Chapter 99: Chapter Eighty-Four

"Did you find anything, John?" I ask as I lean closer to his computer to get a clear view of the letters and words written on the screen.

"I am looking into it," John replies, squinting at the screen.

I don’t understand what the hell in the world he is typing but I am aware that it must be something very important. I am very tense about Erwin and Ruth. I don’t know how they dealt with James. And believe me, I don’t want to think about that motherfucker even for a minute. But the thing is I am very curious about how Jean got James out of jail without my knowledge. I made extra sure that I got informed every time he visited or tried to do something like bail him out.

But so far I got notified about very few visits and Jean didn’t seem to try to get James out of the jail. I thought that was maybe because of my threat, that I would withdraw my shares. But now it seems like I underestimated Jean. He seems to be two steps ahead of me. He used some kind of backhanded methods and got his son out of jail. I should have been more careful.

Seems like all my work and Erwin is making me lose my edge, but I don’t blame Erwin. I am just getting softer for him and he is getting sharper for me. And here I thought I was in charge of the relationship...

"How long will it take for you two to get here?" I ask.

"We are almost here, Leo," Erwin says, I can tell that he is grinning like he never did before even without seeing him. "It will take around ten minutes."

"How?" Ruth pipes in, "We are still thirty minutes away from home."

"You should believe me when I say I will take only ten minutes to reach there," Erwin says, his tone stern. He really has split personalities.

Erwin acts all goofy and childish around me but when it comes to others, he treats them like they are nothing but trash, which holds no value in his eyes. It sometimes really amazes me just how quickly he can switch personalities.

"Okay, then we will be waiting for you." John dismisses them with a stony expression. This duo is really questionable.

John and Erwin switch roles at a lightning-like speed. When John becomes an idiot Erwin corrects him and when Erwin becomes an idiot, John corrects him. It’s really confusing sometimes, but I have grown accustomed to it since I have been around for a long time now. I just don’t understand why Ruth is the only one who is still an idiot. He is a genius at his work but he is an idiot in the circle. Erwin is clearly fed up with him and the way they bicker, it sometimes makes me feel like they are siblings.

"I found something, Leo," John suddenly chimes up and I snap out of my inner dilemma, "You need to see this," John says urgently.

I lean in forward once again, "What is it, John?" My eyes scan the screen and my jaw drops. The screen contains every single confidential information about the company. Nothing left, If this was leaked then the company would be doomed.

"How did they...?" I trail off, my brain settling on the information slowly. I have a feeling that it is working even slower than usual.

"They have gathered all this information for months now." John assumes out loud, "Because it is not possible to gather all this in one go without you noticing. The traitor you have is a very old acquaintance of yours."

"There are many employees in the company who have worked for me for years now." I retaliate, "How am I supposed to know that who is doing all this?"

"How many people have access to your technical lab?" John asks not taking his eyes off the screen.

"The lab members me, the directors, and my assistant." I count the number,

"Anyone who seems suspicious to you?" He asks, now turning to me.

"Everyone seems suspicious to me," I shrug, "which one are we talking about here?"

"A specific someone who knows your all the time tables, schedule, what you eat, where you live, who you fuck, where you shit, everything." Erwin walks into the room, his all-black attire is making me hot all of a sudden. The way it is hugging his every muscle and making... it’s intoxicating.

I feel heat creeps up the back of my neck but I manage to keep a straight face. "You are back." I acknowledge him with a small simple.

"So what were you saying?" John pipes in between my fantasies and particularly slaps my face, pulling me back into reality, "Do you suspect someone?"

Erwin walks up to me then wraps his strong around my waist and places a gentle kiss on my cheek. I tilt my head slightly so that he can kiss me properly. "I suspect so many people that it will take a whole night to list their names. But," He pauses.

"But what?" Ruth folds his arms over his broad shoulder, refraining from touching his boyfriend so that he wouldn’t get beaten by his best friend.

"But there is specific someone who has access to all of Leo’s activity." Erwin continues, "That someone is currently the most suspicious person in my eyes."

"Who is that?" I ask even though I have a vague idea of who that person can be.

Erwin gives me a sidelong glance, then smirks and kisses my forehead affectionately, "I will tell you when I have a solid proof."

"Wait there is another thing we need to talk about." John interrupts again, "What did you do to James?"

Erwin’s eyes glint with a gleam I have never seen before. Dengerous, cruel and ruthless. It makes a shiver run down my spine. "Yes, Erwin." I ask too, "What did you do with James?"

"I took care of him like no one did before," He grins but his grin isn’t goofy like usual. It’s... cruel. Bone chillingly cruel.

"What did you do exactly?" John frowns, "Spit it out, Erwin. I can’t help you otherwise." John crosses his arms over his chest, his expression is stern and nothing like his usual kind self.

"Well... I shot him." Erwin chuckles nervously as he scratches his cheek.

"Where?" John presses further, his dark eyes not leaving Erwin’s face, "We know you shot him two times. But where did you shoot him the third time?"

"In forehead?" Erwin passes and then slowly replies, there is no sign of remorse on his face whether he is quite satisfied at the fact, it seems.

Ruth and my eyes widen and a gasp leaves our throats at the same time. All of a sudden I am still. So still my brain stops processing. I don’t know how to react to the knowledge anymore. My husband killed someone. I should be ashamed and guilty. I should hate him but my heart is telling me otherwise. It’s telling me to love him even more. Telling me to cherish my man even more. Telling me to protect my queen even more. My heart is telling me to grab his face now and kiss him until we are both left restless, and breathless.

But the rational side of me is telling me that I should slap him and demand an explanation as to why he went to such length and killed a man. And I chose neither of them and let the information sink in.

"Leo? Do you hate me now?" Erwin’s gray orbs are searching for mine so desperately, so relentlessly that I have never seen anyone like this before.

"W-Why did you do that...?" Ask softly, my fingers are curling around his t-shirt. "Why...?" My pupils are trembling and my breath is catching in my throat.

"L-Leo, I won’t say I am sorry. Because I am not... I just wanted to punish the guy who did those horrible things to you, to us..." Erwin’s eyes are looking so pained, so beautiful that I am lost in them, sinking deeper and deeper that my heart is getting the better part of me.

"I understand..." I look into his eyes intently, "B-But it can be dangerous. What will happen if they catch you?"

"They can’t do a shit." John pipes in, "The weapons I ordered from the black market for today’s operation were registered under Jean’s name and James is still inside according to the record. So it’s fine."

"How did you do that?" Ruth’s eyebrows jump in surprise.

"My specialty." He shrugs.

Erwin grins and tucks a stray strand of hair behind my ear, "See it’s fine don’t worry about it." He kisses my forehead and rubs my lower back soothingly. I only give him a light nod and lean to his touch.

"Oh Leo about your appointment, let’s do it after the new year. I am going home." Ruth changes the subject.

"Okay." I nod and meet Erwin’s curious gaze.

I know I have a lot to explain to him. But I don’t mind. My queen is my shield after all.
