Master of Kaidan
Chapter 296 Kaidan Meeting

Chapter 296: Chapter 296 Kaidan Meeting

Izumo, within a shrine whose specific location was hard to describe, various human-like Kaidan sat around a round table. Although it was a round table, one glance was enough to discern that four of these "beings" were unlike the others.

One was a sultry-looking woman with nine fluffy beast tails protruding from her back.

One was a sturdy young man with a bare upper body and a pair of giant horns on his head.

One was an old man in a monk’s robe with a pair of wings on his ribs and an exceedingly long nose.

Lastly, there was a mysterious female donning a blue kimono, her face concealed behind a demonic mask.

However, upon closer inspection, one would realize that those seated at the table were merely phantoms—this place itself was a Companion Phantom Object associated with a Kaidan, named "Divine Gathering."

(In other places referred to as the Divine Month, Izumo called it the Month of Gods, for it was said that during this month, all the gods from the Eastern Country would gather in Izumo for meetings, hence when "Month of Gods" became a Kaidan, the shrine "Divine Gathering" capable of hosting meetings for all these gods came into existence.)

After a brief silence, the monk-robed elder with a red face and a long nose finally spoke:

"Was the Identity Theft successful before death?"

"From the messages sent back by the Hundred-eyed Demon, Identity Theft indeed managed to steal the powers of the Masked Rider, and with considerable strength," replied the young man with horns, glancing at the empty seat beside him, which belonged to the Hundred-eyed Demon.

However, he had not died but was monitoring Chiba, hence his absence from the meeting.

"So, does this mean that the Kaidan involving elements like ’stealing a face’ and ’stealing an identity’ truly works on the Masked Riders?" The female with beast tails supported her chin with one hand, her eyes slightly misty, as the horned young man nodded and said:

"It can be basically confirmed."

"Then perhaps we can try increasing the weight of these types of Kaidan at this year’s Midsummer Night Festival," suggested the long-nosed monk-robed elder, turning his head to the masked female in blue. Seeing her nod gently, he continued:

"Speaking of which, have we managed to catch the tail of the Masked Rider?"

"No, their method of evading the Hundred-eyed Demon’s surveillance seems to be either a Phantom Object with splitting and mass production capabilities, or perhaps not a Phantom Object at all. Currently, based on the losses incurred, we can only pinpoint three locations as bases in Chiba, Nara, and Kumamoto. However, there are some differences in the transformation systems they use; we cannot rule out the possibility that these three are not from the same force."

The horned young man spoke with a slight headache before changing the subject:

"Compared to these rats, the ’superheroes’ in Columbia have had their locations confirmed. Should we take action?"

"Let’s not bother with them for now. Those ’imperfect products’ will not stir up any waves. It’s more crucial to follow this lead and focus on the organizations behind them."

The masked female shook her head, and the horned young man immediately nodded in agreement, but the female with beast tails frowned and interjected:

"What about that Kaidan involving the Masked Rider that got dragged here? And what about those Masked Riders from Yan Country?"

"The Masked Riders from Yan Country should be in Shinagawa County, but their exact location is still undetermined. As for that Orca, we’ve confirmed that he is indeed in Chiba. We’ve even found the door he entered through, but we have yet to locate his body, nor have we collected any remnants of his ’Identity.’ That guy definitely possesses powers like Hermit or Stealth."

The horned young man’s voice carried a hint of helplessness, but the masked female spoke sternly:

"We must deal with him until he completely digests it! The Kaidan of the Masked Rider is our only hope; we must control it ourselves!"

...

"How did you exactly become a Masked Rider? And even transform into a person?" At Rinko’s house, Yayuka chatted intermittently with her best friend about various topics related to Kaidan and Masked Riders, but her mind repeatedly echoed the question.

Feng Xue, irritated by her nagging, then deliberately feigned a somewhat listless tone:

"I just transformed using the Transformation Device, that’s just what this kind of thing does. You could transform too if you had it, and as for turning into a person, that’s easy. My ability is ’Unknown,’ and once fully unleashed, it becomes ’Known.’ Then, I just need to adjust a ’tiny bit’ of the known range, and it gives off the impression of ’this is a person,’ but you can’t remember ’which person.’"

"Can it really work like that?" Yayuka was evidently surprised, but Feng Xue casually remarked:

"Why not? My precision is Grade A! As long as I know the specific structure of something, I am confident I can replicate it. Take that Masked Rider Belt, for instance; if you want one, I can make it for you too."

"You’re not talking about just precision anymore, right? Or is your ability actually about crafting Magic Items?" In that moment, Yayuka felt a strong impulse, yet she still maintained strong skepticism towards her own special ability.

"It’s not. The so-called ability is just something you can do without knowing the principle behind it, while what can be done knowing the principle is just a technique. Otherwise, all special abilities would be multi-functional, like Star Platinum. Apart from stopping time, he can extend his fingers, draw, enlarge photos, take deep breaths, and so forth, but you can’t say Star Platinum’s ability includes a printer, magnifying glass, and vacuum cleaner, can you? As for why I can do it... just think of it as my Growth."

Feng Xue explained in a way that even a fan of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure could understand, and Yayuka finally reluctantly accepted this explanation.

Then...

"Then make me a Masked Rider Belt!"

"Okay, let’s go catch a Kaidan!" Feng Xue decisively responded.

"Eh? What do we need a Kaidan for?" Yayuka was taken aback by Feng Xue’s declaration, but Feng Xue matter-of-factly explained:

"The essence of Masked Rider is the same origin of friend and foe; the Knight System itself is made using Kaidan as materials. So, if you want a transformation device, we need to kill a Kaidan first and then use it as a material to make the belt, especially since the Kaidan there have..."

"Then forget it." Yayuka decisively interrupted Feng Xue’s rambling, her resolute attitude surprising even Feng Xue.

"Giving up just like that?" Feng Xue asked curiously, but Yayuka naturally responded:

"What else? I’m fine as I am now. You can handle the Kaidan just fine, and it seems those Kaidan can even detect the presence of Masked Riders. Having an extra belt would actually be less safe."

"..." Feng Xue emerged from Yayuka’s body and looked at the girl anew with a strange expression. He had seen many cowardly and decisive people before, but rarely did these traits coexist in one individual, like her. Should he call it cowardly decisiveness or just self-awareness?

Thinking this, Feng Xue’s gaze inadvertently focused on the girl beside him still ardently discussing the awesomeness of Masked Riders—

Would things be a bit more interesting if it were her instead?
