Chapter 220

BRRAAGGHHHH!

The loud noise coming from the roaring of the thunder and striking of the lightning told this was not a very good day for play.

And it signalled to everyone that more wicked days were yet to come.

BRAGGAAARH!

Era’s eyes flew open the second time she heard the sound of the thunder, flinging her out of her sleep state and making her even more conscious.

She jolted on the bed, trying to escape when she felt a pair of hands wrap around her, pulling her body closer to his.

The hardened flesh her cheek rested on, reminded her of what had transpired between them.

*Flashback*

She had wanted to help Vidor out but he refused her and pulled her to sleep in his arms.

Turns out that while they yet spoke, they did sleep. Regardless, she recalled a specific conversation that lingered on in her mind.

"Love?"

"Yes?"

"You are daring, you know that right?"

"I am?" she feigned ignorance and propped up on one hand while she watched his face. "Tell me."

"Sure. You are one heck of a queen but one thing is certain, Caspian and the others would not rest just yet. You need to be careful."

"Hmm, okay." Her fingers snaked up past his pelvic region to his chest and circled her fingers on his chest. "Tell me, why are you warning me?"

"You may be a target now that people suspect my feelings for you," Vidor explained.

"Well, who is the one who cannot let go of me, even in public? Me or you?"

"I know I am to blame but who did the first public display of affection.? It was you," Vidor accused her.

"No, you kissed me outside first. We had our first kiss the day we met Jordan and don’t you deny it."

"But who saw us? No one right? Besides, the next time I kissed you, it was inside my chambers. However, you went to do yours and you kissed me in front of the palace, in front of my soldiers, in front of my royal guards and even Damian’s armies. So?"

"Tsk, why bring that up. You know I was scared and that was it. I was scared I would not see you again and that something bad happened to you because you, King Vidor of Etheria did not for ponce stop to think before rushing into battle. Was that how you won over kingdoms? By not thinking?"

He could not say anything. She really was right but she should also understand him.

"Era, I know I was impulsive and rash. Very much, my love but, I fell in love for the first time and with a woman who hates me and to crown it all up, I angered her and we rarely spoke, then she took off."

"I never ran away, Vidor. I never left you."

"Still, it wasn’t like you told me where you were going."

"You said you did not want to see me and myself in front of you. You hurt me too. I was caring about you but you hurt me."

"You hurt me too. I love you and kissed you."

"That wasn’t the only thing that happened. You were biting off more than you can chew, your majesty."

"Fine. I cannot believe we are having an argument about the past, my love."

"Well, you started it."

"Here we go again." He reached up with his fingers and massaged his temples while releasing a deep sigh. "Not now, Era. I can fight with you any other day, but not now."

"Hmm, so you intend on picking a fight with your queen?"

"Era, that is not it. I meant I am tired now, and I came here to be with you and not to fight. So we should not recall so much about the past," he corrected.

"Fine but on one condition."

"Name it."

"Promise me, Vidor, promise me as King of Etheria, that if by any chance, any means at all, such a thing ever repeats itself and in a case, I am in danger, you would not leave your stronghold, your people and come save me."

His brows furrowed deeply. He did not like her words. First, it was like she spoke of doom and the next, how dare she tell him to leave her when in danger.

"Please promise me. I cannot have Etheria fall into the wrong hands. So many would suffer."

He let his hand drop to her arms and brought it up to her face, caressing her cheeks softly.

One thing was sure, he was glad she did not bother to cover up before him and stayed half bare at his side. This was one thing he never would have imagined in his life but it was happening.

"You have the second-largest empire aside Slyeria. Etheria would be destroyed if another person takes that throne to rule. So be it or whoever, never risk your life and leave your people. Your duty first as their king is their safety."

"And you too, you are my subject. Do not ask me to choose Era, because I would disappoint you. I lobe them but you, my heart beats for you. Without you, I would not exist in this world."

"You can and you will," she corrected him." Bringing her hand up to her cheek, she gently placed her hand over his and caressed it.

"No, Era. Aside from being a king, I am a husband and would be a father. My family comes..."

"Second," she corrected. "Your duty is to your people. How do you think you and I came to be? If my father was selfish, bless his soul, you would never have wanted me and Meribia would probably still stand today."

"No. I think it was selfish giving just you away for the kingdom."

"Hahaha, silly. Would you have wanted him to give you his wife and all the ladies of court first in marriage?"

"No. That is not what I meant. He would have surrendered. That way, he gets to keep his daughter and wife and women of court at their respective places rather than sacrificing one for all."

Era did not say anything. He may have a point but her father did not want his people under anyone. Definitely not to have the men fight wars and keep dying.

"It was selfish of him. He had given you up since when you were little."

"He wouldn’t have honoured it if you had not brought war knocking on our door, Vidor."

"Let’s not talk about that, please. It is in the past and if he chose not to honour the agreement because my father was dead, it would not be honourable of him."

"What would you have had him do? Call to the mighty king of Etheria that everyone feared and offer his daughter on a platter of gold?"

"Yet, in the end, he did just that."

"Are you complaining?" She narrowed her eyes at him.

"No and yes. No, because he brought you to me and I am the happiest man in the world for that and yes, because no one deserves that."

"Then why did you accept my hand in marriage?"

"Because when I saw you, I knew I had to have you."
