiqi really didn’t understand, didn’t comprehend.

"Is that really that strange?" Mu Lin casually set down the file on the coffee table in front of her, leaning back leisurely; she didn’t see it that way.

"Quite strange indeed." Xiu Weiqi didn’t hold back the truth, considering the young lady in front of him was also straightforward in her approach.

At least, that was the impression he had of her.

Mu Lin looked at Xiu Weiqi, the corner of her mouth curving gently, her gaze slowly drifting towards the far-off distance. At that moment, Xiu Weiqi noticed, the eyes which had always been perpetually cold and devoid of warmth flickered with a hint of tenderness.

It was indeed a surprising discovery.

"Actually, I was thrown in." Mu Lin chuckled, stating the matter indifferently. However, she didn’t intend to delve into the explanation, nor felt the need to. She merely looked at Xiu Weiqi, asking, "What are your plans, going forward?"
