Chapter 352: Chapter 256: Evidence vs Balance (Third Update)_1
"Walking into the police station, Hong Boyuan realized that the current atmosphere was completely different from when he first entered.
For some reason, he felt that the way these police officers looked at Mu Lin... was filled with endless fear. Their jovial demeanor felt horribly fake, but it wasn’t the kind that came from contempt.
However, it was way better than their previous attitude towards him. They didn’t even want to speak more than necessary, their discomfort evident and their patience wearing thin.
Ordinarily, these people might have shown him, or rather, shown some respect to the Hong Family he represented, but their average-person faces held no sway this time.
\"Doc Mu.\" This title was unanimously adopted by the police station for Mu Lin. It was derived from what they heard on the surveillance footage. As for calling her sister-in-law, they figured they lacked the right to use such an address. Of course, if it was Mu Lin’s preference, they’d definitely not refuse.
I mean... they wouldn’t dare reject that.
\"Where is your Officer Ren?\" Mu Lin asked, nodding her head.
Yes, she felt that the atmosphere here felt somewhat different from her previous visit.
Her indifferent gaze swept over the few police officers in front of her, noting their hasty evasion.
Did they think... she was going to eat them?
This was the message she received from their expressions.
\"He’s in his office.\" retorted one officer, seemingly quite troubled. The incidents of last night and recent happenings seemed to have exhausted him.
\"Then, would you please guide me there?\" Mu Lin commanded, \"I’d like to consult him on a matter.\" She paused before adding,"It’s about that little incident last night.\"
At her words, the officers couldn’t help emitting a bitter laugh; calling last night’s event a small incident, it really made one wonder what would count as a big deal in the eyes of Doc Mu.
Would it be about life and death? Probably not.
Though they referred to her as such, they definitely hadn’t forgotten that the assassin from ’the Organization’ referred to Mu Lin as the Poison Doctor! Despite not understanding the name, they had a rough idea of how powerful this top-level assassin and mercenary was.
Certainly more than what they had seen on TV. Just how strong was Mu Lin really? She looked so much younger than them.
Caught in the gloating gaze of the other officers, the unlucky cop who had answered Mu Lin’s question had no choice but to lead her to Officer Ren Laifeng’s office, and then... without any hesitation, ran off.
\"Why are they so afraid of you?" Hong Boyuan couldn’t resist asking. He found their reactions exceptionally strange; their fear of her seemed excessive.
Mu Lin shrugged, \"I have no idea.\" She truly didn’t know. After all, she never paid attention to these things.
"Oh." Hong Boyuan responded, continuing to guess. However, he could not come up with any reason; unless one has personally witnessed that side of Mu Lin, how could one possibly guess? He wondered if every time he met Mu Lin, his eyes would still sparkle with surprise.
He guessed... probably not.
She knocked on the door casually and entered after hearing a response.
The previously troubled Ren Laifeng looked up and was visibly delighted to see Mu Lin; a stark contrast to the reactions of the officers outside. \"Sister-in-law, you’re here." He caught a glimpse of Hong Boyuan out of the corner of his eye, frowned slightly in thought, and then as if realizing something, he asked, \"Aren’t you the young master from the Hong Family?" He couldn’t quite remember the specific name.
\"Officer Ren, nice to meet you, I am Hong Boyuan. I’m surprised you still remember me.\" Hong Boyuan greeted him, slightly pleasantly surprised. However, he dared not be too pompous in this situation. After all, when this Ren acted high-handedly, he wouldn’t spare anyone’s dignity. Even his superiors supposedly had no control over him.
Back then, his father and grandfather had taken him along to gain some business experience, and that was the only time he saw Ren.
He had also heard that if anyone accidentally provoked Ren, then they would have to rely on their own luck because there would be no sympathy for them. Better swallow your complaints.
Ren Laifeng gave Hong Boyuan a cursory glance and nodded his head with a carefree smile.
