Chapter 427: Chapter 301: Belonging (Second Update)_1

However, upon hearing the elder Chinese doctor’s words, a young man by his side suddenly disagreed with him, "Why do I feel that your story is so far-fetched? You seem to be trying to grab attention."

Mu Lin didn’t respond, she tilted slightly, her indifferent eyes simply lingering on the teenage boy who’d challenged his views.

The young man continued, "Since you mention legends, let me share a common one with you." Looking at the elder Chinese doctor, a hint of disdain flashed in the young man’s eyes, "The Sea-Dongqing you’re talking about is known to feast on human flesh in the legends. Sir, how are you still alive then?" He laughed sarcastically after his statement and many others joined his laughter, although a few remained expressionless.

They were newcomers, and they understood the respect due to an elder colleague, if he made a mistake they could correct him, but laughing was not an option; the elder man hadn’t said anything outrageous after all.

The elder Chinese doctor seemed to be indifferent to their laughter. He simply looked at the young man and replied neutrally, "Is that so, seems like I’m quite fortunate." After that, he no longer paid him any attention and turned to Mu Lin, "Do you believe my words?"

Mu Lin nodded and responded casually, "Why not? All living creatures possess intelligence. This is something I’ve never doubted." Animals often were more affectionate than most humans. She could not believe that the man Uncle Qiaozi took away that time was the same person standing in front of her.

Pondering his words, she vaguely remembered the incident; he nearly got himself killed by a pack of wolves that time.

Upon hearing Mu Lin’s agreement, the old Chinese doctor looked at her with a hint of gratitude. He hadn’t expected her to support his standpoint. As for the young man, seeing Mu Lin siding with the elder doctor, he chose not to say anything further.

Regretfully though, they had to respect Mu Lin, their chief examiner. They could not afford to offend her. He certainly wasn’t pleased that a woman of her young age, apparently yet to finish university, had the audacity to act as their main examiner. It felt simply unfair.

Mu Lin did not respond to the silent criticisms. She looked at the elder Chinese doctor, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "I remember the poison doctor of legends was not a good person. Why do you seek to learn from her?" This seemed like a death wish to some people.

The elder Chinese doctor shook his head, "I don’t see it that way. Although the Poison Doctor of legends was famously eccentric, never truly cared about any inevitability of life, and was even known to kill without shedding blood; yet the idea of ’doctors’ benevolence’ prevails. I trust such a medical expert could never be totally evil."

"And how true the legends really could be? Only those who spread these rumors must actually know."

This was a very sophisticated understanding. Mu Lin, however, lightly responded with a grin. "What if I tell you that the Poison Doctor was really not a good person." Because she, in fact, wasn’t.

"Seeing is believing. Unless I see her, I’d choose to trust my intuition." It wasn’t only intuition actually. The veteran Chinese doctor even now believed that the spirited Sea-Dongqing belongs to the Poison Doctor.

Even if animals possess intelligence, they won’t perform certain behaviors without being instructed, so.

Unfortunately, that one time, the other party didn’t wish to see him, this might remain the biggest regret in his life.

Looking at the old doctor, Mu Lin silently raised her eyebrows. This was the first time a stranger had defended her so ardently, an experience that felt a bit strange.

Afterward, Mu Lin didn’t say much. She simply distributed a piece of paper to each candidate, letting them write down their conclusions. There were six people left in the end, two veteran Chinese doctors and four newcomers, almost all recent university graduates.

The old Chinese doctor was included. Needless to say, Mu Lin did not keep him just because he had defended her, but because he truly had abilities.

The two elderly Chinese doctors were named Wang Guozhen and Zhao Wen, while the four recent graduates were Dai Jin, Miao Wei, Yang Zhou, and Shen Fan.

"Starting from tomorrow, the Poison Doctor’s Hall will be officially open for business." Mu Lin announced simply without any grandeur, startling Hong Mingsheng.

"Dr. Mu." Hong Mingsheng came to Mu Lin’s side, looking puzzled at her: "Don’t we need any grand opening ceremony or anything?" Opening so casually, they might not attract many customers.

"There is no need." Mu Lin stated mildly: "I really don’t wish for the business here to thrive." Good business would be too much of a trouble.

"This..." Hong Mingsheng was completely baffled; not just Hong Mingsheng, even those who had just been recruited showed their confusion on their faces.

Opening a clinic was ultimately a business, and naturally, they would hope for a large number of patients. If there were no patients, how could they afford their salaries?

What a redundant worry, indeed.

However, Mu Lin simply left it at, "Let it be."

But, could the matter really be that simple?

Alright, let’s keep it simple for now.

In the end, Mu Lin only left them with a sentence: she was delegating full authority to them. Though she would only occasionally show up and would not be there every day, they could call her or go to Hongda to find her if anything happened.

This attitude did start to make them worry a bit about their future.

Well, they’ll try to work here for a while and see how it goes.

As for the old Chinese Medicine Doctor named Wang Guozhen, he stood there thoughtfully, watching Mu Lin’s receding figure.

Mu Lin had just stated that in this world, no one understood the Poison Doctor better than she did; what did this statement entail? What was her relationship with the Poison Doctor; since she was familiar with him, why did she say the Poison Doctor was not a good person?

Unfortunately, even after a long time of pondering, he still couldn’t find the answer; however, Wang Guozhen knew that as long as he stayed here, he would surely find the answer he wanted, and meet the person he wished to meet.

It was the elder’s intuition.

This way, he wouldn’t have any regrets in his life.

...

Time flies, Mu Lin’s Poison Doctor Pavilion was open for business, it was better that the details of the business are left out. Then, the time for the charity banquet hosted by the Ya Family arrived.

This banquet was held at Hongda, it’s unclear whether the Ya Family did it on purpose or originally planned to have it here. Whatever the case, it’s a fortunate coincidence that made it so that Mu Lin didn’t even need to step out the door, she just needs to appear at the appointed time.

And so,...

The day of earnings came and it fell on a Sunday. Early in the morning, Ya Yan left the Ya Family house and headed straight to Mu Lin’s residence.

The door was opened by Qiaozi.

"Qiaozi, where’s Mu Lin?" Ya Yan was thrilled to see Qiaozi in front of her. She totally did not feel any difference between Qiaozi opening the door and Mu Lin doing it.

Qiaozi tilted his head, pointed his wings upstairs, giving her an exasperated look.

Ever since Jing Chen arrived, Uncle Qiaozi discovered that their little Mu Lin had learned to dawdle in bed - she can’t be allowed to continue this lazy habit every day.

Ya Yan entered the house and saw Ya Yan, Silver quickly hopped into her arms.

The two had missed each other after not seeing each other for just a few days.

Seeing Silver, Ya Yan was incredibly happy. She bounded upstairs with Silver in her arms.

The time was exactly 8:00 AM on the dot, not a minute more, not a minute less.

At this moment, Mu Lin was fast asleep in Jing Chen’s arms; a place she felt very safe and comfortable in.

Looking down at Mu Lin sleeping soundly against him, Jing Chen felt a soft and tender sensation in his heart, like fluffy cotton – capable of dipping in slightly under pressure, and just as capable to bounce back.

Such a feeling was immensely satisfying.. there couldn’t be a more satisfying time.

So he just gazed at the beautiful, peaceful face in front of him, his strong hand wrapped around Mu Lin’s slender waist. His gaze was deep, deeper than ever.

Unfortunately, Mu Lin countered him with a full-faced scowl, trying to rise by propping her hands on his shoulders. This guy really never let her out of the door.

Propping herself up slightly, Mu Lin kept her hands on his handsome face. A gentle smile formed on her face, "This face of yours has attracted not just me, but countless others too. Regrettably, in the end, it can only belong to me, only to me."
