Chapter 260
When they finally left the bed, Era sat alone in her opulent chambers with Vidor gone to tend to his kingly duties, leaving her alone to contemplate the events of the day.
She did not bother about this, seeing as it gave her the opportunity to read the letter she had picked up.
Her heart pounded with a mix of anticipation and trepidation. She gazed out of the large window, watching as the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow across the land.
Her mind raced with conflicting emotions, wondering if she held a secret that could shatter the fragile peace that existed within the palace walls.
With trembling hands, Era reached into the folds of her elegant gown and retrieved a folded piece of parchment, its edges worn and creased.
It had been concealed against her body, pressed close to her heart, throughout her time with Vidor before her naughty husband discarded her clothes.
As she carefully unfolded the paper, her eyes widened in disbelief.
The words on the parchment revealed a dark conspiracy, a plot to undermine the kingdom’s stability and jeopardize the lives of those she held dear.
Her breath caught in her throat as she reread the lines written on the paper.
"No, this is not good. There’s another conspiracy. I must figure this out for Vidor and help him this time," she said in a whisper.
A deep sadness washed over Era as she realized the extent of the deception that had taken root in Vidor’s court. She knew how badly he dealt with traitors and the anger that would invade his heart and mind.
This was something she knew she did not want him to experience again after her family’s death.
She traced her finger along the inked words, her mind struggling to comprehend the enormity of the situation.
The weight of responsibility settled heavily upon her shoulders, threatening to crush her spirit.
As queen, it was her duty to safeguard her kingdom and its people, and she could not afford to turn a blind eye to this conspiracy but then she had no idea who it was exactly.
One would have thought that by handling Caspian, things would go well... no who was she kidding? She was literally given his position which spelt doom and more trouble.
Subconsciously, Era reached for her necklace, letting her fingers graze
Era’s shock slowly transformed into a steely determination. She refused to be a pawn in someone else’s game, a victim of their deceit.
She would uncover the truth, expose the conspirators, and protect the empire she held so dear.
Rising from her seat, Era walked to a large ornate desk in the corner of the room, strewn with quills, ink pots, and stacks of parchment.
With a resolute expression, she grabbed a fresh piece of paper, her hand steady despite the turmoil in her heart.
Her fingers glided across the page as she penned a letter, her words carefully chosen to convey her suspicions and request aid from a trusted ally beyond the palace walls.
Lord Damian.
As the ink dried on the parchment, she sealed it with wax and pressed her royal seal into the molten wax, marking it as a missive from the queen.
Placing the letter into an envelope, Era clutched it tightly in her hand, feeling renewed purpose.
She would not allow this conspiracy to consume her kingdom. She would fight for justice, the truth, and the safety of all who called this land home.
’If anyone can figure this out, it is Damian. I need his help more than ever and I want eyes on Caspain more than it has ever been before,’ she thought. ’I will find answers.’
With that decided, Era left her chambers without another word. Her mind was set; there was much work ahead if she wanted to save herself and those closest to her.
She needed allies now more than ever... but where could they be found?

The sun had long since disappeared behind the horizon when Azzura wandered off from Era’s chambers in search of Avi.
It had been a while since she had time to spend with him.
After taking Era’s advice, she found out her heart really went to him and not Jasper. Although Jasper began to let loose when she pushed past his boundaries, the weight of his family still lingered on.
Avi on the other hand, gave her more butterflies in her stomach.
Azurra took a deep breath as she waded through the garden to their meeting spot.
The air felt crisp against her skin as she walked along the stone path leading away from the palace grounds towards the west wing.
A few guards stood watch at the side gate as usual, keeping an eye on any suspicious activity within or outside the palace walls.
They were always vigilant about anything unusual happening around them. It seemed like every day something new happened which made Azurra feel uneasy.
She did not know what exactly was going on inside Vidor’s court but it certainly wasn’t good news for anyone involved.
Taking the side route, Azzura made her way past them till she came to a clearing where a figure sat upon a large rock overlooking the lake below.
It looked peaceful enough so she approached quietly until she reached beside him and stopped.
"Hey," said Azzura softly. "I’m glad you’re here."
Avi turned slowly toward her voice and then smiled warmly. He rose from his seat to greet her with open arms. His eyes glimmered with excitement as he pulled back slightly and gazed into hers.
"You look beautiful tonight," Avi complimented with genuine warmth in his eyes.
Azurra blushed lightly before returning his smile. Her cheeks burned red hot under his gaze; however, this only added fuel to the fire that already raged between them.
"Thanks."
"No need to thank me. It’s the truth and I’ve really missed you. I am sorry that work has taken up much of my time and I..."
Her smile grew as she wrapped her hands around his neck, pulling herself closer to kiss him passionately, cutting him short indefinitely.
Their lips met again and again, each one more passionate than the last. As they kissed, they held onto each other tightly, their bodies pressed together firmly.
