Chapter 291: Chapter 222: The Unhesitant Silver (Second Update)_2
Mu Lin mentioned that she hadn’t realized when Silver had appeared.
"Really?" Carefully eyeing Silver not far from her, doubt crept into her voice. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Mu Lin, but ... it was a snake, after all, slithering and looking poisonous. If it bit her, she’d be finished.
However, despite her fear, there was some curiosity.
There was no other choice, humans were definitely the most complex creatures in the world, because their minds were the most difficult to understand.
"If you don’t believe it, you can try touching its head to see if it will bite you," Mu Lin’s voice tempted, sounding much like the Big Bad Wolf tempting the little white rabbit.
Slowly stretching out her index finger, inching closer to Silver, one eye closed, one half-open, honestly, it was a bit brave. But because Mu Lin had said this, she didn’t hesitate to test it.
...
"It really won’t bite me!" The next moment, excited voices rang out. Ya Yan looked at Mu Lin, her face full of surprise.
Mu Lin laughed, indeed, appearances can be deceiving. This little rabbit wasn’t afraid of Silver anymore just after a single touch.
She wondered if she should say that Silver had discerning eyes.
Ya Yan stretched out her hand towards Silver, signaling it could coil back up her wrist. Silver took no time in climbing up onto her, the joy in Ya Yan’s eyes was even greater than when she saw Qiaozi.
Mu Lin’s eyes flickered with laughter. It seemed that Silver had won over this young girl’s heart in an instant.
As for Qiaozi, of course, it wished Silver liked Ya Yan more, better yet if Silver would follow her from now on, to avoid it always trying to steal Mu Lin away.
"Mu Lin." She glanced at Silver, and then at Qiaozi, who had no interested in Silver, a bit perplexed, "I thought hawks and snakes are natural enemies, why don’t Qiaozi and Silver have any sort of feeling like this?" It surprised her that a small snake like Silver hadn’t been swallowed by Qiaozi.
She asked while still shielding Silver.
Qiaozi looked at Silver with contempt; if it weren’t for Mu Lin’s intervention, it would’ve eaten that stinky snake long ago. Silver glared back at Qiaozi.
Casually glancing at their interactions, Mu Lin smiled, "That’s because you haven’t seen them when they start fighting." Mu Lin stated that Qiaozi and Silver fighting was a complete waste of her antidote.
Ya Yan nodded thoughtfully and didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she kept playing with Silver, her eyes full of joy.
...
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Ya Yan stood up, "I’ll get the door." She ran towards the door, but when she saw the person through the peephole, confusion flashed in her eyes and she turned to look at Mu Lin.
Why did her older brother know she was here? She hadn’t called to say she was coming.
Seeing Ya Yan’s expression, Mu Lin had a good idea who the person outside was.
After all, even though Ya Yan hadn’t noticed that person in the dark, it didn’t mean she hadn’t.
"Go ahead and open the door." Mu Lin suggested.
Ya Yan nodded, opened the door, and saw the handsome face with a slight smile, "Big Brother, why are you here?" This was unexpected.
"Why, don’t you welcome your big brother?" He looked at Ya Yan with a playful smile, making her feel uneasy.
"No, not at all." Ya Yan chuckled awkwardly.
Yan Zilei sighed softly, extended a hand, and lightly flicked Ya Yan on the forehead, "I’m sure you’ll think twice about running off again next time." His tone was indulgent; unfortunately just after he finished his sentence, something suddenly bit his hand, and the bite marks were clearly visible near his thumb.
Were these... snake bite marks?
He instinctually tried to suck out the venom, but Mu Lin stopped him before he could, "I suggest you don’t, unless you want to die faster." Her voice was cold and calm.
Getting bitten alone, the venom would spread slowly, it wasn’t fatal; but if venomous blood was swallowed, even a little bit, then it was lethal; it would act immediately, killing on the spot.
This was precisely the peculiar nature of Silver’s venom.
Immediately, all three of them looked at Mu Lin.
Mu Lin’s mouth curled up slightly, "Don’t worry, no one will die for now." After saying this, Mu Lin looked to Qiaozi, "Qiaozi, bring over those jellybeans you’ve been eating recently."
Qiaozi grumbled and flew up to the attic. It soon flew down carrying a small porcelain bottle and landed next to Yan Zilei and the others.
"Just eat one." Mu Lin instructed.
Upon hearing Mu Lin’s words, Yan Zilei instinctively took the bottle and ate one of the jellybeans without a second thought, and then gave back the bottle to Qiaozi.
It appeared he was unlucky today, to have been bitten by a snake in such a place. It was indeed a... unique experience.
But where had this snake come from? It seemed like it had some grudge against him since it only bit him as soon as he entered, while Xu Yibai had no issues at all.
Yan Zilei felt this was somewhat unfair.
As he was thinking this, he subconsciously looked around and finally spotted the small black snake, now very obediently coiling around Ya Yan’s wrist. He was shocked.
"Yanyan!"
Ya Yan apologetically looked at Yan Zilei, "Big Brother, I’m really sorry, I didn’t watch Silver carefully and let it bite you." Because Silver hadn’t bitten her before and Mu Lin had said that Silver wouldn’t bite arbitrarily, she didn’t think that as soon as her big brother came in, he would be bitten by Silver.
Ya Yan admitted, she just hadn’t reacted at all.
