Chapter 585: Chapter 392 Pretending to be a Snake (first update)_1

"The esteemed Poison Doctor graces our Jiang Family with his presence, such a profound honor indeed." The smile plastered on his face, yet when reflected in Mu Lin’s eyes, not a trace of sincerity could be discerned.

It’s her first time seeing someone feign sincerity to such an extent.

Of course, whether it’s genuine or not doesn’t mean much to Mu Lin, after all, isn’t she also playing the same game?

The only thing Mu Lin could sense from Jiang Po is probably just this; if he wishes to carry on with the charade, then she’ll go along.

"Mr. Jiang is too courteous." Mu Lin’s mouth curled into a languid smile, nonchalant yet aloof. Yet it seemed like Jiang Po didn’t notice it and continued to greet Mu Lin enthusiastically, completely lowering his own stance.

Pity he hadn’t perhaps realized that in front of Mu Lin, many people were never able to maintain their pretenses. His deliberate actions made Mu Lin wonder who he was performing for, or did she actually appear that gullible to him?

Idlely taking her seat, she leaned leisurely against the back of the sofa, her indifferent gaze fixed on the deceptive old face in front of her. Perhaps ’old face’ is a bit harsh, Jiang Po isn’t exactly young, but he has maintained his looks quite well. He must be around fifty, yet looks no more than forty. Presumably, many women must have thrown themselves at him, quite the lady killer.

A languid curve formed on the corner of Mu Lin’s lips.

"Mr. Jiang’s attention to Mu Lin is flattering. I’ve just arrived in C Province last night. I didn’t expect to receive Mr. Jiang’s invitation, it’s quite the honor." Mu Lin fashioned her words elegantly, of course, she was convinced that he could pick up the implication in her words.

"Ha ha ha ha..." A hearty laughter erupted from Jiang Po, "The Poison Doctor’s visit to our C Province is a major event. I am sure everyone from the various families in our C Province are delighted at your arrival. I just happened to beat them to it by sending an invitation first."

"Lucky, very lucky." His words carried an air of self-mockery, "I should thank the Poison Doctor for accepting my invitation." Addressing her as Poison Doctor at every opportunity, Mu Lin couldn’t help but smile at his flattery.

The insinuation she had subtly made earlier was simply tossed right back at her.

Hum, was he trying to tell her that in C Province, his family wasn’t the only one after her?

Then perhaps she should thank him for his kind reminder.

"What is the main reason Mr. Jiang invited me, given that we have never met before?" Her voice was chilly, streaks of puzzlement weaved within. Was his haste to get close to her a tad bit too much?

"Or does Mr. Jiang have a patient at home who needs my assistance?"

The detached and languid tone of her voice somehow gave Jiang Po a sense of wickedly gloating over someone else’s misfortune.

Mu Lin argued that she didn’t have that kind of idle time.

Jiang Po wrinkled his forehead slightly, changed his addressing, "Doctor Mu, you jest. I sent the invitation yesterday simply because I admire the Poison Doctor’s reputation, and I wanted to see what the infamous Poison Doctor looks like." This was a question that had intrigued everyone.

"Now that I see you, you are so outstanding, remarkably different, the true epitome of the medical field. By far loftier than any young talent around us. It’s just surprising that the Poison Doctor in legend turned out to be a young lady around my daughter’s age. I found it hard to believe at first." It surely was unbelievable.

Seems like the main topic is coming up.

Mu Lin sat upright, her elegantly crossed legs drawn back and slightly bent, curiously looking at Jiang Po, "Mr. Jiang’s daughter must be quite an exceptional young lady."

Mu Lin blatantly disagreed.

"Exceptional?" Speaking of Jiang Tiantian, Jiang Po coldly snorted, his smile gradually disappearing, "She does nothing but cause trouble all day, never letting me have peace of mind, always running around." Upon saying this, he looked at Mu Lin, a glint of amusement in his eyes, "If Tiantian had a tenth of Miss Mu’s excellence, I would be able to sleep easy." Actually, if that were the case, he wouldn’t have to send her away to Ming City, and all the following dramatic events wouldn’t have taken place.
