Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle' -
Chapter 427: Who Are You?
Chapter 427: Who Are You?
Luke sneered, "Weren’t you all just saying that anyone who can get the sheet music in five minutes is a genius? Funny how nobody thought that was cheating until Selina did it—oh, I see. Double standards, right?"
"If Riley gets first place, she’s a prodigy. If Selina gets first, it must be cheating. Is that what you mean, Mr. Hanks?"
Scott’s face darkened.
This wasn’t just about Riley losing the game.
He was about to lose 5% of his shares!
He’d thought Logan was just throwing around a bit of pocket change to back Selina—but Logan had planned this all along!
And right then, Selina spoke up lazily, as if she didn’t care at all:
"Mr. Hanks, since I won, forget about that SYY villa. Just wire me the cash equivalent."
Scott clenched his fists.
Selina raised an eyebrow with a half-smile.
"Mr. Hanks, you’re not thinking of backing out, are you?"
Luke chimed in helpfully, "Oh, maybe you don’t know—Mr. Hanks and Logan made a bet just now. Hanks bet 5% of the CY Club’s shares on Riley coming in first. But you won."
Selina blinked in sudden understanding.
"Oh, so because of me, Mr. Hanks is already out 5% of his shares. Hmm... Asking for a villa on top of that would really be pushing it. Fine, let’s drop it."
Luke clutched his chest in mock agony.
"The SYY villa is worth over a hundred million! And you’re just letting it go? Boohoo—Selina, you’re too kind!"
Selina sighed.
"What can I do? Even though Mr. Hanks swore before the game that he wouldn’t be a sore loser, he’s clearly trying to back out now. There’s nothing I can do about that."
Scott’s throat tightened watching the two of them put on this little show.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford to lose—it was that he hadn’t expected to lose this much!
"Riley, you’re back?"
"Riley, Ms. Clark already—"
Everyone turned to see Riley standing there with tears in her eyes. She shook her head at Scott.
"I already know. Selina beat me to the sheet music."
Once the first person found the music, the assistants would notify the others to stop searching.
When Riley learned Selina had gotten there before her, she’d felt like her heart was soaking in acid. She’d smashed everything she could reach.
The staff had been so terrified they didn’t dare breathe. But Riley still had to act gracious and congratulate Selina.
She nearly bit through her lip, but forced out a stiff smile.
"Congratulations, Selina. I didn’t think you’d be that fast... But those clues and codes—how did you solve them so quickly?"
Selina beamed.
"Codes? I didn’t solve any codes."
Riley’s eyes lit up, like she’d caught her.
"That’s impossible! Scott set up codes all through the room. Don’t tell me you broke in without solving them?"
Riley sighed, trying to sound reasonable.
"It’s just a game... you don’t have to be so desperate."
People around them were starting to look suspicious.
Scott’s game had been designed for Riley.
She knew the shortest route—she just needed to crack the codes.
But Selina hadn’t solved any? That could only mean she’d taken a shortcut. She must have forced the lock to get the sheet music in five minutes.
She couldn’t even play the game properly and still had the nerve to claim first place. Shameless!
Scott’s expression turned stormy.
"Miss Clark—"
But Logan cut in smoothly.
"Mr. Hanks, did you ever say before the game started that shortcuts weren’t allowed?"
The room fell silent.
Everyone looked at each other.
Scott hadn’t actually said it!
"I might not have said it, but—"
"Since you never said that, and this is my wife’s first time playing your little game, how was she supposed to know the rules?"
Logan sounded casual, but his eyes went cold.
"Or should I assume you’re deliberately targeting her?"
Scott’s heart skipped a beat.
"Logan, don’t make it sound so serious! Riley was just curious, that’s all. But Miss Clark broke the rules to get first place, so obviously—"
"That’s not right, Mr. Hanks," Selina interrupted calmly. "It wasn’t me breaking the rules. It was your rules that weren’t thorough enough."
Selina shook her head.
"Miss Nelson, when I reached the sheet music room with the lock, I didn’t pick it."
Riley bit her lip.
"Selina, you don’t have to lie. I get it."
"Who said you have to use the code or pick the lock to get in?"
Selina gave a cool smile.
"Mr. Hanks, did you not know there’s a hidden passage to that room?"
—What?!
There’s a secret passage to the code room?!
"From the second turn in the hallway, you keep going in and there’s a hidden door," Selina explained clearly.
"Go through that hidden door, across a meeting room, and you’re in the code room."
She spoke in detail, then looked genuinely puzzled.
"Since I know that path, why would I bother going the long way to unlock anything?"
Scott’s face turned black as ink. The whole crowd was stunned.
Riley couldn’t even maintain her sweet persona anymore.
"That’s impossible! The CY Club doesn’t even—"
"Miss, that passage does exist," the manager’s guilty voice cut in. "It just hasn’t been used in years, so we never told you..."
Riley swayed slightly, her face draining of color.
There really was such a passage?!
So Selina finding the sheet music was completely legit?!
But she still refused to let it go.
"Even if there’s a passage, how did you know about it?"
"There’s no need for me to explain that to you, Miss Nelson." Selina’s tone was slow and relaxed.
"But if you insist on grilling me, it makes you seem just as sore about losing as Mr. Hanks."
"I..."
"That’s enough, Riley."
Scott took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. He put on his usual carefree Hanks smile.
"Miss Clark, you’ve won fair and square. As promised, the sheet music is yours. I’ll convert the villa in the SYY District into cash and transfer it to your account."
"And I’ll have my assistant and lawyer handle the 5% shares to transfer to Logan."
He smiled warmly.
"Just a little game, everyone. Let’s not kill the mood."
Selina raised an eyebrow. At least this Mr. Hanks knew how to be gracious in the end.
The birthday party ended. Selina and Luke got into Logan’s car.
Luke was practically vibrating with excitement.
"Selina, how did you know there was a secret passage? Did you see their faces? That was amazing!"
Selina looked out the window, sounding offhand.
"I used to love hiding there when we played hide-and-seek."
Luke didn’t really get it. He thought she was just being casual. But Logan’s eyes flickered.
When they got to Sapphire Valley Villa, all three got out. Selina led the way.
The butler was already in bed. The whole villa was quiet as Selina unlocked the door and walked in.
Logan frowned. He had a nagging feeling Mrs. Reid was in a bad mood. He remembered she’d said she had something to tell him once they were home.
He followed behind.
"Mrs. Reid—"
But he didn’t even make it inside. Selina stopped in the doorway, blocking him.
Her expression was cool as she tucked her hair behind her ear and gave him a puzzled look.
"Logan said he wouldn’t be back for a week. Who are you? I don’t know you."
It was only the fifth day.
Luke’s eyes went wide. Damn, Selina’s got guts!
Logan’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
"I came back early—"
"Came back early for Riley’s birthday? Then you’re definitely not Logan. Mr. Reid would never be that unfaithful."
Selina arched an eyebrow, then completely ignored him and turned to Luke outside the door.
"Come in. We’re closing the door."
Luke let out a whoop, practically bounding in like an overexcited puppy, zooming past Logan into the villa.
The door slammed shut with a loud bang.
And the "unfaithful" Mr. Reid was left standing outside in silence.
