Master of Kaidan
Chapter 66: Misunderstanding

Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Misunderstanding

"I have to say, the trash collected on Garbage Day is somewhat useful, even if we don’t consider the True Object and the illusory items that might have been found. Just the bulk trash alone has made the houses outside the landfill look much better."

At the same time, Feng Xue felt that he was beginning to understand how those oddly shaped houses in the landfill areas came to be.

Large containers, steel beams, and foam, and even a Strong man who had managed to pull out half an airplane, which was slightly modified to become more than a dozen dormitories.

At this moment, although the scene outside the landfill was still somewhat different from the landfill areas where Feng Xue had stayed before, it strangely resembled the slums around the garbage mountains in Southeast Asia that Feng Xue had seen online in his previous life.

They were both made of trash, soil, and gravel, with a haphazard and unplanned architectural style. However, compared to those slums, it was ultimately much cleaner here as people in Infinite City didn’t use toilets.

Due to the previous Garbage Day’s attraction, the nearby Omens had mostly been dealt with, and Feng Xue was experiencing the most peaceful days since his transmigration.

He didn’t need to worry about being attacked by Omens, nor did he need to consider disappearing due to insufficient Identity. He also didn’t need to protect that high school girl whose head was a bit loose.

But he was also aware that these days wouldn’t last forever. No need to look too far, just a few days after Garbage Day, the atmosphere around had started to change somewhat.

Initially, when there was only a group of Scavengers, everyone was doing their own thing, with no communication at all. But now, with the addition of the first batch of transmigrators, the vicinity of the landfill hadn’t become much busier. Instead, the transmigrators, clustering around the people providing them with food, had instilled a feeling of being excluded among the others.

Fortunately, Feng Xue was more of a homebody and had no strong need for socializing, appearing even more detached than the well-accustomed Scavengers.

However, the same behavior had different outcomes when conducted by different people, or rather, from the moment these Scavengers began gathering around the landfill, it signified that a Ritual had officially started.

The houses constructed served as altars for the Ritual, and the first Garbage Day was the first round of sorting.

The initial separation of the Strong and the weak was made during the attacks by the Omens, with only the few Strong individuals qualifying to contend for the position of Manager and the weaker ones giving up the struggle for that position to instead focus on reaping benefits.

This routine had gradually stabilized over the years as Infinite City developed.

Whether it was a newly formed landfill or a landfill site destroyed for some reason, there would always be such opportunists coming, but even the Strongest among them didn’t really expect to become a Manager. Instead, they hoped to exploit the Manager’s privileges to gain as much benefit as possible before the big shots from the residential areas arrived.

And the large organizations in the residential areas were happy to see this happen because by foregoing the benefits of the first few Garbage Days, they could let a group of "hyenas" build up a well-established landfill—a very worthwhile trade.

As for resistance...

Lone wolves could never overcome the organized, and with the various facilities in the residential district that the outsiders could never hope to match, trying to take control of a landfill from the big organizations in the residential district was as difficult as an illiterate person who had never gone to school trying to compete for the title of knowledge competition champion against a group of university graduates who had received a full education.

Of course, there were those who succeeded through self-education, as long as one became a real Kaidan, then the big organizations in the residential area wouldn’t go to war over a landfill with you.

But for these wild Scavengers, becoming a Kaidan was just too hard!

However, as a newcomer, Feng Xue was clearly unaware of these unspoken conventional rules. He was just blindly imitating the people around him, yet he didn’t realize that he had already showed many special traits.

Like the fact that he didn’t bring building materials from the landfill, or that despite his strength, he didn’t rally ordinary transmigrators; also, his luxurious array of illusory items— even his trash boxes were illusory.

All this considered, Feng Xue had unwittingly been labeled by these Scavengers. Although there was no overt targeting, the few Strongest competitors, who should have been rivals, quietly got in touch. From Feng Xue’s perspective, a few organizations that had initially come together for warmth suddenly merged.

Lacking critical information, Feng Xue didn’t see the problem; he thought there had been a clash among several candidates in his absence and that a Strongest contender had emerged. He just kept to himself, concocting illusory items in his house. Most of these, of course, turned into comical, meaningless items and the Omen Seeds.

Just before the next Garbage Day arrived, three Scavengers who had reached a profit-sharing agreement appeared at his door.

"What’s going on?" Feng Xue’s assassin-instilled Sharpness made him sense trouble immediately. Before the three had a chance to speak, he pulled out a Feminization Filter from his bag.

Instantly, the three rather Powerful Scavengers and the transmigrators around them all turned into beautiful girls fitting XP standards, while Feng Xue’s field of Fog was ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.

"Don’t be nervous, we just want to talk," the green-haired pretty girl standing at the front immediately spoke, her graceful figure moving as she talked, her blue gem-like eyes captivating.

However, Feng Xue knew the true nature of the Feminization Filter. He had downed plenty of the beauties in his sight these days. Facing such communication partners, he had no intention of letting his guard down.

He moved closer to an empty cardboard box while holding the Holy Mother, keeping himself ready to react at any moment, then finally spoke:

"What do you want to talk about?"

"About the issue with this landfill." The green-haired pretty girl stood at the door without any extra movements, "We hope you could give us more time."

"You?" Feng Xue finally noticed that the other party was using polite language, somewhat surprised. After a brief silence, he said,

"You seem to have misunderstood something."

"There’s no need to hide it anymore, we have seen it. You must be an upper-class resident from the residential area, right?" Suddenly a shorter girl with golden short hair, looking fierce yet adorable, spoke up, confusing Feng Xue even more—

"Me? Residential area? Upper-class resident? What are you talking about?"
