Chapter 230: Chapter 187 - Do You Qualify? (Third update)

"Looks like we got prey wandering in."

"Where?" Ye Xiwen unwittingly looked around.

Mu Lin said, "Don’t get all worked up, or you might startle the snake out of the grass." He paused, then added, "It’s over there in the farthest corner from us." It was somewhat near the kitchen.

Mu Lin’s eyebrows knitted slightly together.

Hearing Mu Lin’s words, Ye Xiwen nodded, and everyone else suppressed their curiosity as they continued to leisurely eat and chat about mundane things. However, they subtly observed the person who upon entering appeared unlike someone who came to dine.

"Mu Lin, looks like it’s a mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. This snake is also being watched by the hunter." Back to Mu Lin, Jing Youlan’s lips curled up slightly, a cryptic tone accompanying his words.

"Hmm," Mu Lin replied flatly, "In that case, we should just sit on the sidelines and see how things unfold."

Everyone nodded.

Just then, the welcome bell sounded. Mu Lin turned his head and saw Fang Zi’s wife had returned.

Mu Lin’s eyes widened slightly.

She looked much better than before; it seems that her good stuff was not wasted.

As Fang Zi’s wife entered, her keen eyes found Mu Lin immediately. She was overjoyed, preparing to stride towards him.

But before she could even call out ’sister-in-law,’ she was cut short by someone. A man wearing a chef’s hat rushed to her, "Boss, have you taken out the money yet?" He sounded anxious.

"Yes, the money is ready, but you still haven’t told me what you need two months’ wages for?" Seeing him this desperate, and knowing he was usually a hard worker, she had not refused.

"Boss, please don’t inquire, it is urgent." Unfortunately, the man did not want to reveal anything to her; eventually, she gave in to the chef and handed him the money. He swiftly left, and Fang’s wife happily walked towards Mu Lin.

Mu Lin thought, great, here she comes.

Indeed.

"Sister-in-law!" Fang Zi’s wife approached Mu Lin, her eyes full of excitement, "Why are you here?"

Mu Lin smiled. "I came with my friends... to eat." He laughed awkwardly... could she stop calling him sister-in-law already?

Fang Zi’s wife nodded, "I see. I’ll add a few more home-cooked dishes for you later." She glanced at Mu Lin’s table; all their dishes were almost finished, this couldn’t do.

"No need, we’re done eating." Mu Lin shook his head.

Sigh... ever since he came down the mountain, why did everyone he encountered seem to be increasingly enthusiastic? He could not understand it.

In reality, Mu Lin himself did not realize that during the two-and-a-half months of training in the new recruit camp, despite thinking he hadn’t changed whatsoever, he had actually changed little by little. He had become a bit more sympathetic when it came to certain things. The old Mu Lin might have ignored it, but the present Mu Lin would occasionally consider others’ feelings.

Maybe this was a good thing, and it should be what Mu Jue had wanted to see all along.

Mu Jue had always been a bit worried about Mu Lin’s personality, but now, he presumably would not worry anymore.

...

"But..." Fang Zi’s wife hesitated when she looked at Mu Lin.

Mu Lin had helped them so much, and now they had a rare chance to repay by hosting him for a meal. They could not let this opportunity slip away.

The couple’s enthusiasm for Mu Lin made the others at the table want to laugh, seeing Mu Lin’s awkwardness at dealing with the situation.

Ye Xiwen, holding back laughter, spoke up, "Madam, we’ve actually finished eating already. The food was so good we ate till we’re stuffed. If you serve us more, we might have to waddle out of here with our bellies full, even Mu Lin."

"You’re so thin, how could that be?" Fang Zi’s wife laughed, no longer insisting on it.

After all, she couldn’t force Mu Lin to eat, that could end badly.

Feeling a little embarrassed now, she scratched her head. "In that case, sister-in-law, I’m going back to the kitchen for a while, but I’ll be back out in a bit."

Mu Lin nodded, "Go ahead."

As she arrived at the kitchen door, she saw the chef standing in front of a customer. She immediately walked over, "What are you doing here? Taking orders isn’t your job, go back to the kitchen. How are my husband and the others supposed to cope alone in there?" Didn’t she see that more customers were gradually coming in!
