Chapter 338: Chapter 338: There’s a Gap Even Among the Capable
"To become the Strong, it’s an underlying pursuit etched in the DNA. Every man once harbored the ambition to become the Strongest in the world, only forced to abandon it due to various pressures. Yet even if they abandon it, it doesn’t change their deep-seated pursuit of ’Strength!’"
...
Watching George Augustus unfurl his Light Wings on the interview program, Feng Xue felt awkward enough to want to curl his toes. Though that’s what he said, the effect of this interview was incredibly impressive, not only boosting online approval ratings to a height of seven percent but also garnering dozens of endorsement advertisements for the Augustus identity.
Meanwhile, the Constantin Company’s ’Shield of George’ promotions were swiftly revised. Now, in any upscale arms dealership, one could see the strong aura of Augustus, along with the slogan that’s begun spreading widely across gyms and boxing clubs—
"Purity, too low."
"Indeed, the same line sounds different coming from different people. This would seem childish if said by an ordinary person, or even an athlete, but when uttered by someone who has undergone a physical overhaul like a Mecha, it becomes intensely impactful. Hmm, definitely usable for next time."
Feng Xue added a few more notes to his "Kaidan Creation Manual" and began to redirect his attention to his current Identity.
Playing multiple personas inevitably led to getting too deep into character, but fortunately, Cultivation of Inner Strength had given him some Construction in Mental State. With brief meditation, his Spirit once again purified.
After reestablishing his spiritual Construction, Feng Xue carefully adjusted his features in the mirror and changed his clothes from the inside out to ensure there were no overlaps in Temperament or symbols before leaving the apartment, following the navigation to No Man’s Land 42.
"Good evening, everyone. After nearly two weeks of Ghost Collision Game, we should have enough proof that there are no ghosts in the world, so today we return to the original intention..."
[Damn it, it’s your livestream that made me believe in ghosts!]
[Exactly, two weeks ago, I was still a materialist.]
[Streamer, what kind of livestream is this? Do you know how much trouble you’re causing?]
...
Watching the usual lively comments, the Bert streamer, known across the internet for having the hardest mouth, cracked a smile and then passed through the passage symbolizing the "doorway," entering No Man’s Land.
Long-time viewers in the livestream had long become accustomed to the streamer’s style. During this period, besides "learning" the little tips the streamer shared for Ghost Collisions, they watched in awe as he avoided death in unexpected ways.
Sometimes they even felt a bit sorry for that White Ghost Hand. What an unfortunate encounter, thinking it could handle this Hard Fate guy.
Just as everyone was waiting for the "intro" to pass, suddenly a comment flashed across the screen—
[Streamer, run! Above your head!]
Above his head? What’s above his head?
While most viewers were perplexed and switched to full-view mode, there was a sharp snap. A flowerpot fell right behind the streamer.
The Bert streamer looked at the shattered pot on the ground, then lifted his head to look up. After a brief silence, he suddenly burst out swearing,
"Where did you come from, you son of a [bleep]?! [Expletive]! [Expletive]!"
A string of mother-laden curses echoed at the entrance of No Man’s Land. Many passersby couldn’t help but turn their heads. But in a place like No Man’s Land, where lawlessness was the norm, at the sound of the Bert streamer’s unsavory words, a group of burly, vicious-looking men poured out from the building with falling objects, surrounding Bert—
"You little [bleep], cursing here? Don’t you know whose turf this is?"
"Just fight if you’re gonna fight, what’s with the chit-chat?" Bert launched a kick, sending the talkative thug flying, kicking off a 1v10 combat sequence. What should have been a visually impressive brawl had viewers’ attention diverted completely elsewhere.
Because, according to the previous viewers who had seen the whole scene, they knew the flowerpot was pushed off by the White Ghost Hand!
In other words...
[That ghost hand already realized it can’t kill the streamer directly and started to act indirectly?]
The comments burst into a flurry of discussion, while Feng Xue engaged in unrestricted Fighting with the thugs.
Unlike the action-movie tough-guy style of Augustus, Bert’s Combat style was extremely "street," picking up anything around to use; street-cleaning Machines, cement posts stuck roadside, even awnings above signs.
If Augustus was like Schwarzenegger in Combat style, Bert was more like Jackie Chan.
But with closer thought, one might notice a creeping horror Hidden within Bert’s Fighting.
Because he could casually wrench off the cement post used for blocking cars on the roadside like it was a mere corncob, then wrench off two more and topple the chasing thugs before tossing them aside, snatching a passing flying bike to use as a brick.
In no time, No Man’s Land 42 descended into chaos; flying cement posts, shattered vehicles, scattered storefronts. In just a few minutes, the people behind Feng Xue grew from dozens to over a hundred, initially armed with clubs, now with guns and cannons.
[This streamer is something! I think he’s almost as good as that mayor candidate!]
[What are you saying? Look closely, there’s a ghost behind this streamer!]
[Shoot, there’s really a ghost! That hand!]
Just as Feng Xue used a motorcycle to knock three armed thugs flying, the White Ghost Hand reappeared in the viewers’ sight. It was holding one of the cement posts Bert had previously wrenched off, and as Bert dodged bullets, it swung it forcefully at his head!
The viewers didn’t even have time to type "streamer Danger" in the chat, but just as the cement post was about to make intimate contact with the streamer’s skull, blood mixed with brain matter splattered, even carrying a bit of wiring-connected electronic eye.
But the brain matter and Blood didn’t belong to the streamer.
Instead, it was the thug who had been facing off with the streamer.
Where was the streamer?
Almost simultaneously with this thought, viewers, accustomed to Bert’s livestream, instinctively pressed the split-screen replay button. On the split-screen, everything that happened a few seconds ago replayed.
Just as the ghost hand raised the cement post, Bert was pushed back half a step by a thug equipped with a "Gorilla Arm" Artificial Body, then his foot landed on a broken bat.
Just like a coincidence in a comedy movie, the streamer’s body suddenly fell backward, while the thug who took a step forward to Chase was accidentally headshot by the ghost hand.
[What insane luck is this?!]
