Married To The Blind Alpha -
Chapter 22: Layla
Chapter 22: Layla
Aria felt bad that she was leaving Tristan alone, but he had assured her that he would be alright.
"Go to school already, Aria. I will be fine." Tristan said with a smile. He was actually pleased that she was worried about him.
Aria hesitated for a bit before she finally gave in. "Ok, I’m leaving, but Cole is coming to take care of you, right?"
"Yes, now go. A car is already waiting outside for you."
"Ok." Aria replied and glanced at him one more time before leaving.
After she left, Tristan was about to go back to his room with the help of his cane when he felt a burning sensation in his hand.
"Talk about wrong timing." Zolan muttered.
Whenever the Elders wanted to have an Alpha meeting, they had the habit of sending the message on their body.
Tristan used his left hand to trace the words that had appeared on his right hand and whispered, "The meeting is tonight."
Tristan sighed as he walked back to his room. "Wrong timing, indeed."

Milan College
For the first time in her life, Aria could not concentrate on anything her lecturer was saying. There were two things occupying her mind at the moment, and the first was what was going to happen now that she had told Tristan the truth. Will he be able to help her? And even though Aria’s main concern was her grandmother, the golden-eyed man has also been able to occupy her mind.
She didn’t understand Tristan’s behavior with her. Even after finding out that she had married him to cause him harm, he still smiled and joked with her. And the way he is always able to make her heart race with his kisses, it makes her wonder if that is what a kiss is always like.
"Aria!"
Aria came out of thought when she heard her name being called. She looked up and saw that it was Mrs. Davis, the finance lecturer, who was calling her, and the other students were already leaving the class.
"Mrs. Davis." Aria softly called out, carrying her books to meet her.
The woman named Mrs. Davis looked at Aria sternly and said, "You were distracted in my class today."
"I’m..."
"Just because you scored the highest in this course last semester doesn’t give you the right to start ignoring lectures. You know what will happen if you fail, right?"
Mrs. Davis was a widow, and Aria likes to think that could be the reason for the middle-aged woman’s bitterness.
Hailey had told her that Mrs. Davis’s husband was a human who was involved in a fire accident, and because of how fragile humans were, he didn’t survive.
As she thought about it, her mind went back to the necklace Tristan had given to her for protection. Perhaps there is truly no difference between her and a human, after all.
"You are a student at this prestigious university on scholarship and have been able to keep that scholarship because of good grades; if your grades dropped even by mistake, then this school will have no use for you, and if you are offended by my words, then pray that in your next life, you will be born as a billionaire daughter."
Aria didn’t even have a chance to say a word before Mrs. Davis walked out on her.
Aria knew she wouldn’t have been able to afford going to a university like this if not for the scholarship; she didn’t need a constant reminder of that.
She sighed and brought out her phone to check if Hailey had replied to any of her messages, but they were still unread.
"Now I’m beginning to worry." Aria whispered as she placed her phone back in her pocket.
She was about to leave the lecture hall when a soft voice said, "Excuse me."
Aria turned to the owner of the voice and saw a girl with dark brown hair, with glasses and wearing a backpack.
I don’t think I have seen her in class before. Aria thought to herself. Then again, she has always been focused on her books and never really paid attention to anybody or anything else except Tristan, who has now invaded her thoughts even in the classroom.
"Sorry for bothering you. I just wanted to snap your notes."
"My notes? Yeah, sure, you can snap them." Aria said and gave the girl her note.
After waiting for the girl to finish snapping her notes, Aria collected back her book and said, "Seeing that you snapped from the beginning of the note, that means you are really behind on lectures."
The girl looked away shyly and softly said, "My mother has been ill, and I couldn’t come to class leaving her alone."
Aria thought of her grandmother, whom she had hardly visited. She would have also loved to be with her grandmother day and night, but she knew that one thing her grandmother has always looked forward to was her graduation day, and that is why she can never allow anything to slow her down.
"You are Aria, right?" The girl asked, putting her glasses in place.
Aria smiled when she saw how nervous the girl was and replied, "Yes, I’m Aria. What about you? What is your name?"
The girl’s eyes brighten when Aria asked for her name, and she quickly said, "Layla."
Aria’s polite smile faltered when she heard the name of the girl. She knew the name wasn’t such an uncommon name, but still...hearing the name of her mother made her heart feel heavy.
"Is everything ok?" Layla asked, after noticing the sudden silence from Aria.
"I... I’m fine. I just remembered that I have something important to do, so I have to go. I will see you later." Aria said and hastily left the classroom.
After she left, Layla removed her glasses, and any trace of shyness vanished from her face. As she watched Aria retreat, her eyes, once timid and reserved, now gleamed with a hint of madness. A sly smirk curled on her lips. "Interesting," she murmured.
