Master of Kaidan -
Chapter 65 Mysterious Move
Chapter 65: Chapter 65 Mysterious Move
Although there were a multitude of apocalyptic signs, compared to the nearly thousand Scavengers, the number was actually not that great. At least in Feng Xue’s field of vision, there were only five or six. But if one took into account that these creatures could evolve by consuming True Objects or the corpses of Kaidan, then the quantity became quite terrifying.
Almost as soon as they entered her vision, Feng Xue saw two Scavengers grab their weapons and charge towards the nearest apocalyptic sign, apparently not intending to give them any time to evolve.
Feng Xue also quickly understood the trick to it and immediately drew her Holy Mother disassembly knife and killed her way in.
Most of these apocalyptic signs that had lived in the vicinity had evolved into more wilderness-adapted beast forms. So much so that if it weren’t for the elements that emerged from the Mosaic Sphere above their heads, Feng Xue would have had trouble associating these creatures, which looked like a mix between dogs and panthers, with zombies.
But without a doubt, considering elements like "Death" and "Corpse," these creatures were an apocalyptic sign transformed from human corpses.
Although there was no moonlight at the moment, when Feng Xue pulled out a filter from her pocket, the entire world changed.
The originally ferocious monsters turned into a four-limbed, naked, gorgeous young girl in an instant. Despite looking aggressive, they lost all sense of oppression.
And the Holy Mother disassembly knife was also coated with the first layer of buff in that instant, the silver chill glistening on the blade.
With the experience of wildly hacking through a crowd of beauties before, Feng Xue didn’t feel any pity this time around because the opponent looked like it could poke at her conscience. The moment it swiftly pounced towards her, a thick white mist spurted from her body, the blurred vision avoiding the obstruction of a swath of white obstacles before her eyes and then she quickly chopped off that pretty head with a single slice of her blade.
"I always feel using this thing too much will turn me into a psychopath,"
Feng Xue thought to herself with disdain. Glancing aside, Golden Finger immediately activated, completely disintegrating the corpse of the Kaidan. The mist could only maintain the field for around thirty seconds, but making the most of the obscured vision to complete the Refining was also very important.
The apocalyptic sign’s corpse turned to ash, and Feng Xue’s Golden Finger gained another Identity with personal markings from the Chienta Tower.
Somewhat numb to such figures, she didn’t hesitate and immediately turned towards the next apocalyptic sign.
Although they looked like animals, these creatures were still corpse-type Kaidan and didn’t have the sharp sense of smell of animals. With both her Assassin’s suit and Breath Concealment drastically lowering her presence, only Feng Xue had the initiative to strike in the thick fog.
Thirty seconds flew by quickly, and when the mist gradually dispersed, Feng Xue’s figure in her white robe reappeared, but the apocalyptic signs that were around her before had vanished without a trace.
The Scavengers who were fighting nearby soon noticed the scene here. Although their main attention was still on the apocalyptic signs near them, they couldn’t help but become wary of Feng Xue.
The most important thing in this line of work was to see the situation clearly. Once they realized Feng Xue’s strength was at least a notch higher than theirs, they immediately thought of avoiding her as an enemy in the future.
Anyway, their goal was just to make a haul, they hadn’t planned to compete for the Manager’s position, naturally, they didn’t care if there was a Strong transmigrator—only as long as he didn’t come over and start a killing spree.
The initial batch of apocalyptic signs that arrived was a bit weaker than Feng Xue had expected. But this wasn’t surprising; the more Powerful the apocalyptic sign, the greater its need for "Identity," which was why that giant had displayed a "migration" behavior before.
Even if it only had instinct, it could sense that this land could not sustain it.
"I wonder how far the garbage vortex without a dome can spread at its farthest..." Feng Xue contemplated how many more attacks like this there would be, but soon discarded the superfluous thought and once again began her Scavenger journey.
...
The times of happiness always seem to fly by especially fast, and the day quickly slipped by. The transmigrators at the dumpsite had mostly awakened, slowly coming to understand their current situation through the simple explanations by the more experienced ones.
Feng Xue had also taken a page from her seniors and explained the basic knowledge of "Breath Concealment" and trash days to a few newbies, but perhaps due to the small number of people or the incompleteness of her teachings, she did not receive a "Newbie Guide" label.
However, judging from the status of those veterans, not getting a label seemed to be the norm, but this did not discourage them. Instead, they invited the new arrivals to move into the houses they had built and requested their help with construction work—
which was making houses out of mud and pebbles.
If it had been just that, Feng Xue would have merely been curious about the significance of these houses, but when she noticed some scavengers actually bringing out True Objects they had collected earlier to feed the transmigrators, she was overcome with disbelief.
She had seen more than a dozen people fighting over a piece of True Object excrement until only one survived, and witnessed how Chen Xiyao’s simple act of relieving herself outdoors had sparked a horrific battle.
And now, was there actually someone willing to share the Knowledge of True Objects to feed strangers?
Could it be that Infinite City really had good people?
Yet when she saw the other scavengers not giving anything and instead looking understandingly at those who did share the True Objects, she felt something wasn’t right. After all, she also noticed that the scavengers who had been closer to her were looking at her with puzzled eyes, as if... it was inconceivable that she had not given any True Objects to feed the transmigrators!
"Could it be... those who brought out True Objects, are they among the strong? Or is it not that they don’t want to feed, but that only the strong are qualified to bestow favors at this time? But what’s the point of such benevolence?" Feng Xue’s mind raced, and then an idea emerged—
Manager.
Yes, probably only the label of Manager would make it worthwhile for the scavengers to give away True Objects, which were akin to their lives, to the transmigrators.
So, does a Manager need not only to be powerful but also beloved? No, beloved might not be the right word.
Feng Xue shook her head, preferring to use "contribution" over the vague term of being beloved to speculate about this process.
After all, to Infinite City, transmigrators are simply "nothings"; feeding them or watching them die makes no difference at all. Even if all were to die, a new batch would arrive in ten days.
But once these "nothings" take on certain tasks, they are no longer mere nothings but useful "parts" that can create value for Infinite City.
If all this was true, then should she also try to earn some contribution?
Feng Xue looked at the transmigrators still lining up and shook her head again.
Although she was somewhat interested in the position of Manager, she did not fully understand the whole process. Following in others’ footsteps, she would always be one step behind, and might even break some taboos. Rather than invest, it would be better to watch and learn and then find a new dumpsite to try later—
The presence of so many experienced scavengers meant that such things were definitely not uncommon.
