Chapter 244

With that last instruction, she did as he commanded, walking closer to Vidor and going down on her knees without complaint as she bowed her head and accepted the decree.

"I, Era Elrad, accept his majesty’s decree."

His lips churned up in a satisfied smile as he eyes. If she had looked up, she would have noticed how his eyes twinkled from having her accept.

"By the power invested in me, I, Vidor, King of Etheria, appoints you, Era, Queen of Etheria as Regent and second in command in all the empire and ruler over all. No one shall have any power over you, save I, your king and husband."

With the smile still on his face, he took the ring and ordered, "Give me your right hand, my love."

She held out her right hand to him and awaited what was to follow. Slowly, he slid onto her finger, the ring and symbol of her power. Once that was done. He picked up the sceptre from the pillow and handed it over to her.

Using both hands, Era accepted it and bowed completely, with her head close to the ground before him.

One thing was certain in her mind. Come what may, he still was her king and head over her being.

"I give you, your Queen and regent. Queen Era, Regent of Etheria!"

Everyone erupted into cheers and praises as they chanted her name.

"Long live the queen!"

"Long live the queen!"

"Long live the queen!"

Vidor heaved out a deep sigh and leaned forward to help her up. As soon as she turned, she fixed her gaze on her people and lifted the sceptre in her right hand, signifying her royal duty.

As much as the burden was heavy, she recalled the words Vidor had spoken to her of.

’My love, I love you and I want you to know that every decision I make from today has your wellbeing first in it. In all, know that I am here. I would always be by your side.’

Holding onto those words was her lifeline and she was going to use it. He came up behind her and placed his left hand on her waist while he used the right to wave at his people.

More cheering, clapping and jubilation continued to their hearing and finally, it was time.

"Time to go down and greet your people," he informed her.

Her eyes flew open at the news. "Huh?"

"What is it? Do not tell me that you are scared of them now are you?"

’No. It is just, I am not prepared," she half lied.

"Neither were you for this duty. It is tradition and what have you to worry about when you have me by your side?"

She could no longer refute his words and nodded in agreement. "That is the spirit, love. Let’s go. Your people await."

Following behind him without so much of a choice, they left the balcony, with their ministers, Lords, Ladies and council members, bowing before them.

As much as they wore a smile on their faces, Era knew, that not all of them conformed to his decision and thus would open a new phase of war in her life.

Together, they walked hand in hand until they arrived down at the palace guard and he walked her through the crowd of people who jubilated with her.

Before long, she caught Vidor’s eyes darting in the direction of Lord Damian and pulled him by the arm. "Your majesty, shall we head back now?"

"We only got here, what is the rush for? Come on, see Lord Damian close by. Let us go and greet him. I bet he would be proud of you."

As much as he did not want to take her there, he wanted Damian to witness that he had won the love of his life.

She tried resisting but Vidor would not have it and together, they made their way there.

All through the silent little walk, she wished Lord Damian would take the initiative and walk away before they got there, especially since Ekleora remained with him.

’Damian, Damian, Damian.’ Era chanted in her mind.

She hoped Eleora would use her telepathy to speak to her but both parties looked as though they had planned to be seen.

Before long they arrived and came to a half. Slowly she brought her gaze up and let it remain on Damian’s face.

"Greetings, Your Majesties," he bowed before them as did Eleora. "Congratulations on your appointment, Quen Era."

"Thank you, Lord Damian."

"Are you happy with my decision?" Vidor questioned.

"Yes. I am satisfied with it. Not only had his majesty made the best decision by picking the best candidate, but you would also pacify the hearts of the dead. Forgive me, your majesty," he raised his brows a bit at Era.

"Apologies accepted."

’I see." Vidor too shifted his gaze to his wife. Death as a whole was a touchy topic for her. Trying to look for something to take them off the course of their discussion, he brought his attention to the young one standing beside Damian.

"And who do you have here, Lord Damian?"

Both Damian and Era cast a glance at each other before looking at Eleora. All the while, she had refused to gaze up and behold Vidor.

But that alone was something Era was almost certain, would attract his attention.

"Oh, this is my squire, your majesty," Damian introduced.

"Your squire?" He hummed and accessed Eleora carefully. "He looks skinny. Are you training him?"

"Sure. He was with me when I heard the news of your preparation for her majesty. That was why he came here," Damian explained briefly.

"Okay. Does this squire have a name perhaps?" Immediately Damian pried his lips open to speak, Vidor, lifted his hand to stop him. "He has a mouth and a tongue I suppose. I know you are not a brutal Lord to cut out his tongue, am I right?"

"Yes, sire."

"Good. " he peeled his gaze back to Eleora and narrowed his eyes at her. "Tell me, what is your name?"

She hesitated a bit and cleared her throat. Mimicking Gabriel’s voice, she replied. "Ora, your majesty."

"Ora. Nice name for a skinny boy. Raise your head let me get a look at your face."
