Chapter 85: Chapter Seventy-Two

LEO

"What are you talking about, Tina?" Every muscle in my body instantly tenses up and twists into a knot. Erwin notices the sudden change in my expression and leans in to listen to our conversation. "Jessie is there? Please clearly explain." I ask urgently and signal Erwin to pull toward home.

Erwin nods and starts the engine.

"S-She is outside the manor, wrecking havoc. The guards are trying to hold her off but she is accompanied by some men." Tina’s voice shakes even more violently. "I don’t think they will be able to hold her off for too long. C-Could you please come?"

"I am on my way there," I state. "Just hold on a little more and lock the doors and window. Don’t go in front of him until I get there, understood?" I instruct eagerly.

"Yes." Tina sniffles, as if trying to hold back her tears. She sounds so fragile and stiff that it makes my chest squeeze with sympathy. I hang up the call.

"What happened?" Erwin asks, his face unusually contoured with seriousness as he drives toward the manor smoothly, his eyes never leaving the road.

"Jessie is there," I state as I clench my fist to regulate my breathing, tension is knotting every nerve of my body and preventing my body from functioning correctly. "She is making rucks there."

Erwin’s grip on the steering wheel tightens even further, "What do you mean she is making rucks? Is she trying to barge into the house?"

I nod frantically, my jaw clenching so tightly that I am afraid that I might break it.

"Don’t worry," Erwin assures, his hand darts out and squeezes my thigh reassuringly, "we will be there in a minute. They will be fine, trust me."

"Okay."

Breath Leo. Breath. I tell myself as I can feel my lungs burning from the lack of oxygen there.

It doesn’t take us long before Erwin pulls into my manor’s long driveway. He stops the car right before the huge black metal gates of my manor where a few other cars are waiting and a few goons-looking brats are throwing rocks and shouting names.

Erwin gets out of the car first and then I get off. "What the fuck is happening here?"

"Oh, so my dear younger brother is here." The most irritating voice in the world gets out of one of the cars parked in my driveway, "I thought you wouldn’t come and I could take my wife and child back home with me." A cocky smirk is tugging at the corner of her lips and I am only a second away from punching it down. This woman never fails to get on my nerves.

"Jessie, don’t you know that bragging into someone’s house forcefully is something you consider a crime?" I sneer, "And what am I even expecting from you who beat her wife to a bloody lump and even gets violent with her child? My bad."

Jessie’s face dangerously darkens, "She is my wife so I will do whatever I want to do with her and you have no right telling me what to do."

"Oh really?" A scowl from my lips. It’s regardless to say that I am pissed. "So you can just hit a person to your heart’s content and I can’t even raise my voice against it?" I scoff, "Huh, your logic and contexts are as useless and irrational as you."

"You!" Jessie marches toward me and her hand darts out to hit me but the slap never comes as Erwin blocks it with his hand effortlessly.

"Mrs. Snow, you may have hit your wife with this hand but you have no right to raise this hand against my husband." Erwin’s eyes narrow dangerously, his cold gaze piercing through Jessie’s soul and warning her that anything out of the line again and he will bury her alive right here and now. "So, I hope you will be on your best behavior and keep your very breakable hand to yourself if you don’t want it to be pulled out of its socket."

A chill storms down my spine at his word. They are as steady as steel and as sharp as a sharpened blade. Jessie pulls out her hand from Erwin’s clutch and staggers back a few steps, almost tripping over.

"Are you okay?" Erwin turns to me with keen concern in his gray eyes. "Are you hurt somewhere?"

"Huh?" I blurt out as I am still shocked to see Erwin’s other side. I quickly collect myself and nod. "Y-Yeah I am fine. I am not hurt."

Erwin’s eyes are desperately searching for an injury on my face or any visible place on my body. "Good." They relax a bit when they find no injury visible on my skin.

Erwin steps aside and makes room for me and Jessie to talk. "So why are you here Jessie?"

"Isn’t it clear?" She seethes, "I am here to take my wife and daughter back home with me. You forced her to divorce me and file a police case against me. My wife would never do something like that to me."

"Are you sure?" I scoff, my limited and very expensive patience is at last running out, "You tortured her for four fucking years and now when she is trying to be free you don’t want to let her go? Why? You never loved her. And when she is typing escape the loveless, meaningless marriage you just won’t let her." I scoff are you fucking shiting me? Huh? Show me a reason she would go back to you after what you did in the past. And are you just trying to take her back to hurt her and Rita again? Just how cruel can you be?"

"You know what I want to do most right now?" Jessie hisses, "I want to break that pretty mouth of yours that maybe your lowlife husband fucks every night."

"And I will flay your skin before you can even touch him." Erwin counters, the predatory glint in his eyes is screaming that all the words he is spelling, he is grounding them. He will actually flay her skin if she even tries to touch me.

There is a complex mixture of fear and warmth in my heart. I am touched that Erwin is defending me and at the same time I am s fucking scared of my husband and his words that my knees have gone weak.

Jessie flinches and so do I. "I wasn’t talking to you, bastard." Jessie snaps, refusing to back down. She is now only fighting for the fucking sake of fighting.

"You were talking to my better half." Erwin corrects nonchalantly.

"Anyway, let me see Tine." Jessie glares at Erwin for a beat before turning her attention back to me. "I haven’t divorced her yet so you can’t prevent her from meeting me. I want to talk with her and make sure that you aren’t forcing her into divorcing me."

"Do you really think that I would believe you, Jessie?" I rub my nose in dismay, "You are as venomous as a cobra and I know that better than anyone else here. You still expect me to believe you?"

"So what if I am?" Jessie snips, "She is still my wife, legally and you have no right to stop me from seeing her. Open the gates."

"Fine." I nod as I huff a breath, "I will let you in but the moment you cross the line I will throw you out and call the police We can handle the other things at the court."

Jessie just scoffs but doesn’t say anything. I let her in. She is going ahead and Erwin and I are following him since none of us trusts this woman.

I get Erwin to stay with Jessie in the living space and keep an eye on her as I go to Tina’s room to bring her out. I gently but firmly knock on Tina’s door.

"Tina. It’s me. Leo." I call out, "Can you open up a little? I need to talk to you."

A good few seconds later her door creaks open, revealing a horrified face. Her eyes are round with fear, she is particularly trembling with fear. This scene makes my heart clench and my jaw tense.

"Is she gone?" Her breath trembles.

I shake my head. "She wants to talk to you, Tina," I say softly, my eyes softening in an assuring manner.

Tina flinches, "No, no, I don’t want to see her." Her voice trembles. She will hit me again. She will yell at Rita again. No..."

"It’s fine." I grab her hand and squeeze it reassuringly, "Erwin and I will be there, you will be fine. Trust me."

She snatches her hand away from mine, "No! She will hurt me. You don’t know her!"

"She wouldn’t go away if you don’t see her." I try to coax her, "Please?"

Tina stares at me for a brief second before nodding, "O-Okay. I will see him. B-But please be there for me."

"Okay." I nod and smile.

I lead her into the living space and the moment her eyes fall on Jessie she cowers behind me. Jessie’s eyes narrow and she abruptly grabs a vase and throws it in our direction my eyes widen.

"You bitch!" She yells.
