Chapter 229: Chapter 186: Rejecting this Dog Food (Second Update) _2

"If you dare, stop talking big and just do it!"

"Alright, bring it on. I ain’t scared!" He said, already rolling up his sleeves.

Yet, at the next moment, he glanced and saw several figures walking away, instantly... without any hesitation, he left Xue Jianbing behind and chased after them. Jianbing quickly followed.

"Hey, don’t leave me behind!" Just like that, his old habits kicked in once they were outside again.

Everyone concluded: they rejected this type of dog food once again.

...

The bakeshop was still bustling, although fewer customers were present compared to the last weekend when Mu Lin and Jing Chen visited.

The doorbell rang.

"Welcome." The same voice greeted and upon seeing Mu Lin, his eyes sparkled with the same joy as when he saw Jing Chen last time.

The sister-in-law is here!

"Sister-in-law!" Fang Zi quickly approached Mu Lin, excited, "What brings you here?" He thought she was currently training at the recruit camp and that the session would be ongoing at this point.

Mu Lin smiled, "I came to eat." Seeing him walking over, she asked, "Have your legs improved?" She couldn’t remember whether it was better than last time or not.

Upon hearing Mu Lin’s concern, there was only gratitude in Fang Zi’s eyes, "It’s much better now. It doesn’t hurt in damp weather anymore, and I don’t limp as much as I used to. Thanks to you and boss, I never thought I could recover so much."

A simple thank you is hardly commensurate with their gratitude.

And about the gift Mu Lin gave to his wife last time, Fang Zi noted that his wife seemed to have really become prettier; despite dealing with kitchen fumes often, her skin kept improving and becoming fairer.

Hearing his words, Mu Lin shook her head lightly, "If you want to thank someone, thank your boss. I just did his bidding that day, that’s why I was brought here." However, recalling this caused a hint of annoyance to wash over Mu Lin.

"Yes." Fang Zi nodded, then looked at the people behind Mu Lin, asking, "Sister-in-law, are you all here together?" Especially Jing Youlan behind her, he recognized him since he was his boss’s little brother, currently trainee in the recruit camp.

However, Mu Lin slightly shook her head, "I want a table for three." Meaning, she didn’t have anything to do with the others.

Fang Zi was taken aback but immediately understood, "Sure, follow me, please." Then he had other waiters guide Jing Youlan and his group to another table, conveniently placed near them.

They were sitting back to back which made conversing easily.

Although Fang Zi left the special forces, he used to be part of it and had a hunch why Mu Lin’s group could still be outside at this hour... Probably they were on a mission! He just didn’t know when the recruit camp also started deploying missions.

It seemed like he really had been away for too long; melancholy hit him.

...

After Fang Zi left.

"Sister-in-law!" Jing Youlan teased from behind Mu Lin, "Mu Lin, can I call you sister-in-law from now on too?" He knew the other man well, he used to be a member of Ying Sun and was specially taken care of by Jing Chen, his big brother, after being wounded and discharged. So, the "boss" he referred to must be Jing Chen himself.

Jing Youlan was absolutely certain of that.

He never expected that Jing Chen managed to win over Mu Lin already. Already calling her "sister-in-law" without her denying it?

This surprised him.

Today, they really gave Jing Youlan’s group a good scare.

"You’re overthinking it." Unfortunately, Mu Lin responded dispassionately, "It was only out of courtesy for Jing Chen that I didn’t deny it then. Moreover, being called sister-in-law doesn’t mean anything."

"Oh... it means nothing~" Yang Yuebin’s prolonged his syllables, resulting in an oddly... eccentric sentence. A moment later, "Sister-in-law!" He also started calling her that followed by a few others, uttering the words ’sister-in-law’ under their breaths.

Ye Xiwen and the others laughed secretly on the side.

Indeed, they also felt like calling her that. Unfortunately, Jing Chen isn’t their big brother.

Hearing the repeated "sister-in-law" references, Mu Lin frowned significantly.

If she had her way, she’d love to silence this bunch for good! Having treated them kindly, perhaps they might have forgotten her real character.

Everyone agreed: They... would keep their mouths shut!

Sister-in-law!

...

Since Mu Lin’s group were regulars, Fang Zi promptly arranged for their food to be prepared first. Very quickly, delicious food was served; the boss cooked it himself, hitting the spot.

"Sister-in-law, you guys take your time. I’ll go back to work. If you need anything else, just let me know, don’t be shy." The honest and simple Fang Zi said.

"Okay." Mu Lin nodded, "You can go ahead. There’s no need for you to look after us, in particular." They were fine eating casually.

"Okay." Fang Zi agreed, smiled at Mu Lin, and went about his business.

Mu Lin didn’t ask where Fang Zi’s wife was; regardless, even if she hadn’t asked, they would’ve found out what was about to happen.

This couple was genuinely innocent and simple; they should change things a little bit.
