Master of Kaidan -
Chapter 293 Kaidan Control
Chapter 293: Chapter 293 Kaidan Control
The originally peaceful street instantly plunged into chaos. Passersby scattered like bees down both ends of the street but stopped again after running twenty or thirty meters.
Feng Xue was quite baffled by the situation and asked,
"Are people here just thrill-seekers with a death wish?"
"How would I know?" Yayuka was dragging Rinko to escape the battlefield. Upon hearing Feng Xue’s words, she was clearly speechless. But Rinko, unable to struggle against Yayuka, who was dragging her along in their escape, shouted,
"Stop running, it’ll only get more dangerous if you continue!"
"Huh? I think standing still is more dangerous!" Yayuka retorted immediately. Meanwhile, Rinko was slowing down Yayuka’s pace and anxiously added,
"When you see a Kaidan, you mustn’t run; you should gather with other people who can see it, or else you’ll easily be caught by the Kaidan if you stray alone!"
"..." Only then did Yayuka recall there indeed was such a legend. She immediately halted her footsteps, while Rinko, panting, complained,
"When did you get so strong? Never mind, just blend into the crowd quickly!"
Rinko pulled Yayuka into the onlookers.
At this time, those dozen or so low-level Kaidans, which could only be described as twisted, surrounded the Masked Rider, transformed by that scruffy uncle, like minor monsters in a tokusatsu film. Unsure if it was due to spreading cognition or some other factor, neither the high-ranking Kaidan, which resembled a human more, nor this group of low-level Kaidans attacked the onlookers. The Masked Rider uncle didn’t mind either, patiently waiting for the surrounding combat space to be cleared by the bystanders. Only when the Kaidans surrounded him did he leisurely press his transformation device.
"Attack Control!"
"Bai Rongyi!"
A peculiar sound effect sounded once more. As a Crystal Card, which depicted something like a decaying white snake, was crushed by the Knight Belt, a tattered piece of white cloth draped over the Masked Rider, who bore a thirty percent resemblance to the Emperor Knight.
Without any exchange, that rag turned into slick tentacles, precisely entwining every low-level Kaidan around. At the same time, the Kaidan, dressed in an oversized trench coat but strangely exposed legs like a flasher, abruptly spread its coat.
However, underneath the coat, rather than a bare body, hung the faces of females filled with resentment.
"Face-stealing!" Rinko uttered a low exclamation, and from the crowd of onlookers around them came exclamations of, "Is there really a face-stealing Kaidan?" and "Is this the legendary face-stealing?"
"What is face-stealing?" Hearing her stand-in ask, Yayuka felt quite ashamed, then turned to ask Rinko the same question.
"A very terrifying Kaidan that supposedly attacks lone beautiful females, slices their faces off, and those whose faces are taken will become invisible and soon die. Only after their death do others notice, and her corpse is completely faceless with mostly extremely horrific external injuries..."
Listening to Rinko’s description, Yayuka felt chills all over. On the battlefield, the "face-stealing" had already thrown the faces inside its coat out.
Those faces, filled with venomous expressions, spun in the air, either biting at the tentacles unleashed by the Masked Rider or adhering themselves to other Kaidans.
Those Kaidans that got the faces stuck on immediately transformed from twisted forms into youthful, beautiful females. The scene of the Masked Rider battling monsters instantly skewed to tentacle monsters attacking pretty girls.
Fortunately, this Masked Rider didn’t mess up with any blunders about "unable to harm humans." Under the entangling of the sticky tentacles, all the Kaidans seemingly turned into humans were tightly bound. Amid continuous crunchy sounds, each head was twisted down at scalp-tingling angles.
However, these Kaidans, whose faces had been adhered, did not die immediately. Shaking their broken necks and limbs, they attacked the Masked Rider with stiff movements like marionettes.
"Using subordinates’ flesh and blood as weapons... truly despicable!" Rinko whispered with scornful contempt, while Feng Xue quietly said in Yayuka’s ear,
"Don’t be fooled by the brutal appearance, in reality, those faces absorb the damage. Don’t look at those Kaidans all twisted into a mess; the damage is actually borne by those faces... or rather, the owners of those faces, while the Kaidans are perfectly fine."
"Does that mean those whose faces were stolen died like this?" Yayuka felt a pang in her heart, but Feng Xue replied,
"Don’t you think that Masked Rider doesn’t know? But once it turns out like this, there’s already no salvation. Instead of pitying those doomed, it’s better to eliminate the culprit, or else more will suffer."
"Wouldn’t defeating this face-stealing return the faces to their original owners?" Yayuka found Feng Xue’s answer hard to accept, but Feng Xue sighed,
"This notion that killing the enemy will undo their powers is ultimately just storytelling compromise. At the end of the day, what has happened cannot vanish. This world hasn’t reached the kind dimension where killing murderers brings back the killed. Keep that in mind."
"Then can you go help?" Yayuka gritted her teeth, watching the Masked Rider gradually fall into a disadvantage during the encirclement. Feng Xue replied to the inquiry,
"The range is sufficient, but, can you really? You might expose yourself."
"But I can’t do nothing, right?" Yayuka stared at that Kaidan maneuvering faces like puppets, fear lingering in her eyes but determination firm,
"If we ignore it, more people will suffer!"
"Even at the cost of your own life?" Feng Xue didn’t argue against Yayuka’s statement but straightforwardly countered.
"At least I have the power to resist, which most people don’t." Yayuka’s tone remained resolute, but then it softened as she added,
"Besides, I didn’t say act now, but if the Masked Rider can’t win, you should intervene!"
While the two debated in their minds, the battlefield underwent another transformation. The Masked Rider, akin to a tentacle monster, drew another Crystal Card. This time, a lobster-like figure seemed to move on the card.
"Kaidan Control!"
"Net Cutting!"
The mechanistic sensation-filled chuunibyou sound effect accompanied by the successful activation of the card inserted into the slot transformed the original white tentacles into sharp blades. The low-level Kaidans, tightly bound, were nearly shredded into minced meat in an instant. Those female faces burst into flames amidst horrific screams.
Flames blazed, causing the low-level Kaidans to spring up like receiving a Millennium Slash, frantically trying to flee the Masked Rider’s attack range. But by then, the ragged white cloth on the Masked Rider’s body had turned into a mighty broadsword. With a single swipe, it sliced the two nearest Kaidans in half.
Without the protection of the faces, the low-level Kaidans became cannon fodder, and in just a couple of moves, they were slashed into pieces scattered all over. However, right then, someone from the crowd abruptly shouted—
"Watch out!"
As the words fell, the face-stealing, which had been acting like a commander, suddenly appeared with a rusted, black pair of scissors, behind the Masked Rider—
"Your mask, I’m taking it!"
