Chapter 86: Chapter Seventy-Three

My eyes widen before they fall tightly shut. I cover Tina so that she won’t get hurt and wait for the vase to fit me directly on my face and I make a potential trip to the hospital. But the pain never comes. But the glass-shattering noise sure does. My eyes snap open to find Erwin towering over me, covering us with his body. His eyes are glinting dangerously.

I gasp, "Oh my God!" My lips quiver and my heart stops for a bit before kickstarting in a threatening rhythm. "Erwin! Are you okay?! W-Why did you..." I trail off when I spot big beads of blood dripping down the back of his head. My eyes touch my eyebrows.

"I am fine." He jerks his head and taps it with his palm a few times, his gaze is unfocused. "I am fine." he repeats and looks at me concernedly, "Are you alright? Did you get hurt somewhere?"

Meanwhile, Jessie is constantly making a scene, "You whore! You slept with this filthy omega, didn’t you? This is why you want freedom now, don’t you?! You nasty little slut! I will kill you! Come here!"

My heart is beating so loudly in my ears that the other noise around me is muted away. I can’t hear anything, or feel anything aside from the dread pooling at the pit of my stomach, my heart sinking, and sinking so deep that I feel empty.

"Erwin, oh my God." I gasp so hard and breathe so hard that black dots are swarming my vision and leading me to a panic attack. "You are bleeding, oh my God." Cold sweats break out on the surface of my body as I reach out to him with my violently shaking hand.

"I am fine." Erwin envelops me in his embrace to calm me down. "I am fine. Calm down." He kisses the top of my head and gives out orders, "Security! Grab her! Call the police!"

Tina staggers back a few steps before stumbling and falling on her buttock, her eyes bloodshot. She is too gasping and sweating so hard that it’s almost like she just ran a marathon.

The guards filter into the spacious living space and grab Jessie, who is still barking like a mad dog. My butler rushes into the room and offers Erwin an ice bag. Erwin nods in acknowledgment and mutters a "Thank you" underneath his breath while still holding the shaking and panicking me in his strong arms firmly.

"It’s okay, Leo." He kisses my head again, his hand drawing soothing circles on my back. "Calm down. Everything is fine."

Blood is rushing into my brain like a tsunami and flooding any consistent thought with wave after wave of red. My heart is pounding so hard that I am wondering how it is even working and my limbs are trembling like a vibrator on full power. My lungs are burning with the need for oxygen but I can’t breathe. There is a lump in my throat that is preventing me from breathing. I want to clutch my throat and push it down. My eyes are filled with red dots of dread and they are gnawing at me like some hungry monster.

And I find myself in my bed, wrapped in Erwin’s arm. He is repeating the same and the same words in my ears that he is fine. Telling me to calm down. Telling me to breathe. Telling me to look at him. And I breathe. For the first time in what it seems like ever, I breathe. I gulp to lubricate the deserted inside of my throat and look at Erwin. His gray eyes are staring back at mine. He heaves a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness," Erwin breathes in relief, "I thought you forgot how to breathe. Are you okay?"

The blood that was dripping down his head had dried on his nap, on the side of his face, and staining the collar of his shirt. My breath hitches again at the sight. I remember the time when he was lying on the hospital bed, limply. Not talking to me. Not looking at me. Not loving me.

"Hey, hey don’t panic again. I am fine." He holds the ice bag on the spot where he got hurt, "It’s just a little cut. I am completely fine. Okay?" He kisses the top of my head and rubs my back as he pulls me closer. "How are you feeling now? Do you need some water?" He offers me a glass of water and I gulp it down hungrily.

"I am fine," I say, my voice wobble and raspy. "I am fine."

He rubs my back reassuringly, "Yes, you are fine. I have got you, Leo. Don’t worry and just breathe. You are fine. Everything is okay."

"We need to get you to the hospital." I straighten up from our half-sitting and half-lying position and snap my head toward him, "Let’s go. Why did you bring me here? You should have gone to the hospital first. Let’s go now. We need to get you treated, please..."

"I am okay and I don’t need to go to the hospital." He shakes his head, "It is a small cut and I have stopped bleeding. I will just apply a bit of ointment there and will be fine."

"Are you sure?" I eye with so much worry I could never imagine I have in myself, "There is a lot of blood..."

"I am fine." He repeats and smiles reassuringly, "I called the police they will be here in a minute." he informs.

And the previous events dawn on me once again, "W-Where is Tina? Is she hurt? And Rita? What did you do to Jessie?"

"Calm down, calm down." He cups my face and rests his forehead against mine, "Everything is fine, and one question at a time. Tina is completely fine and is in her room with Rita. I had guards holding down Jessie. She has gone a bit too violent."

"Okay." My hot breath clashes against his and we hear the sound of the police’s siren. And it’s close.

The police take Jessie away after recording a detailed statement from the three of us: Erwin, Tina, and me. It’s a good thing because it will only fuel Jessie’s previous crimes and make it easier for us to fight her in court. The trial will start after Christmas. There is a very good chance that we will win the case at the very first trial.

I tried to keep things under wraps as much as possible because it would only damage Tina’s life further and Rita’s life would be out like an open book for the public to gnaw at. I don’t want it. Other than that it will only damage me and my surname and the company will be affected too if I did that. Otherwise, I would be happy to leak all the information to the public without any hesitation or second thoughts.

Tina was really devastated at the scene played out before her and she took even more time than me to calm down. After calming down she broke down and cried so hard that I thought she would faint. I comforted her and calmed her down. She started to apologize after that so urgently that it was almost comical. She is now sleeping in her room with Rita who was left alone with a maid until her mother calmed down. I feel really bad for them.

Erwin is currently sitting between my legs, his back facing me and I sitting at the edge of the tub of the bathroom and wiping away his blood and sweat. There is a large purplish bruise on his back and I am applying ointment on it. My hand occasionally trembles as I keep my touch light and gentle.

Erwin’s head is hanging low between his shoulder and every muscle in his body is taut with tension. They are tensing up more as I touch his smooth yet solid surface.

Suddenly my phone buzzes and I flinch.

"Pick up the phone, Leo." Erwin gets on his bed and strokes my face, "I will go to bed, the painkiller is kicking in."

"Okay," I say and nod.

Erwin nods in return and caresses my cheek with his thumb before walking out of the bathroom.

I pick up the call, "Leon."

"Leo, Jessie was taken to the police station." Leon directly gets to the point, "She is calling me to bail her out. What did she do?"

I give him a brief encounter about today’s events, "She flared violet again."

"Good," Leon says, his tone laid-back, "I am turning off my phone and please tell her to not contact me again."

I chuckle, "I am not talking to her."

"Turn off your phone too then. I think Dad is going to call you soon enough."

"Fine." I snort and cut the call.

I step out of the bathroom to find Erwin has already fallen asleep. A small smile spreads across my face as I see his peaceful sleeping face. He is even snoring softly. I walk to him and place a small kiss on his cheek before leaving the room and making my way to the study. He truly is my queen. My shield.
