Chapter 73: Chapter Sixty-Three

LEO

Last night, I was more embarrassed than I had ever been in my whole life. Liu Feng walked in on Erwin and me when we were making out. My instinct tells me that it was intentional. Erwin intentionally lured Liu Feng in.

I understood it when Liu Feng mentioned that when they met each other earlier last night, their phones got swapped. I asked Erwin about it later that night. He said that he offered Liu Feng a ’friendly’ coffee. Maybe that was the time he exchanged their phones without Liu Feng noticing. He...was trying to show Liu Feng who I owes me. And in the process he embarrassed me. And I... didn’t mind.

I didn’t know that I could be this crazy to be happy at Erwin’s crazy doings. I have completely lost it. And it’s all thanks to my alpha. He has made me go crazy in love.

An instinctive smile spreads across my face as I drive toward my lawyer’s office. I am going there to submit Tina’s divorce application in her stead. I wanted to bring her with me but she said she wasn’t really comfortable with getting out of the house and meeting people all that much. I can understand her. She spent all those years in isolation in that hell hole. Now that she is out, she needs some time to get adapted to her new environment.

Rita has started to come to me too. I guess at first she was scared. She was scared that I would yell at her or try to hit her just like her other mother used to do with her. Just thinking about it makes my soul catch the fire of fury. How can a person be this cruel to hit or scold their child for no reason at all. And other than that she is not even two years old yet. How can you abuse such a poor, fragile soul? Jessie must be a monster to be able to do such a thing to her. If I could then I would like to crash that poisonous head of hers. What a bitch she has become.

But Rita is doing a lot better now. In fact she likes me so much that she doesn’t even want to go to her mother now. Tina literally has to go through a rampage to get Rita out of my arms when it’s her bed time. It’s a total mess every night. Sometimes, even Erwin gets jealous over how Rita gets to stay in my arms more than him nowadays. At that moment, I can’t decide whether to laugh or cry.

I pull up on the driveway before the lawyer’s office. I get out of my car and step into the building. Nobody stops me because everybody knows that all their fame and prosperity is given by me. If I don’t pay their monthly ’penny’ when they need it, there would hardly be a quarter of what they have achieved. I don’t really mind paying them ’tips’ for my jobs because I have the money. I need a way to spend them, you see.

I knock and enter the office room, not waiting for Alex, my lawyer’s answer. He doesn’t really have to since I called him about an hour ago and told him to stay at the office. He knew that I was coming.

"Mr. Snow. Good evening." He greets, all smiles, "It’s a really rare sight to witness you around my office."

"I am a busy man, Alex." I sit at the revolving chair across from him, "My schedule is as tight as hell. And then the new project... It’s giving me a hell of a time."

"Understandable." He acknowledges, "So, you are here for a reason right. And if you are at my office despite your hellish schedule then it must be something you want to get done without catching any attention. Am I right, Mr. Snow?"

"You are getting sharper day by day." I comment, "And yes, your presumption is true. I am here to file a divorce case and I would rather not let the public know about it."

Alex’s eyes widen in shock and his jaw drops to the ground, "L-Leo, don’t tell me that you are planning to divorce, Mr. Warner!" He gasps as if trying to inhale the whole room in one breath, "You can’t do that! You guys are the couple of the year! You can’t get divorce! What will happen to your property, company and shit?!"

I rub my temple, clearly pissed at his ’reading the room’ ability. "Will you shut up, Alex?" I intercept his delusion, "No one—I mean someone is getting divorced and that is definitely not Erwin and me. We are happy together, thank you."

"Oh." Alex looks somewhat disappointed that he isn’t getting any hot tea out of me, "Then who is getting a divorce if it’s not you? And then why are you even here if you are not the one getting a divorce? Where is my client?"

"Will you please keep your mouth in one place, Alex?" I say exasperatedly, "She doesn’t want to come, this is why I am here. Her name is Tina Snow. She is my sister-in-law."

Alex’s eyes are round in surprise, "You mean Jessie’s wife?"

"Yes."

"So at last she is standing up for herself. That’s good. Show me the papers." Alex comments and gets to the word.

Alex used to be my grandpa’s lawyer. After his death, he became my grandma’s lawyer and now he is my lawyer. He is in his early fifties and I have known him since my childhood. He is like a fatherly figure to me though my father is not mentionable.

After we are done sorting out everything needed, I stand up but Alex urges me to sit again.

"Sit, sit, do you have any urgent work waiting for you to sort out?" He asks.

"No, not for the moment. I guess." I sit in my previous seat. "Liu Feng is for some reason going easy on me today. So, I think I can afford a small talk with you."

"That’s good." Alex snorts, "I wanted to talk about the thanksgiving. Will you be visiting this year? I mean, you went to Ruth’s last year. It should be my turn now. Molly will be really happy to see you."

I often go to Alex’s place for Thanksgiving since I don’t have anywhere else to go. Molly, Alex’s wife, is really fond of me; she treats me like I am her own son. And sometimes I visit Ruth’s family home in Colombia to spend Thanksgiving. Sometimes Jules comes in for Thanksgiving too. So, I was never really alone that day.

Thanksgiving is looming over the horizon and I have my doubts about it too. Erwin doesn’t really have any family so where does he go for Thanksgiving every year? Who knows. I fathom I have never really asked him about it.

"I am not sure, Alex," I reply a hint of guilt can be detected in my voice. "I need to ask Erwin about it first before deciding anything."

"I get it." Alex nods, "Take it easy and let me know what you two decide. I will be waiting for your call." He smiles, his brown eyes reflecting kindness.

I melt, "I will. And please arrange the case as soon as possible."

"You know I have got this." He winks and I wind out of his office with a last smile.

I know there will be complications in this case since Jessie has the backing of my whole family and the power of money. She will try to pressure Tina to return to her with Rita and many other things. But I will not fall behind too. Because I am all she needs. I will be the one to have her back. I lack neither money nor power, so there is not much to worry about.

I slid into my black polished car I chose this morning because I thought my old car was getting too old for me. I fasten my seatbelt with a little click and put my hands on the steering wheel. I wince at the sudden buzzing of my phone. I check the caller ID and plug my earbuds. I receive the call as I pull out of the driveway.

"Kevin," I say, no emotion is reflected in my tone.

"Umm, Leo, I think you need to see this." Kevin stammers, he sounds tense.

"What?" I furrow my brow.

"I am sending you a link. Check this out." He takes a moment before rushing out, probably contemplating his words on how to explain the situation. By the intensity in his tone, I presume that the situation is quite dire and I need to brace myself for whatever comes next.

I pull my car to the side of the street and slide open my screen. I pull out Kevin’s contacts and click on the link he just sent me. My eyes narrow. It’s an article on Erwin Warner. The alpha of Leo Snow.
