Married To The Blind Alpha -
Chapter 17: Eva
Chapter 17: Eva
Milton didn’t answer Aria’s question right away. Instead, he walked back to his desk, picked up the photograph he had been looking at earlier, and handed it to her.
Aria accepted it and gazed at the picture. It was of a young woman holding a vibrant bouquet of flowers, her smile radiant and full of life.
"That’s my daughter, Eva," Milton said, his voice low.
"She’s beautiful," Aria commented softly.
"She was more than beautiful," Milton replied, his expression darkening. "She was kind, loving, and always had a smile for everyone. That was until she was mated to Tristan." His voice hardened as he continued. "I can still remember her smile when she found out that she had a mate. She was even talking about building her family and having babies but that bastard took away her smile, her laughter, her dream and everything that made her who she was. He turned her into a shadow of herself. She became bitter, paranoid and out of depression and loneliness, she took her own life."
"She... she killed herself?" Aria asked, shocked. Hailey had told her that it was Tristan, who killed his mate but hearing that she had committed suicide out of depression and loneliness sounded worse.
Milton’s fists clenched as he stared into the distance. "I found her lifeless body on the floor of his pack house. And do you know what that monster did? He walked past her like she was nothing. No remorse. No sorrow. Just cold indifference. He didn’t even flinch when he heard his mate was dead."
Aria’s chest tightened. It’s not as if she has known Tristan for years, so why does she find it hard to believe that he would be so cruel to Eva?
"I’m sorry you had to go through that." She said softly.
Milton released a heavy breath, unclenching his fists. "You don’t need to worry, Aria. I won’t let him do to you what he did to my daughter."
Aria hesitated, unsure of what to say, so she stayed silent.
Milton sighed, taking the photograph back from her. He carefully placed it in his desk drawer and pulled out a small bottle of pills.
"How you got married to Tristan doesn’t matter now," he said as he approached her, holding the bottle. "What matters is that you are married to him, and we can move to the second phase of our plan."
"Second phase?" Aria repeated, wary. Now that, she has gotten married to Tristan, she wondered what next this man was going to ask from her.
Milton smiled and placed the bottle in her hands. "The major ingredient of this pill is wolfbane."
"Wolfbane? What’s that?"
"Something deadly to wolves. But unlike every wolfsbane, these pills also contain a poison that can slowly kill a wolf. I want you to give him the pills daily, and within three months, where your grandmother’s temporary antidote will be useless, Tristan will already be dead, and as promised, I will give you the permanent cure for your grandmother’s poison."
"What if someone finds out? I will be killed." She whispered.
"No one will know it was you," Milton said firmly. "I’ll protect you. You have my word." He placed a hand on her shoulder, the grip tightening as he added, "So, will you do it?"
Aria felt his hand on her shoulder tighten as her silence lingered in the air. The bottle of pills in her hands felt so heavy that she was afraid it would slip from her hands, but does she even have a choice in here? There was only one answer to Alpha Milton’s question, and it is that answer that she will give to him.
"Yes, I will do it."
Milton’s face softened into a satisfied smile. "I knew you wouldn’t fail me."
"But you will protect me, right? You will ensure my grandmother is cured."
"I swear on my daughter, Eva," Milton declared solemnly, "that I’ll protect you and give your grandmother the permanent cure."
.....
After her conversation with Alpha Milton, Aria walked out of the mansion in a daze and saw Hailey waiting for her outside.
"Are you done talking to your father?" Aria asked. She could noticed the sad look in Hailey eyes, immediately she saw her.
Hailey shook her head. "No, I’ll have to come back after dropping you at the dorm. Let’s go."
Aria nodded and followed Hailey out.
As soon as they entered the car, Aria asked, "Are you alright? You seem a little bit distracted."
Hailey’s hand that was about to start the car froze for a moment; she forced a smile on her face and replied, "I’m fine. You, on the other hand, look worried. What did Alpha Milton say?"
Aria brought out the pills Alpha Milton had given her and said, "He wants me to put this on Tristan’s food every day, and in less than three months, he will be dead."
Hailey looked at the pills and asked, "Are you going to do it?"
Aria’s lips tightened. She looked out of the window, avoiding Hailey’s gaze. "Let’s just get out of here."
Hailey nodded and started the car.
Throughout the drive, Aria and Hailey were silent, each left to their own thoughts. Even while driving, Hailey would occasionally glance at Aria, who was staring out the window, lost in thought.
What was she thinking? Hailey wondered, as she focused her eyes back on the road.
Now that Alpha Milton has provided a way for Aria to kill Tristan, it no longer seems to be an impossible task. Her brief meeting with her dad was for her to ensure that Aria never strays from her mission, and a failure will mean death for her and her grandmother.
Had she made a mistake by asking Aria to make Tristan fall for her and then ask him to help her? Should she just convince Aria that killing Tristan is no longer an impossible task and she should just get it done and then leave the city with her grandmother?
