Chapter 236

They proceeded back to the bed and waited for Aeverie to deliver the drinks.

She sat on the bed with her head resting against his left shoulder while they read a scroll together.

"Hmm, how do you propose to handle this dispute?" Vidor inquired of her, his gaze remained fixed on the report in his hand.

"Well, since you are benevolent and with your dealings with people, you should know that by now not everything we see is as they seem."

"True. So, what is your take?"

"Hmm, I think first of, both women are right," Vidor’s brows furrowed slightly at her words, "And wrong at the same time."

"Wrong?"

"Yes. From each one’s perspective, they are right but at the same time they have their own fault and are wrong."

"So you tell me, what can we do to resolve their farm dispute and livestock?"

"Let them both compensate the other. And apologize to the other. You can see that the first was wrong when her fence fell down but even after two months she did not do anything to have it fixed. Now she forgot to feed them and her cow ran out and broke into the other lady’s farm, destroying her produce."

"Hahhaa and in anger, she killed the cattle."

’Which in my case was extreme. Tame it if you can, if not chase it away or lock it and wait for the owner to come and then she can pay for the damage."

"Yes, but in a fit of rage she did what she did," Vidor explained to her.

"This brings us to the part where one should not base any action or decision on emotion. It has its way of making things go wrong and then just... It is wrong." She stated flatly.

"I know but I would be happy, whether I am wrong or not."

"Happy about what?" Era lifted her head and peered up at him. "What would you be happy about even if you are wrong?"

"To promise my kingdom to you and my heart." Her eyes widened at his statement. Did he not just hear what she said? How could he just say that jokingly?

"Vidor but this is a matter that is..." She did not get to finish her words when his lips pressed softly against hers.

Unlike previous kisses, this was smooth. He did not push for it much. Rather he allowed his lips to brush past the outlines of hers, giving her the soothing feeling of feathers on her skin.

"I love you, Era," he said, pulling back to gaze into her lovely eyes. "I would not regret making such decisions and as of today, I make you my regent. Your words are the same as mine."

"Vidor, this is serious. You made a mistake once by giving it to Caspian." He lifted his brow at her. And immediately she clamped her lips shut.

He let out a small smile at her. "Continue, love."

"Well, you made a mistake before giving Caspian and he misused the opportunity. I think before you make anyone else your regent you should first think of this decision properly. This is what I say you should not base it off of emotion."

He leaned in again, his long lashes fluttering close as he pressed his lips to the bridge of her nose.

"I love you."

"And I know," Era stated, pulling away to look him in the eye. "And I love you too but Vidor, this is a kingdom we are talking about. So many lives are dependent on ours."

"So, you do not trust you would do a good job and you would misuse the opportunity?"

"No, I would not do that."

"Great. That is why I gave you that position as my regent."

"But." Era protested. He was being playful and she was serious. How could he not see that?

His brows creased and his smile dropped as he stared deeply into her eyes. "You do not take my words seriously?"

"You aren’t taking mine seriously too."

"No." He sat properly and held her by her shoulders. "This is not me talking from my emotions because I simply love you or I am aroused. No. I am speaking logically. Out of everyone you have the least goal to want me dead and you care more for people than just yourself."

"What?" Her eyes narrowed at him. Immediately her heart woke up and jumped in her chest. She could feel the fear rising. All for one thing. Her children, her sister.

Had Vidor found out about them? If not how else would he know she was caring for people? She hasn’t shown it yet right?"

He pressed his lips between her brows, hoping to ease the crease there and just like she relaxed and breathed out softly.

"I know you have a good heart, Era."

"But what if I want to kill you as my revenge?" She felt him pause and even his breathing ceased at first.

Seconds passed and Era felt his lips pull to the sides in a smile as he released the breath he held in.

"Even if you die by your hands, it would be a good death and one I deserve, my love. I would use my life to atone for my sins to you readily."

"Vidor." She tried to pull back but he had already snaked his hand at the back of her head and held her in place. "No."

"Stop resisting and making yourself less good than you are. I have seen you. I know how your heart operates and I know that had I not." He paused again. He was going to dive into more painful topics now.

"If I had not given the order, your heart would not have been cold, especially towards me."

"Vidor." He still refused to let her go and pressed his lips harder on her forehead. "I am sorry." He felt something wet fall on his arm and he gazes down. Another followed right after.

Instinctively he pulled away completely, his eyes lowered to her face to see the warm liquid rolling of her cheek.
