Chapter 243 – Decree 2
To Era’s amazement, the second she pried her eyes open, she was standing so close to the balcony rails overlooking the crowd of people gathered below.
Her heart skipped a bit and her jaw dropped when she saw the smile on their faces. It took her about a minute to register fully what was happening before she looked to her side to see Vidor.
She did not have to say anything but the look on her face told him all she wanted to speak off.
Immediately, an uproar of cheers erupted from beneath them, sending her heart jumping straight into her mouth.
"Oh my!" She gasped and placed a hand on her chest, admiring the sight before her. They weren’t speaking but the smiles worn on their faces were enough to make her feel happy for a lifetime.
It wasn’t forced, neither did these people look like those made to do things they did not want to do.
"My love," Vidor pulled her attention to him. "I love you," he confessed freely. "And I want you to know that every decision I make from today has your wellbeing first in it."
She blinked at him, not understanding all that he meant. "I am sorry, Era but all I seek is your forgiveness for placing this burden on you."
She blinked, and a smile warmed up her eyes. "Vidor. What do you mean? Right from the day, I agreed to marry you, I sealed my fate with you. As your queen, this is no burden."
"I know but what is about to happen, might be. In all, know that I am here. I would always be by your side."
"Alright," she still laughed, completely oblivious to the burden he spoke off.
All of a sudden, she heard a shout from behind them. That was when reality really dawned on her.
"The royal edict! Presenting to you, His royal majesty, King Vidor and her royal majesty, Queen Era!"
Her brows furrowed deeply as the cheers from the crowd resounded. "Yay!"
"Following the wishes of his majesty, I Lord Baron, shall now read the royal decree," he declared out loud to the hearing of everyone.
Badum! Badum!
The fast beat of her heart as it raced wildly in her chest became louder by the second against her eardrum.
Nevertheless, Era managed to stand still as the royal minister, one of the kingmakers walked up to them and bowed to the king.
Vidor nodded at him, giving him the go-ahead that he desired before he turned to the crowd, completely avoiding her eyesight.
’I am sorry, my love. Forever I will be sorry but please... do not hate me after this.’ Vidor chanted in his mind.
She wished to look at her husband and plead with him to make it all stop but her body refused to listen to her silent wish.
All she could do was stand and watch the horror happen before her.
Her mind raced back to their time in the bedroom and his request on making her his regent. She felt like cursing herself for not seeing this coming.
’Urgh, Era, how could you have been so daft? All the preparations should have reminded you. This is what being in love had done to you.’ She thought within her.
Meanwhile, as her eyes roamed through the crowd, they caught sight of one whom she had come to cherish as her own.
Lord Damian stood close to one of the trees close to the palace ground and leaned against it. He gave a slight nod, to show his approval and her heart felt like the burden was slowly becoming lighter.
Just as she was about to trail her eyes away, something else by his side caught her attention. A little one was by his side, covered properly with a cloak.
One thing was uncanny though. That was the shining hair, properly hidden behind the cloak that fell off in front of her face.
If her heart had earlier skipped a beat, then this time around it was skipping more than just a beat.
’She had come.’ Era noted in her mind while her lips parted and her breathing returned.
’Eleora came. How did she... Damion, bringing her out like this. This is risky.’ She finalized in her mind.
While her head went into shambles of what could happen if things go wrong and Eleora was spotted, she noticed the young one raised her head and their eyes met.
Blue eyes as sharp as eyes, with a face only the gods could differentiate from hers. The divinely spitting image of herself, staring right back at her.
"Congratulations sister. He is treating you well the way that you deserve."
Her mind became alert as she recognised the voice. It was Eleora. She telecommunicated.
’Has she been practising?’ Era thought. No matter how she tried to view the situation, it could only possibly be what it was.
"Have you been practising?" she asked within her, knowing full well that she hard her.
"Yes. I have had plenty of time but just with Gabriel."
"You what!" Her eyes flew open instantly. For more than a minute there, she forgot herself and what she was there for and was ready to scold her sister for letting someone else find out she had powers.
"Eleora!" she yelled in her head.
"Ouch sister, concentrate on your king. Do not make him suspicious," she felt her grin at the back of her mind.
As soon as Eleora warned her, Lord Baron called out to her in a whisper, "Your majesty, it is time." He lifted the decree towards her and bowed his head.
Unknown to her, while her eyes danced about and she spoke to her sister, someone somewhere stood and watched it all happen before his eyes.
’There she is. One of them. Indeed, the queen hides this from the king. But why did Lord Damian bring her here?’ Jordan contemplated in his mind.
Taking the decree from him, Era bowed her head as well. "Her majesty would now bow before the king and accept the ring and sceptre of duty," he informed her.
