Chapter 257: Chapter 203: Mu Lin: hug me! (One update)_2
It was just a casual remark, but the smile on Mu Lin’s lips deepened.
Working with a smart person has its perks; there was no need for excess words. It was their own private understanding.
Jing Chen knew what Mu Lin was implying: his appearance didn’t fit with this small inn and could potentially arouse suspicion. So, carrying her inside like this would save them a lot of problems.
After all, Mu Lin knew that he would not back down.
...
Holding Mu Lin, Jing Chen started to walk towards the direction of the inn.
Listening to the steady heartbeat ringing in his ears, Mu Lin felt a wave of fatigue wash over her.
Holding the woman in his arms, Jing Chen looked at her tenderly. If he could, he really wanted to hold her like this forever without letting go.
Upon entering the lobby, Jing Chen’s icy gaze quickly scanned the surroundings. He had to admit that under normal circumstances, he simply wouldn’t set foot in such a place. His gaze finally rested on a spot not far ahead, and he strode over.
At the front desk, a woman, presumably the boss, was engrossed in whatever she was looking at, showing deep concentration.
"Get me a room." Suddenly, this low and cool voice startled the woman. Looking up, she was mesmerized by the handsome and determined face before her. His deep and cold eyes were almost capable of drawing people in.
Another exceptional man.
"If you continue staring, I won’t mind gouging out your eyeballs." At that moment, the scent of blood clinging onto Jing Chen seemed to come to the forefront. The woman trembled and instantly came back to her senses.
The man in front of her was an exceptional specimen, but he was terrifying. She could tell that he was not the kind of man that would appreciate the fairer sex. Her blood seemed to freeze in her veins, and she could feel the hairs on her body standing on their ends at his glare.
However, the moment she had this thought and returned to her senses, she noticed the woman being held carefully in the man’s arms and his occasional, tender gazes towards her.
The phrase "Tough man with a soft heart" fit him perfectly.
It seemed he was not indifferent to women, rather he cherished just the one: the woman he was holding.
The boss noted, for her part, that she preferred younger men. The aura of the man in front of her was simply too overpowering, making him unbearable to ordinary people.
The boss regained her composure, took a deep breath and uttered, "I need your ID." There was no getting around it; an ID was a basic requirement. Moreover, it will help her to know the identity of this man.
He handed over his ID with ease.
Of course, it wasn’t his real ID, but a fake one they’d prepared for their mission. It was recorded in the police station, so it seemed real wherever it was checked, complete with fabricated data.
In other words, it was a real ID, because the fake one was for his cover identity.
Jing Chen admitted he hadn’t used this in a while.
After the registration was complete and the payment was made, the woman handed Jing Chen the key card. Only after Jing Chen’s figure disappeared from view did she breathe out a sigh of relief and slumped back into her original position.
Finally, he left.
This man’s presence was simply too overwhelming. He wasn’t an ordinary person. The reason he’d chosen this small inn was probably to allow the woman in his arms to rest properly.
Despite the stark differences between Jing Chen and the young man she’d encountered during the day, they shared one common trait: loyalty.
Especially someone like Jing Chen, a man who either doesn’t love at all or, once he falls in love, devotes himself completely.
Truth be told, the boss was overwhelmed with jealousy towards Yue Qiao and Mu Lin, whom she couldn’t get a good look at. Both were able to attract such a man.
Why was life so unfair? After all, they were all women, yet she only ever attracted jerks who were unfaithful, useless and unrepentant.
She had been hurt time and time again, and that was the reason why she had become the woman she was today.
...
Once they entered the room, Jing Chen looked around, a slight smile appeared on his face. It seems his previous intimidation had worked. Truth be told, Jing Chen didn’t like being watched by anyone, especially when he noticed the disgusting look in her eyes earlier. He had to resist the urge to gouge her eyes out.
After setting Mu Lin on the bed, he walked into the bathroom. He needed to check every corner of the room.
Walking out of the bathroom, Jing Chen returned to Mu Lin. Seeing her peaceful sleeping face brought contentment to his eyes. Seems like it was a good decision to head out today after all.
He leaned down and planted a kiss on her lips. But the next moment, an unconscious but ferocious counterattack came. Jing Chen evaded and caught the attacking hand, laughing softly, "It’s me."
Mu Lin jolted awake and saw Jing Chen sitting by the bed, her hand still in his grip. Suddenly she realized that she’d fallen asleep without intending to as she counted his heartbeat.
This embarrassing incident was something Mu Lin vowed never to tell anyone.
Mu Lin sat up slightly and looked around. Her complexion was back to normal now. Looking at Jing Chen, she remarked, "It seems like this room isn’t being monitored."
Jing Chen nodded, "I’ve checked everything, there isn’t."
"That’s good. It would be easier for us to move around." Mu Lin admitted, while she enjoyed their adventures, she didn’t like being watched. At this point, Mu Lin had completely forgotten how Jing Chen had taken liberties with her again earlier.
Later, when Yue Qiao and Zhou Yicen returned, they were met with an unnaturally enthusiastic gaze from the boss, especially Zhou Yicen. It felt like there was something more to her gaze compared to during the day.
