Master of Kaidan -
Chapter 128: Seeking Death?
Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Seeking Death?
"Rest! Let’s take a break!" Vera, who had died over and over again, finally couldn’t take it anymore. She raised her hand and shouted loudly to stop, then with a thud, she collapsed onto the ground again.
Watching the girl lying on the ground like a corpse, Feng Xue’s lips curved slightly upward as she squinted her eyes and struck out with her sword in the direction of her right hand.
Apart from a slight stinging pain, there were no substantial results, but that stinging pain made her smile even more radiant.
The Fantasy Sword, if placed in reality, would undoubtedly have no physical effects, but in the world of Kaidan, things were different.
The essence of Kaidan is Cognition, and the core of the Kaidan world is information. Therefore, when a fantasy is infused with sufficient Cognition, it can be recognized as "real."
This was something Feng Xue gradually realized as she repeatedly wielded the Life-taking Thirteen Swords in her fantasies, because she had accidentally discovered that she could add "Identity" into it when "striking with the sword"!
She didn’t know whether this was a common, advanced application of "Identity" or a special power that had emerged after reaching the realm of "One Thought to God," but without a doubt, it was a peculiar power.
If she were just swinging at the air without real-time feedback, it would be difficult for her to further recognize her own attacks. But with this little girl, it was different.
She was like the target in gun practice, clearly telling you what your level was.
The feedback from the swordsman and from the one being cut combined made the sword in Feng Xue’s heart become ever more real.
...
After lying there for about half a minute, Vera got up from the ground, still shaken. She reached to touch her neck, seemingly to confirm that her head was indeed still attached.
Every time she was hit by Feng Xue’s "fantasy," she felt as if she really died. But after experiencing it a few times and confirming that she wouldn’t actually die, she seemed to grow fond of this thrilling "extreme sport." As soon as she recovered, she immediately urged Feng Xue to do it again.
Well, one could only say that the kids raised on the garbage mountain really are different from the rest.
"Huff, huff..." Vera took several deep breaths and wiped away non-existent cold sweat, which made Feng Xue become somewhat curious. If the Infinite who came from crossing over retained some innate reflexes due to the influence of human memories, why then would an Infinite born in Infinite City display similar habits?
Vera didn’t notice Feng Xue’s puzzlement. She casually sat down next to Feng Xue’s head and suddenly asked out of nowhere,
"That guy, you should be quite strong, right?"
"I’m probably just average. Also, didn’t I tell you my name?" Feng Xue spoke with a hint of ambiguity, but Vera shook her head, seriously saying,
"Who knows if there’s a trap in your name? I’ve heard the village chief say that some people have a special sensation with their own names. What if you gave me someone else’s name, and I call it out here, and they immediately sense it?"
"You’re really clever. If it were something so convenient, wouldn’t I just call it out myself?" Feng Xue rolled her eyes and got straight to the point,
"Tell me, just yesterday you said you wanted to learn about the outside world, so why did you come here to learn how to kill today? Where’s your brother?"
"You don’t think that Vero was kidnapped, so I came to you, do you?" Vera suddenly flashed a taunting smirk, and Feng Xue’s face immediately darkened. However, just when he thought he was wrong, Vera’s expression changed:
"No, you’re right."
"So what’s your problem?" Feng Xue was completely speechless at the girl’s bizarre personality; he found it hard to understand the structure of her thoughts. Yet, Vera didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with her way of thinking as she adjusted her expression before finally speaking:
"That stupid brother of mine disappeared last night out of the blue. According to the rules of our village, if someone disappears, they’re considered dead. If it weren’t for the fact that tomorrow is garbage day, our village would have moved out today. I originally thought maybe you had kidnapped him, but who knew you would still be lying low here."
"So?" Feng Xue raised his eyebrows, having a better impression of the little boy named Vero compared to this unpredictable girl.
Hearing Feng Xue’s question, Vera simply shook her head and said,
"There’s no ’so’. People disappear, it’s that simple. I don’t want to disappear, so I came to learn from you. Isn’t that a reasonable thing to do?"
Watching Vera feign calmness, Feng Xue sighed and said helplessly,
"Let me tell you some good news. The Slave Catching Team usually captures children to sell to other organizations as subordinates, and that requires a period of training. Before that, your brother won’t be in any danger."
"I’m well aware of that." Vera forced a nonchalant expression and stared at Feng Xue,
"That fool disappeared, let him be. I couldn’t care less about finding him. I’m leaving in a couple of days, so I just came to see if I could benefit from you one last time!"
As she spoke, the girl suddenly stood up and did something out of Feng Xue’s line of sight. Accompanied by a clattering sound, Vera’s voice chimed in:
"Digging you out might not be quick enough, but I’ve knocked down the garbage piled around here. The rest is up to you."
"However, I can’t do anything," Feng Xue rolled his eyes and then sighed,
"How about a deal? I’ll pass on my life’s ultimate technique to you, and in return, you do something for me."
"You start with what you want done." Vera eyed Feng Xue warily, but this time she didn’t demand, "Teach me first."
"Simple, just kill me." Feng Xue said, tilting his head back as though exposing his throat.
"Are you an idiot?" Vera looked at Feng Xue with a perplexed expression, but he was nonchalant,
"Just tell me whether you agree or not."
"You don’t have some special ability that lets you possess the person who kills you, do you?" Vera looked at Feng Xue suspiciously, full of doubt. Feng Xue just rolled his eyes again, but before he could explain, Vera nodded as though she had an epiphany,
"Forget it, I agree."
"Aren’t you afraid I’ll trick you?" Feng Xue raised an eyebrow, but the girl seemed indifferent,
"It doesn’t matter, as long as you can help me bring Vero back."
"So you overthought it. Come on, watch this move." Feng Xue narrowed his eyes, imagining the moves of Life-taking Thirteen Swords in his mental state. At that moment, Vera seemed to see a person appear in front of her, holding a long sword and stabbing slowly towards her with incredibly gradual motion. Every movement, every detail, even the killing intent carried by this "person," was perfectly displayed.
"Did you remember?" Suddenly, Feng Xue’s voice interrupted Vera’s daze. She shook her head vigorously, realizing this was just like those previous strikes, all a condensation of killing intent.
Trying to recall in her mind, Vera frowned and murmured,
"I didn’t memorize the move, but there’s a feeling like, as long as I think about it, I can use it."
"Then you’ve got it right." Feng Xue grinned and silently adjusted his mental state to maintain the special mental state of being both still and moving before he then said to the girl,
"Alright, use the move I taught you and kill me."
