Chapter 82: Chapter Sixty-Nine

ERWIN

The classes have started and I am attending lectures not as a student but as an intern under Professor Margret. I am standing in the classroom where I used to sit. I am looking at the students who used to be my juniors and some of them used to be my batchmates. It’s a weird feeling. The way students are looking at me with astonishment in their eyes...it’s at the same time amusing and uncomfortable.

Even the teachers are giving me almost the same look. Just a bit different. They are astonished about my development but there is a hint of approval in their gaze. It makes me...proud. I have bitten my bottom lips multiple times today to hide the idiotic grin forming my lips.

Today is my first day here and I am already enjoying the day. I haven’t seen Lucy around here yet.

Did she not come? I shouldn’t have told her about it. I wish I could have some more fun bullying her.

"Erwin?" A male voice interrupts me as I stride down the long corridor.

I spin around and spot Henry standing just a few feet behind me. I roll my eyes internally at his sight. I briefly cast a glance at my schedule in my hands, "Did he not graduate? Guess, I have a class with him afterward." I murmur to myself and then look up to him and give him the most forced genuine smile I can manage for now, "Hey Henry. What are you doing here?"

"Me?" -He walks up to me- "I am repeating the semester since my scores weren’t high enough to graduate. What about you? I thought you graduated with the highest score in your department."

"Oh, that’s unfortunate. And me?" I point at myself, " I am working here as an intern. Today is my first day here as an intern under Professor Margret."

"Woah!" Henry’s mouth falls to the ground and I have the urge to tuck some insects inside it. "So, you are Professor Margret’s new research assistant? Woah..."

"Well, this is not something that hard to gain you know." I try to be modest -no, not actually modest because I always knew that I could easily become a research assistant as soon as I graduate. But I can’t tell about the others.

"Huh," Henry snickers, "easy? You are a genius so, of course, it is easy for you but for a dumb student like me, even graduation is as tough as hell."

Of course, it is.

"Mr. Warner." A raspy old worn voice interrupts our conversation and I am almost grateful for that until the next few words which leave me hanging. "Someone is looking for you." The old staff member huffs and scurries off to his work, not letting me ask any questions or telling me where I am supposed to meet this ’someone’.

"What the..." I blurt out dumbfoundedly.

"Something is wrong?" Henry asks.

"No." I press my lips, "But I think I should go now."

"O-Okay. See you later."

I turn around and stride down toward the exit. I whip my head around to spot someone who can catch my attention among the students swarming in and out of the university. And someone really does catch my eye, a pair of two very familiar eyes. They are familiar but their owner is not. The black eyes stare right back at me, they are dull and lifeless, nothing like my Leo. My Leo’s eyes used to be like that but now when they see me, stars and fire ignite in them.

Leon approaches me, "Sorry for the intrusion. I did not mean to disturb your precious time."

"It alright," I assure but my assurance is not quite genuine as a crease appears between my eyebrows. "May I know what kind of business you have with me to come and find me at my workplace? What is the urgency?"

Leon looks around over his shoulders as he tugs on his perfectly pressed deep-blue suit, "May I ask if we could find a more private place to talk?"

"Does this conversation need to be kept private?" I raise an eyebrow.

"I want to talk about Leo," Leon states.

I take the hint and bite the inside of my cheek. "Fine." I nod and look around. "There is a café not too far away we can go there."

"So what did you want to talk about?" I ask, clasping my hand over the table, tension is stiffening my shoulder and clenching my jaw. "I have exactly fifteen minutes before my class starts. And you have ten minutes.

"I want to see Leo, Warner." Leon declares. "And I won’t take so much of your time, Warner."

I snort, "Snow, do you really think that I have the privilege to control Leo?" I look at him with an amused glint in my eyes, "You can’t be more wrong. Leo is a smart, strong independent man. He knows how to make decisions. I have no right telling him what to do." I say pointedly.

"I know you don’t." Leon shakes his head, "I know just how capable Leo is. He is my younger brother. I just want you to talk to him and convince him to meet me, Warner. I need to meet him."

"To do what? To hurt him again just like you did eight years ago?" I ask sarcastically.

Leon’s eyes dim with gloom and his voice becomes quieter, "I know what I did eight years ago is wrong I should have looked into the matter more deeply and let Leo talk for himself. But I didn’t it’s all my fault and I know I am the one who should fix the broken."

"Listen, Snow, I am not in the place to give my judgment regarding the matter." I huff, "But as Leo’s husband I can tell that he loathes you and as his better half I almost feel the same toward you." I pause, "But entirely I don’t. As you have realized your mistake and trying to fix it even after all these years...I think you should give it a chance if you want to fix the broken pieces in your relationship with Leo. I can tell that there is a glint of admiration for you that is still intact in the depth of his heart. Make good use of it and solve whatever mistakes you have made in the past."

Leon nods, "I am trying to but Leo isn’t giving me a chance to do that."

"Then talk him out of it." I shrug. "If he is not convinced then convince him. If you really want to fix then show effort."

"This is the reason I am here, Warner." Leon lifts his head and stares at my eyes pleadingly. He is pleading with me with his eyes but not his mouth.

Guess there is a reason these two are brothers.Too hesitant to express themselves.

"I want you to talk with Leo about this." Leon requests with his eyes, "I want you to convince him to meet me, Warner. I want to fix the broken pieces of our relationship. Just make him see me one. For just half an hour. It will be more than enough."

"Do you think it’s gonna be easy?" I frown slightly, not at all pleased by the way Leon is putting things. He is making it sound so easy when there is a potential threat that Leo will get mad at me for bringing up the topic. "Leo has an unshakable personality. It’s going to be very tough for me to get him to meet you. And over that, I have nothing to do with the complexity between you brothers.

"I know..." Leon grits his teeth, "But please Warner, just try a little okay? I will owe you one."

So he at last said it out loud.

"Very well." I get on my feet, "I will try to talk to Leo about this. And I am doing you a favor so you better return it. I am putting myself on the line here, Snow."

"Thank you so much, Warner." He stands too and his hand slides inside his jacket and pulls out a business card. He offers me the card, "Contact me if he agrees to meet me. I will send the location and the time."

I take the card from his hand and look at it briefly before turning my attention back to Leon. "I will keep that in mind." I shove the card inside my pocket and leave the café without glancing backward.

So, I have a task in my hand and I have to complete it.

***

I am currently walking down the corridor that leads to Leo’s office. I am here again to pick him up.

"Leo!" I poke my head inside first before guiding my whole body inside.

But to my shock, the only thing I get from Leo is a frown and a glance of dismay. He doesn’t even nod at me which is very not like him. He usually stands up and tilts his head for me to kiss his cheek.

He is in a very terrible mood.

"What happened Leo?" I ask him as I approach his desk.

"I should be asking this question." Leo’s frown deepens.

"What do you mean?" I raise an eyebrow.

"What I mean?" He slams his phone on the table. "This."

There is a photo pulled up on the screen. A photo of Leon and me talking with each other and him giving me his card.

Oh, we were being spied, huh?
