Chapter 314: Chapter 234: Do Not Climb the Bed at Midnight (Second Update)_1
"Xiao Feng."
"So it’s him." He murmured to himself with a thoughtful expression at the corner of his mouth.
"Do you know him?" Jing Chen’s eyebrows furrowed, clearly in a state of displeasure.
"Yes." Mu Lin nodded, "I heard this name when Qiaozi was complaining before. He seems to be a friend of Hong Boyuan." It seems that he’s been worrying about this friend all along. Now, she can understand why Hong Boyuan is so worried about his Future.
"Associating yourself with these kinds of people means you certainly aren’t any better off." Jing Chen coldly huffed, showing his clear contempt for such people.
However, Mu Lin merely offered a faint smile, "That’s not necessarily true." At least she was already sensing the difference, wasn’t she?
His hand around her waist tightened, "Mu Lin, you seem to particularly like flirting with me lately." His tone was rather bland.
"Do I?" Replied Jing Chen, raising an eyebrow, a slight degree of amusement spreading across his mouth, "I don’t think so."
After all, he didn’t think this counted as flirting. Pausing a moment, Jing Chen suddenly asked again: "Linlin, when did you start using the word ’flirting’?"
"I’ve always known it." Just that she didn’t fully comprehend it at first.
Mu Lin rebuked, "If you remind me again, I’ll make sure you become mute." Remembering it made her feel somewhat embarrassed, as though she’d unwittingly fallen into his trap.
Jing Chen chuckled, "Linlin, you wouldn’t dare." He was confident that if Mu Lin ever intended to strike at him, he would have been rendered mute long ago, rather than making it this far.
Glaring at Jing Chen, Mu Lin huffed coldly, "Don’t forget if the time comes." Just in case he dares to trick her again.
Listening to the banter between the couple, a certain person on the side suffered in silent disbelief.
My God, what the hell did he just hear? That’s not suitable for children! Damn, he needed to find a wife too.
Quickly fetching the money, which totalled fifty thousand, Xiao Feng handed it all to Mu Lin. Looking at her, he displayed a hint of regret in his eyes, "I’m sorry for the mess today." He hardly ever got involved in these matters, but never imagined it would escalate to this point.
Mu Lin merely shook her head, finally saying, "No one can interfere with the path you choose. It all depends on your decision."
After finishing her words, Mu Lin turned around and walked towards the female student.
Watching Mu Lin’s departing figure, a complex look flashed through Xiao Feng’s eyes. He felt as though this young girl seemed to know about him. But, how was that possible? He had just met her for the first time. He gave a self-deprecating smirk before being escorted into a nearby police car.
In response to the words that Mu Lin had deliberately spoken to Xiao Feng, Ren Laifeng’s brows slightly raised, his gaze thoughtful.
After bidding Jing Chen farewell, Ren Laifeng did not continue to linger. After all, things were different now. He didn’t want to be a third wheel and endure their sweet moments. It would be too painful for a single man like him.
Oh, his unmarried fiancée!
Mu Lin walked up to the girl and handed her the money while speaking in an indifferent tone, "This is to compensate for your phone, as well as for your troubles."
Seeing such a thick stack of cash, the girl unconsciously shook her head, "I can’t accept it; my phone only cost two thousand when I bought it, this... is too much." Furthermore, "You must have been more shocked than I was, you should keep it." Her mother had always reminded her not to be too greedy otherwise there will be retribution in the future.
Ignoring the girl’s refusal, Mu Lin shoved the money into her hand, her elegant eyebrows raised slightly, "Which eye of yours saw me get frightened?." Did she look startled?
Hearing this, the girl was left speechless.
Seems like... she wasn’t; Mu Lin’s impressive skills kept her heart pounding even now. She had never seen such a capable person before, especially a girl like herself, who seemed delicate and in need of protection.
For the first time, she realised the saying ’don’t judge a book by its cover’ held true.
Shoving the money into the girl’s hands, Mu Lin looked at her, her eyes indifferent, "Next time you want to help someone, remember to measure your own strength." This was a word of advice; if you didn’t have the ability, in the end, you would only be burdening yourself.
Having said that, she turned and walked off in a different direction. Jing Chen quickly followed.
Watching the two depart, the girl was left in deep thought. If such a thing were to happen again, she still wouldn’t be able to resist helping. That was just her nature. And... according to her, she had always been lucky.
Now she had suddenly acquired several tens of thousands of dollars, more than her mother’s annual income.
She thought she would be without a phone for a while; this was definitely a blessing in disguise.
Amidst the envious and jealous looks from the onlookers, the girl put the money in her bag. She then picked up her broken phone from the ground, told her boyfriend to leave, and the two left the scene hand in hand.
And just like that, the scene came to an end.
...
Returning to the hotel, under the incredulously envious glances from the receptionist, Mu Lin and Jing Chen leisurely walked past.
In the eyes of the front desk receptionist, Jing Chen was the kind of man who was wealthy, handsome, and passionately in love. A super ’diamond bachelor’ who not only had money but also power.
They saw that day, if this was ancient times, he would absolutely be in a position just below one person but above ten thousand. The dream lover of countless young girls; even in this era, the situation was probably not much different.
Dr. Mu, you’re really lucky.
Mu Lin stated that she didn’t feel lucky at all.
Upon returning to her room, she found Uncle Qiaozi had already eaten. It was probably brought in by one of Xu Yibai’s staff members; as soon as Mu Lin entered, Uncle Qiaozi, short little legs kicking, rushed toward her, then looked at Jing Chen with disdain. After the debacle of the hair-pulling incident, Uncle Qiaozi was constantly disgruntled at the sight of Jing Chen, and yet Jing Chen continued to flit about in front of it every day.
Shouldn’t he be very busy?
Mu Lin gently patted Qiaozi’s head as she entered the room, and Jing Chen closed the door behind them.
Mu Lin turned to look at Jing Chen, and said, "There are two rooms in here. You can sleep in the other one." She paused for a moment,
She certainly hadn’t forgotten about those evenings before they came here,
Trusting him would be nothing short of foolish.
Mu Lin: She really wanted to kill him, what should she do?
Closing her eyes, Mu Lin didn’t bother with him any longer, and with little to no consideration, she quickly fell asleep.
First it was ’sister-in-law’. When Mu Lin had gradually gotten used to that term, ’fiancée’ began to emerge. And by the time she had fully accepted that and made peace with it within her heart, Jing Chen would be completely victorious.
After all, there’s a saying that suggests habit becomes truth.
Everyone: That saying should be habit becomes nature.
...
The next day, when Mu Lin woke up, Jing Chen was already gone. Without any excess emotion, she got up, exited the room, looked down at Qiaozi in the attic, and asked, "Where is he?"
Qiaozi mumbled lowly.
He had left early.
Hmm, it’s good that he left.
"Oh." Mu Lin nodded, not saying anything further. She went back to her room and noticed there seemed to be an extra note on her nightstand, a note with precisely ten words.
I’ll miss you, my fiancée.
Looking at the note, the corners of Mu Lin’s mouth were pulled into a smile, before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
Rushing back like that, looks like he also has a task.
After breakfast, Mu Lin first went to the Hong residence. After administering acupuncture, she then directly reported to Mo Yinfan’s office.
Entering the hall, the air was permeated with a sense of seriousness and rigor. However, she was not a fan of it.
Walking up to the front desk, Mu Lin straightforwardly demanded, "I’m looking for Mo Yinfan."
The reception staff paused and then asked, "Do you have an appointment?" Since Mu Lin dared to call out their names directly, they handled it more carefully, afraid of offending someone they shouldn’t offend.
Mu Lin arched an eyebrow, "Under normal circumstances, yes." Jing Chen should’ve informed them accordingly, "You can call and check." She hoped he remembered to inform their side before he left.
"That’s against policy." However, the receptionist pondered for a moment before politely refusing; they felt that Mu Lin probably did not have an appointment and was likely another admirer.
Mu Lin raised her eyebrows, this was the first time she was being left out in the cold like this. Unexpectedly, the novelty of it made her reluctant to leave right away.
"My name is Mu Lin, call and check, remember, you only have three minutes. If no one comes down to take me up within three minutes..." The smile on the corner of Mu Lin’s mouth was unusually deep, "I will leave without hesitation, and by then, even if Mo Yinfan personally comes to plead with me, I will not set foot in this place again."
Despite it being a task, she had already come, right? She didn’t want to be rejected a second time; if it came to that, Jing Chen could simply assign someone else to the task.
Seeing Mu Lin, the front desk receptionist was somewhat hesitant. After conferring with another person, they finally picked up the phone, "Please wait, we’ll consult immediately."
Watching Mu Lin being quickly ushered in, the two receptionists looked at each other, unconsciously letting out a sigh of relief.
It’s just as well they made the call.
