Master of Kaidan -
Chapter 444: Piercing Through the Fog
Chapter 444: Chapter 444: Piercing Through the Fog
"Ugh..."
As a wave of headache passed, Feng Xue slowly opened his eyes and looked at the unchanged room before him. He frowned slightly, and a faint feeling of discord immediately surged in his heart.
Supporting himself up from the bed, he glanced around the room. Everything seemed so natural—it was just an ordinary hotel single room. Whether it was the LCD TV on the wall or the air conditioning vent above, everything appeared as it should.
Yet, there was an inexplicable feeling telling him that none of this was right.
"What exactly is wrong?" Just as Feng Xue furrowed his brows and began pondering where this sense of discord originated, a pale ghost hand suddenly floated over with a cup of warm water, offering it with a gesture as if to say, "Drink some water upon waking up."
"Tsk, tsk, do you think you can kill me again? Wait! Damn it!!!!"
Feng Xue’s expression suddenly froze as he casually took the cup, then transformed into sheer astonishment. He glanced at the ghost hand with a look filled with expectation and casually placed the cup on the table. The appearance of the ghost hand seemed to shatter the fog over his head, clarifying his thoughts immediately.
Feng Xue wasted no words and immediately attempted to activate his power.
However...
"It failed, or rather, I couldn’t feel it at all. No, it’s not just the power—there was no descent rule, and I couldn’t even feel the consumption of ’Identity.’ Compared to Kaidan, I was more like an ordinary person now."
Feng Xue clenched his fist tightly and swung it hard toward the front, a crisp explosion sound causing him to nod slightly.
"Although I lacked inner strength, I could still use any martial arts based on the human body’s structure. Interesting, was it indeed dream-like power?"
Enduring a dull headache, Feng Xue walked to the window. At that moment, he suddenly felt that everything before, including Kaidan and Infinite City, was all a dream, and he, now, was experiencing reality.
But the presence of the ghost hand, however, seemed like a beacon, affirming the truth of it all.
In fact, he hadn’t brought anything into this world, including the clothes he wore, which were not a disguise hidden by Hermit Power’s Masked Rider Armor but a set of clothing similar to his disguise.
As for why the ghost hand could follow...
Perhaps it’s because it wanted to kill him.
"Comedic phantasms were indeed the strongest, but they still conformed to the basic principles of phantasms."
Feng Xue marveled at the ghost hand’s omnipotence while secretly feeling glad that the ghost hand was only omnipotent during the "process of killing the streamer" (using k language, it was "when this card performs xx"), otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to seal it up at all.
However, now, the existence of the ghost hand helped him perfectly avoid the biggest trap in this world.
"Self-awareness?"
Feng Xue took a deep breath to calm his mindset. This dream world was even more troublesome than Death God Thirteen’s abilities because its memory block was bidirectional—not only could he not recall what happened in the dream from reality, but even upon entering the dream, he couldn’t remember what happened in previous dreams.
If it weren’t for the ghost hand’s reminder this time, he would even forget that he was a Kaidan.
So, the question arose—what exactly were the rules of this Kaidan?
Previously, why did he awaken from the dream?
Did he return to a previous save point after dying in this dream?
Or did each death in the dream open a new account?
Or was it simply like an MMORPG where dying did not affect the world’s operation, just resurrecting from the resurrection point upon re-entering?
Feng Xue wasn’t very clear on the details of all this, but he understood one thing: every time he exited the dream abnormally, it became more dangerous.
This danger could simply be mere spiritual pollution, or perhaps some form of replacement or, simply put, a triggered Kaidan power.
Actually, his current most troubling issue was that he didn’t know how to exit at all.
Though he had always speculated that he died in the dream and thus woke up, there was no substantial evidence to support this notion. In other words, if prior actions were merely the Kaidan’s "deceptive act," unable to lay hands on directly, aiming to escape via suicide would only play into the enemy’s hands.
"Tsk, tsk, this is quite troublesome."
Feng Xue stood up and pushed open the hotel room’s door. The bright light immediately gave him a sense of discomfort, because...
"Why is this hotel using LED lights?"
Even though LED lights were indeed the trend in lighting development, reality should still be in the era of incandescent bulbs, right?
"Is it the difference in the dream?"
Feng Xue muttered in his heart, then heightened his alertness. He, now, was just a human with a slightly greater knowledge reserve, lacking the immense power he once had. Every action needed to be as cautious as possible.
Thinking so, Feng Xue made his way down the hotel’s stairs to the streets. The night scene, two levels brighter than before, rendered him speechless.
The community, which once conveyed a quintessential last-century style, transformed into a modern nightscape awash with neon; towering residential buildings reaching fifty or sixty meters were commonplace.
"Seems more troublesome than I imagined."
Even if it were a Kaidan, it couldn’t create something out of nothing. Everything must have its cause and effect, even in a dream. To this world’s reality from the late twentieth-century technological level, mobile phones were still quite clunky in design, but seeing the smart devices in these people’s hands, it was clear this was no illusion.
Either the Kaidan had constructed this dream according to Feng Xue’s memories, or the technology in this dream was real.
Of course, the worse possibility was that the Kaidan of this world also possessed inter-world capabilities.
"Considering the last world’s gaming company, the latter seems more plausible."
Feng Xue wandered through the streets and alleys, searching for an ATM that looked like it wouldn’t pose too many issues if he beat it up, while also investigating this world’s anomalies.
Currently, as a human, he couldn’t even detect the power of ’Identity’ and Kaidan Fire...
Wait a minute!
Feng Xue suddenly shivered and then turned to look at the ghost hand on his shoulder. The lines of text emerging in his vision abruptly turned his previously grim expression into one of manic excitement.
"My Golden Finger still works?!"
In that instant, all the prior unease vanished; because, upon realizing this, Feng Xue knew that in this world, the Kaidan was no longer an overwhelmingly crushing force against him!
Feng Xue excitedly grabbed the ghost hand clinging to his shoulder and smothered it in a couple of kisses. Under the onlookers’ gaze, who regarded him as a lunatic, he began to sprint wildly.
His reticle traversed his field of view like in an FPS game, attempting to find clues. Though he couldn’t capture the information about True Objects, as long as traces of Kaidan truly existed in this world, his Golden Finger could certainly find its tail!
