Master of Kaidan -
Chapter 297 How could I have such a dream?
Chapter 297: Chapter 297 How could I have such a dream?
That night was calm and serene, with no Kaidan lingering on the streets.
As Yayuka was sleeping, Feng Xue secretly used a public phone booth to call Chen Xiyao, then returned to the Hoshino house. She watched Hoshino Minami being held in Yayuka’s arms as if she might be strangled at any moment, smiled slightly, and implanted a seed into her body.
"It’s strange, after arriving at the Hoshino house, Kaidan really didn’t follow us. Are these Kaidan idiots, not suspecting Yayuka at all?"
Feng Xue scratched her head in puzzlement and eventually returned her focus to Yayuka, deciding to observe further.
Meanwhile, in Yan Country, an hour ahead of Bido Country, a phone call woke Fu Tianli who had already gone to bed. He fumbled for his phone in front of his face, glanced at it while still drowsy, and realizing it was a public number, he instinctively grabbed something resembling a lipstick from his bedside, uncapped it, and sniffed it.
Instantly, a cool rush shot up to his crown, jerking Fu Tianli into alertness. He got out of bed, went to his study, and then answered the call:
"Hello, what’s the matter?"
"Team leader, Chen Xiyao received another call."
The call handler, responsible for the night shift, got straight to the point. Fu Tianli paused, then it dawned on him, and he asked with a frown,
"From ’Mo Ju’?"
"Not sure, but he claimed to be. The phone’s IP came from a public booth in Chiba Prefecture of the Eastern Country, suspected to be related to the recent abnormal activities of Hundred Tales in Eastern Country, but it’s not certain if it’s him."
The duty member made a precise report, and after contemplating, Fu Tianli said,
"Has the Communication group been informed?"
"They have been informed, and the recording has been sent to the archives team for analysis."
While listening to the duty member’s response, Fu Tianli made himself a cup of tea and then sat down and said,
"Send a message to our undercover agents in the Eastern Country, asking them to pay attention to the situation in Chiba Prefecture, but tell them not to let the First Experimental Group intervene. They are being closely watched right now and it could backfire."
"Understood!"
"Ah, I had a really good sleep!" In the early morning, woken by the alarm clock, Yayuka crawled out of Rinko’s quilt. After several days, she finally slept without any burden of being watched by Kaidan, feeling so refreshed she thought her dark circles might have faded.
Rinko was also awakened by the noise in her head; she rubbed her slightly foggy head and said somewhat speechlessly,
"I think I had a really terrifying dream..."
"Eh? What kind of dream? Being pressed in a bathtub by a fruit guy?" Still not fully awake, Yayuka asked subconsciously. Rinko, hearing this, gave a strange look and said:
"That’s not a nightmare, that’s a spring evening dream, right? I just dreamt I was entangled by a tentacle monster!"
"That’s not much better, is it?" Yayuka finally realized what she had said and blushed as she spoke, but Rinko shook her head seriously—
"It’s different; the tentacle monster didn’t do anything strange to me, it just wrapped around my neck and made it hard for me to breathe..."
"What I talked about, the fruit guy, didn’t do anything... ah, no, I don’t even know what a fruit guy is!" Yayuka felt as if she might be under some straightforward yet strange curse, and then a lifeless voice inside her responded—
"Not at all, it’s just sleep daze causing insufficient processing power, but speaking of which, is now really the time to be considering this?"
"What should I consider then?" Yayuka, sensing an underlying message in the substitute’s words, ignored Rinko’s strange look and asked herself in her heart.
Feng Xue didn’t keep her in suspense and directly said,
"There were no Kaidan incidents last night."
"Isn’t that a good thing?" Yayuka was puzzled, but then she heard the substitute say,
"But they had appeared on the previous days."
"Do you mean... they are specifically targeting me?" Yayuka finally grasped the implication of the words; if the Kaidan were everywhere, it would be one thing, but if they were only in her neighborhood, or even only in her house, that was an entirely different concept.
This was not just her own problem; she also had to worry about bringing danger to Rinko’s family!
"Yayuka, are you alright?" Seeing her best friend’s tense expression, Rinko couldn’t help but become concerned. Hearing this, Yayuka managed to feign calmness and said,
"I’m fine, I just suddenly remembered I haven’t done my homework! I didn’t bring my bag either, I must hurry back!"
"Why bring up such a terrifying topic all of a sudden?!" Upon hearing this, Rinko immediately showed a pained expression. Seeing this, Yayuka couldn’t help but laugh,
"So do your homework well. Please apologize to your aunt and uncle for me, I have to go back now!"
"Alright, be careful on your way!" Rinko nodded with a complex expression. It wasn’t until her best friend had freshened up and left the house that her expression changed—
"She should have eaten breakfast before going back even if she didn’t do her homework! Yayuka must be hiding something from me! Could it be that she’s being threatened by someone?"
Rinko’s mind suddenly conjured up certain plots from thin booklets, like delinquents blackmailing female high school students with some strange leverage.
Thinking this, Rinko immediately grabbed her phone and carefully followed her out.
...
"It’s so quiet on the streets, isn’t it too weird even for a weekend?" After walking on the familiar streets for a few minutes, Rinko’s expression suddenly turned odd. The road, although familiar, had become so strange at that moment; the extreme quietness unnerved her, and just as this unease was about to peak, a shrill screech suddenly exploded by her ear.
Instinctively turning her head, Rinko’s eyes widened with shock, for about twenty meters away at the street corner, a gigantic spider suddenly emerged.
Its menacing, blade-like eight legs pierced deeply into the ground with each step, and its weird maw, composed of numerous interlocking gears, opened wide as if it could swallow a person’s head whole.
At that moment, Rinko seemed utterly petrified, her mind frantically signaling her to run, but her feet showed no sign of moving; she could only watch as the massive spider madly rushed toward her, and then...
Everything went dark...
...
...
"Hoshino Rinko!"
"Who is it? Who’s calling my name?" Rinko, hearing the voices around her that seemed to be broadcast in unison yet not quite in sync, was momentarily confused.
However, as her consciousness returned, that voice also began to slowly become clearer—
"Hoshino Rinko! Hoshino Rinko! Open your eyes! I am the Evil Rider! I am the Masked Rider from the Otherworld, and I..."
"The Masked Rider saying Ultraman’s lines, why would I dream such a thing?"
