Chapter 527: Chapter 491: Boss, Please Be Careful (Extra 1)
Entertainment City.
In the room, many security personnel were busily working: clearing the scene, examining the body, and some were pulling up all the surveillance footage to start the analysis.
Two Caucasian men in uniforms markedly different from the rest of the security staff walked in. One was a skinny fellow nearly two meters tall, and the man beside him was only about one meter seventy, with a scholarly look, wearing thin-framed glasses, appearing as if he worked a nine-to-five office job at some major company.
"How’s it going?"
The tall man approached a security guard who was examining the body and asked quietly.
The security guard noticed the newcomer and immediately stood up, respectfully saying, "Mr. Gary."
Then, looking towards the other man with glasses: "Mr. Deng Er."
"He was originally one of our fighters. Because of his excellent skills, the boss promoted him to be part of his personal security," the security guard introduced.
Gary squatted down to inspect the body on the ground.
"His Adam’s apple took a heavy blow, and then his neck was twisted off... just like twisting a chicken’s neck—he didn’t have a chance to fight back..."
Gary quickly came to a conclusion, and Deng Er, standing on the side with glasses, furrowed his brows, "Adam’s apple? So it was a direct frontal hit, no other wounds?"
Gary shook his head: "None."
"The Adam’s apple is shattered; the assailant’s power was perfectly concentrated on one point, at least over three hundred pounds, and fast enough that he couldn’t react in time, tch."
After saying that, he turned to look at another two bodies.
"These two were the guards outside the boss’s room," the previous man quickly added.
Gary still examined them carefully and concluded, "All the bullets are still in the gun. They were hit by the assailant’s darts before they even got a chance to shoot, heh, to think the hidden weapon was faster than pulling the trigger."
Finally, Gary turned to the body with the slashed throat, but before he could inspect anything, Deng Er, who was standing nearby, suddenly said, "I know this man."
"Hmm?" Gary turned to look at Deng Er.
Deng Er had a complex expression as he stared at the body on the ground, "He was an assassin. My former boss was killed by him."
Gary was startled, then asked, "So, was it because of him that you lost your job before?"
Deng Er nodded, unsure of what else to say.
"Well, you two really had some fate," Gary joked.
Deng Er: "He was strong, both in spear technique and close-combat fighting. If I had faced him head-on back then, I likely would have died too."
Gary’s smile faded as he started to examine the body.
"The right wrist is cut wide open, the left arm is stabbed, and the throat is slit... tch, clean and ruthless, quick and vicious, I can almost picture it. This Mr. Assassin had almost no chance of resisting in front of his attacker."
After he finished speaking, Gary stood up and walked over to a blonde woman being questioned by someone else.
"What did you find out?"
"Mr. Gary, she only saw one person come in, who killed the boss’s personal bodyguard and then threatened the boss, seemingly demanding something. But she couldn’t understand what the other party was saying. After that, she was knocked out and tied up."
Gary nodded, not planning to ask anything further, and turned to the security personnel beside him, "Take us to the surveillance room."
"Yes."
Soon, they were led to the surveillance room.
"Our preliminary examination indicates that the footage has not been altered; it appears to be operating normally at all times, just... there have been some subtle modifications done covertly. The perpetrator used these slight temporal discrepancies to systematically penetrate the interior. We believe someone had tampered with our surveillance system in advance; the culprit is a hacking expert."
The person in charge of the surveillance room spoke to Gary and Deng Er. Deng Er walked over to the computer to thoroughly inspect the surveillance footage.
Five minutes later, Deng Er stopped what he was doing.
"How is it?" Gary asked.
"The entire floor’s surveillance system is quite comprehensive; theoretically, there should be hardly any blind spots in coverage. The imagery hasn’t been tampered with, but by tracing back the path of entry, we discovered several camera angles with virtually undetectable manual adjustments. First, there’s this here..."
Deng Er pointed at the surveillance screen, "There seems to have been a slight issue with the camera next to the entrance. The monitor caught it sharply, thinking it was a problem with the camera mount and sent security to check it out. In those few seconds, the killer entered this crossroads..."
"Directly following that, these cameras all made imperceptible adjustments. If we weren’t aware of the outcome, we would never have noticed anything off with these shots. From outside to this room, there are many possible routes. During the first time frame, you’ll notice here someone walking, here, and here as well. Therefore, the killer likely took this route. The camera panned, and he stepped out, and the camera behind perfectly captures this crossroads... there’s no one there. He was just one step quicker than the camera. The two cameras in this corridor, look, they pan naturally with no one there. But in between them, there’s about a meter and a half of blind spot. This camera moves, the other moves, and the killer... hid right in that single second of a blank space. A fixed speed, perfectly in control of everything..."
"So, it’s not just one person; there’s at least one other on the outside coordinating," Gary said.
Deng Er nodded, "Correct, both parties are highly skilled. Because in this space that seems to be thoroughly covered by surveillance cameras, someone has created a constantly moving blind spot. Look, this camera is a bit ahead of the last, and it seems to be just about overlapping with the previous one, but it always falls short by that little bit. From here, to here, then around the corner, every corridor, even down to the second, it’s unbelievable!"
"And there’s this, the security guard who passed this corner, the killer should never have been able to hide from him, but he did, and that guard didn’t die either. I’ve no idea how he managed that, it was as if he turned invisible!"
The surveillance room was eerily quiet, everyone listening intently to Deng Er’s analysis. The surveillance images clearly showed no sign of the killer he described. Yet, with his analysis, the atmosphere in the surveillance room turned increasingly eerie.
In those surveillance images, the entirety of Entertainment City wasn’t silent; it seemed like people were constantly passing through every corridor. It was precisely because it seemed like there were countless people coming and going, countless eyes observing, yet someone was moving through the place, undetected like a ghost, that made the feeling all the more profound.
A chill rose in everyone present.
"The boss is waiting for our conclusion," Gary said to Deng Er.
The two of them were part of Celeon’s security, not part of the same system as Kap’s men, but they came bearing Celeon’s instructions, so the security personnel on site were highly respectful towards both of them.
Deng Er thought for a moment and then took out his phone to call Celeon.
The phone was quickly answered.
"Boss, we’ve completed our inspection."
"Speak," Celeon’s voice was very cold.
Deng Er hesitated for a moment before responding, "From the entire operation, it’s evident the other party is an absolute professional – precise, elusive, and frighteningly efficient! Most importantly, the individual’s capabilities are extremely strong; our people are no match for them one-on-one."
"Boss, you must be cautious."
