Chapter 292: Chapter 223: Yan Zilei’s Desire to Cry but No Tears (Third Update)_1
Looking down at Yinzi, Ya Yan tenderly advised, "Yinzi, this is my elder brother and his friend, you mustn’t arbitrarily bite people next time." Such tenderness, even Yan Zilei had not seen before.
With its big, glassy eyes fixed on Ya Yan, Yinzi obediently tilted its little head. The sight of its well-behaved demeanor left Yan Zilei and Xu Yibai exchanging puzzled looks.
They must have been seeing things.
Were they sure this little creature was a dangerous species like a snake?
The trio entered the house, and Yan Zilei looked at Mu Lin, the girl before him was more beautiful than her photos depicted. Her picturesque features, graced with an air of uniqueness, and the slight upward curve of her lips, still gave off a certain aloofness that held people at arm’s length.
Mu Lin’s beauty was special. Special enough that despite her aloofness, it still made people helplessly take notice of her, and perhaps even fall in love with her.
Of course, this didn’t include him.
Yan Zilei held his stance that apart from Ya Yan, the girl he had protected from childhood, no one else could enter his heart.
Yan Zilei could see that when Mu Lin’s gaze rested upon Ya Yan, there was some warmth within that gaze, at least, it was more heartfelt than when directed towards them.
It seems that all his worries were indeed unwarranted.
"Just now, Yinzi was somewhat overprotective and bit you. I apologize for that," said Mu Lin in a detached tone. Although she verbally expressed an apology, there wasn’t an actual sense of regret in her eyes, simply a calm narration.
Yan Zilei replied with a nonchalant smile, "It’s okay, after all, it was protecting my sister. I should actually be thanking it." This gratitude seemed somewhat ironic, considering he was the one who had been bitten. However, Yan Zilei hadn’t expected that the snake should belong to Mu Lin, only someone as eccentric and unique as her would keep such a dangerous pet; the Eastern Blue Dragon, a snake, these were not safe species.
However, he never imagined that Mu Lin’s pet would be so close to his Yanyan; it seemed that if the little black snake named Yinzi stayed beside Yanyan in the future, he wouldn’t be able to get close to her.
A tinge of depression and helplessness bubbled up within him.
Could he say that he didn’t like the little black snake at all?
Regrettably, it was no longer up to him; Yan Zilei didn’t yet know that for a long period in the future, due to Ya Yan’s preference, Mu Lin would leave Yinzi under Ya Yan’s care to protect her. It was then that he would realize what it meant to be at the brink of tears.
...
With an unconscious sigh, Yan Zilei took a step forward and nodded at Mu Lin, his expression filled with gratitude, "Previously, thank you for saving Yanyan."
Looking at the man before her, Mu Lin just casually lifted the corner of her mouth and murmured indifferently, "It was nothing, no need for thanks; if the person involved was someone I dislike, I wouldn’t have lifted a finger either." The message behind Mu Lin’s words was clear - saving Ya Yan was her business, it had nothing to do with him, and he didn’t need to thank her.
Listening to Mu Lin’s aloof words, a faint smile flickered in Yan Zilei’s eyes; it seemed the rumours were true, Divine Doctor Mu was indeed a loner with a temper; his expressions of gratitude were openly disliked.
However, one had to admit, Divine Doctor Mu genuinely seemed to take a liking to his Yanyan.
Strangely enough, Yan Zilei began to feel a newfound respect for this girl in his heart, who had managed to tame the unyielding Divine Doctor Mu. For Yan Zilei, this was absolutely a good thing.
At least in the future, if something happened to Yanyan’s health, Mu Lin would definitely not ignore it.
In truth, Mu Lin herself didn’t know why she seemed to be partial towards Ya Yan; perhaps because Ya Yan was the exact opposite of her.
Ya Yan was kindhearted, innocent, yet stubborn in her own way, while Mu Lin could only describe herself with one word - dark.
She was fully aware of this.
Mu Lin’s gaze shifted from Yan Zilei’s face to Xu Yibai, who had been silent since they entered.
"You seem to be doing well." Mu Lin’s gaze moved from Xu Yibai’s legs up to his faintly smiling face, as she commented nonchalantly.
