Chapter 193: Azzura’s Love Trouble.

Chapter 191
The following day, Era and Vidor stayed apart the entire day. She made every effort to ignore him while giving herself time to adjust to his presence.
In the following two days, Era started to believe that he had decided to stop pursuing her and start living her life.
She opted to work in her study room because the events of the previous couple of days had caused her to accumulate more work than she needed to.
"Please get ready with my things, Aeverie. Today, I’d be working in my study. I must ensure that today at least half or a third of those scrolls are correctly read.
"Yes, your majesty."
"Thank you. Oh, and Azzura, how are the girls? You were the one there yesterday morning, right?" She turned her head to the side to take a peek at what Azzura was doing and found her arranging the clothes. "Azzura?"
"Azzura!" Aeverie yelled out when she found she was not listening.
"Aiyee..." She turned around to see what was happening and met the two ladies laughing at her. "Sorry, did you call, My Lady?" She asked Aeverie, dropping the clothes she had just finished folding.
"No. I was the one who called, but it seems like you got a bush in your head, so you did not hear me," Era explains.
"Oh my," she said, letting out a deep breath. "I am sorry, your majesty. I never meant to ignore you. Please, what do you require of me? I would get it done as soon as possible."
"I know. However, right now I am more concerned about what got you so deep in thought. Come," she patted on the space close to where she sat on the bed. "Come sit and let me hear you out."
She was tempered to refuse, and so she hesitated, her body stiff from not knowing what to do. However, just looking at how concerned Era was, she could not throw that sincerity away and walked up to her.
"Your majesty."
"Sit. I am not biting you, am I?"
A small smile crept up her cheeks. "No."
"Good. So, what is it?"
She closed her eyes briefly, taking a deep breath as she lowered herself to sit beside Era. All the while, Aeverie stood in a corner and watched the two.
"It is... I do not know how to begin."
"Begin from anywhere. Be it the middle, start, or end of the tale. I am all ears," Era assured her.
"Okay. It is, well, there is this boy; he works for one of the Lords. His family is richer than mine, and he has been telling me of his feelings."
"This is good. What’s the long face? Don’t you like him back?"
"I do."
"Great then!" She clasped her hands in front of her face, smiling as though she were the one being coddled, but when she took time to look at Azzura, she noticed the young girl’s face was not looking happy at all.
"Tell me, it is more than that, isn’t it?" She turned to face her fully, taking Azzura’s hands in hers.
"Yes. One thing is for sure, his parents may not like serving girls like me, and then I keep thinking of someone else lately."

"Okay." She narrowed her eyes at Azzura, trying to access the situation properly. It wasn’t just that she was sad that she would not be accepted. She was sad, but at the same time, life brought her another choice.
"Azzura, tell me you met another guy."
"Yes." Her eyes lit up when she said that, and before Era even got to speak further, she began explaining everything. "I met him a couple of days ago." We bumped into each other. He was so nice and helped me up when I fell and inquired about any injuries."
"I see." For some reason, when she made mentioned bumping into someone, Era’s mind went straight to when she bumped into someone the day she took Ora to the orphans, and she shook the thought off her mind.
At least now she has a glimpse of what Azzura is talking about. "Alright, what next?"
"Huh?"
"I meant what happened after that?"
"I met him again another day. We bumped into each other again, but before I fell, he wrapped his hands around me and caught me, preventing me from falling. Then he asked for my name when he noticed I was the one he had met before."
"Nice," Aeverie voiced out from where she stood, making her way towards them.
"We got to know each other’s names and became friends. We also decided to meet up when we were free, and since then, whenever we got the chance, we’ve seen each other."
"Alright, so the problem is that one is confessing his love to you and the other is a friend you like?" Aeverie asked, trying to make sure she got the picture clearly.
"Yes and no. You see, the first confessed to me again, and although I love how he treats me, I cannot shake the thought of his family, and he is also assuring me that he will speak to them. And second, he confessed to liking me yesterday when we met. Both men like me, but I am confused about whom to choose."
Era’s gaze softened as she looked at the girl seated close to her.
She peeled her gaze off of her and looked at Aeverie. They understood the situation very well. She was torn between two guys.
"Okay, can I ask which of them do you like most?" Aeverie helped her simply.
"I do not know." She lowered her head, confused and sad that she was in such a situation.
"I know," Era said out of the blue.
Rating her head to look at Era, she asked, "You do?"
"Yes. Just now, when you spoke about the first boy, you looked sad, as though you knew you were going to disappoint him, but the second you made mention of the second boy, your eyes lit up with life. It was like you were talking about and describing your favourite meal. I could see life in you and happiness. There wasn’t any form of worry, as you do with the first. Even though there is not much certainty, you are happy spending time with him."
"Exactly. She feels pressured by the love of the first but accommodates the love of the second."
"But he hasn’t proclaimed his love to me. He only said he liked me."
"Do you like him or love him?" Era asked.
"I know it has only been a short while, but I feel like I love him. He makes me laugh, he cares for me, and he doesn’t shower me with gifts as the first does, but I know he doesn’t have much, but whenever he can, he gets me something. He listens, is ready to share his thoughts and worries, and plays more. I am free with him."
"And you are not free from the formal life of the first. I see where the problem is coming from," Eda explained.
Azzura shook her head at herself and smiled bitterly.
"Must I choose? Can’t I just be friends?"
"No darling. You can, but obviously, both boys want it to go further."
"I see."
"Okay, you do not have to stress much. Allow your heart to decide, even though I am pretty sure it has, but give them both some time. Try and share your time equally with them for a while till you find yourself."
"How? I enjoy spending time with Avi more than Jasper."
"Be free with them. Also, who knows? What the first may need is a nudge from you to be more open and freer. Nobility has a way of enshrining you at times. Take it from me."
"But he looks too cool. I am scared that when I marry him, I will be forced to live that life."
"And what is bad about nobility?"
"Well, so much scheming. Especially when the new family is not accepting of you. Take, for example, what happened to you. I know his majesty loves you, and I can see he is trying, and you two love each other, but what was done to your people just because you were married in another kingdom, broke you," Azzura let out in pain.
She did not mean to say those words to Era, but when she did, Era understood what she meant and why nobility scared her.
"I see."
Her eyes widened when she realized she had hurt Era by bringing back a memory she wished not to recall.
"Azzura!" Aeverie yelled at her.
"Your Majesty, I am sorry. I never meant to..."
"No need. I understand. It is fine."
"I really did not mean it. I was just trying to..." Era smiled and pressed into Azzura’s hand, causing her to stop.
"Shhh, I mean it. I am not angry. I am fine."
