Chapter 483: 335_1

In the taxi, Xiu Fan sitting in the front seat couldn’t help but glance back at Mu Lin from time to time. His whole demeanor was uneasy, the expression on his face apprehensive.

"If you have anything to ask me, go ahead." Mu Lin’s cold voice carried a hint of amusement. Spotting Xiu Fan alive with shock in the passenger seat, Mu Lin’s comment left him feeling somewhat sheepish. Xiu Fan sheepishly scratched his head, but he looked a little more relaxed.

"Dr. Mu, your medical skill... is truly remarkable." Xiu Fan, who had been watching everything with wide eyes, was in complete awe. Just a few moments was all it took for Mu Lin to stop the bleeding and save a life. Before Mu Lin could say anything, Xiu Fan continued. "Even though I seem older than you, right now I am but a mere intern who only knows some superficial medical techniques." There was a sense of self-doubt about all this.

Compared with Mu Lin, Xiu Fan felt completely inadequate, seeing no area where he could possibly equal Mu Lin.

After hearing Xiu Fan’s words, Mu Lin chuckled, "Actually, you don’t need to compare yourself with me." This statement was by no means condescending; Mu Lin looked at him and asked, "When did you first come into contact with Chinese medicine?" Mu Lin noticed that aside from some senior Chinese medical practitioners, there aren’t many young ones.

"Since high school. I read numerous medical books such as Shennong’s Materia Medica, Huangdi’s Internal Classic, Compendium of Materia Medica, Treatise on Cold Damage Disorders and other medical books; then in university, I chose Chinese Medicine as my major." Xiu Fan answered earnestly, "Actually, in the beginning, my family did not let me study it." Or rather, they vehemently forbade me; they were very adamant about their decision.

I was even scolded for reading medical books, saying they were useless and a distraction to my studies.

Especially during my high school years when I should’ve been focusing on studying for the college entrance exams.

Upon hearing Xiu Fan’s response, Mu Lin’s eyes flickered in surprise, "Oh? Why?" Do people really not like Chinese medicine so much? For Mu Lin, she really does enjoy it.

"They think it’s useless." They believe western medicine is superior to Chinese medicine. "And they were afraid that I wouldn’t be able to find a good job after graduating." I also doubted this; because at first, I faced a lot of rejections. However, luckily, I persevered. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet Mu Lin and Dr. Wang.

Xiu Fan felt truly fortunate to have encountered Mu Lin during the interview at the Poison Doctor’s clinic.

"I see. So that’s how it was." Mu Lin laughed, this was the first time she had heard such a thing. "How did you manage to persist?" Mu Lin looked at him with interest.

"I had several arguments with my family. They couldn’t out-argue me, so they finally agreed." Recalling that period, he felt somewhat embarrassed.

Mu Lin raised an eyebrow; looking at Xiu Fan’s personality, it was hard to picture him being the type to argue with others. Ever since the interview, Mu Lin held a rather positive impression of Xiu Fan - steady, modest, and respectful.

After a pause, Mu Lin suddenly asked, "Having read all those books about Chinese medicine, have you treated any patients?" Essentially, she was asking about his practical experience.

Xiu Fan shook his head, "I once helped family members with minor ailments like colds. It did help a little, but nowadays people tend to dislike Chinese medicine because it tastes horrible." Plus, some things in Chinese medicine are indeed very disgusting.

"That’s certainly true," Mu Lin agreed, "Even I don’t like drinking Chinese medicine. "As he said, it was truly hard to swallow, especially the one her master made, she absolutely couldn’t agree. There was no one in this world who could make Chinese medicine more unbearable to drink than her master.

Just thinking about it still made her feel nauseous.

Xiu Fan turned to look at Mu Lin as if he had discovered a new world, "Dr. Mu, you don’t like drinking Chinese medicine either?" That seemed highly unlikely. He never saw that coming.

Mu Lin gave a subtle smile, "No one ever said a Chinese Medicine practitioner has to enjoy consuming Chinese medicine." Her dislike was perfectly normal.

Xiu Fan chuckled as Mu Lin continued their conversation, "Since childhood, my master kept me steeped in a medical atmosphere, whether it’s through drinking or bathing in medicine; you guys usually learn normal words and phrases first, but the first word, the first phrase, even the first sentence I ever learned were all related to Chinese medicine."
