Chapter 411: Lining Up to Pay Respects

Logan and Selina were dressed in all black, solemn and dignified.

They each held white chrysanthemums, white mourning flowers pinned to their chests. Selina didn’t wear any makeup or jewelry.

Their expressions were serious—no hint of a smile—as they walked in slowly.

Everyone was stunned: "..."

Was this... a party entrance? They looked like they were attending a funeral.

Anyone with a brain could tell—they were wearing mourning clothes.

The white chrysanthemums, the white paper flowers, the all-black outfits... Who dresses like that for a celebration?

The room fell dead silent. Amelia went from frozen, to shocked, to furious in three seconds flat.

That ungrateful bastard Logan! What did he mean by this? Showing up to Owen’s celebration in mourning clothes—was he cursing Owen to die?!

Owen’s face flushed red and white in turns. But after a second, he saw an opportunity.

Logan was an idiot. If he wanted to mock him, did he really have to do it today? Wearing funeral clothes to his event—people would just think Logan was petty and cruel.

Owen broke the silence, pretending to be hurt but understanding. "Big brother... did you... wear the wrong clothes?"

People thought Owen was being generous, at least offering Logan an out.

But Logan didn’t even look at him. "No."

Owen’s eyes welled with tears, like he’d just been stabbed in the heart. His voice shook. "Big brother... why are you doing this? If you didn’t want to come, you could’ve just stayed home... Why come dressed like this to humiliate me..."

Selina almost laughed out loud. Wow, what a manipulative little snake.

Amelia couldn’t hold it in anymore. She snapped, "Logan! Who the hell do you think you are, showing up in mourning clothes at a party?! Were you raised by wolves?!"

Grandpa Perry’s face was dark. "Looks like we made the right call giving the Perry name to Owen. Logan, could you act like an adult for once?!"

No one else dared to speak.

Amelia was livid.

Today was supposed to be Owen’s big moment, and Logan ruined it with a funeral procession.

When the story got out, no one would remember that Owen was named heir of the Perry family today. They’d only remember that Logan crashed the party in funeral clothes and stole the spotlight.

Disgraceful!

Her rage boiled over, and she screamed without thinking.

"I thought you’d changed! I thought you finally accepted your brother! But no—you’re still the same! He’s Anna’s son, and you’re just a bastard! You owe her everything, and now you pull this stunt at Pear Blossom Estate? You have no shame!"

Murmurs spread across the room. "She’s not wrong. The Perry Family has done some shady things, but cursing someone to die? That’s over the line..."

Amelia saw her chance and pushed harder. "You said you’d attend this event, Logan. I thought you’d finally grown up. But this? Who are you to hate your own brother?!"

Logan already knew Amelia was shameless. But today, she had truly outdone herself.

Who are you to hate your own brother?

Logan gave her a cold, mocking look, half a smile playing at his lips.

That was Selina’s cue.

She blinked innocently. "Mrs. Perry, hold on a sec. What does any of this have to do with Owen?"

Amelia, still fuming, nearly choked. "What do you mean—how does it not—?!"

"Of course it doesn’t," Selina said, looking genuinely puzzled. "We’re not here to mourn Owen."

She tilted her head. "Unless... Mrs. Perry, you really think we wore mourning clothes to curse Owen to die? Yikes. That’s such a dark thought. Really makes you wonder what’s going on in your head."

Amelia choked. "You—"

"Jack, come on in," Selina called, cutting her off.

A group of people in black suddenly appeared from who knows where. Jack walked at the front, holding a framed photo. He placed it solemnly on a ceremonial table.

Everyone turned to look, curious—whose photo was it that warranted such formal respect?

Then they saw it.

It was Anna’s memorial portrait. The room went dead silent.

Selina and Logan bowed deeply in tribute, then placed their white chrysanthemums beside the photo.

Everyone was stunned.

Mr. Reid was... actually here to hold a memorial? But—but—

Amelia was shaking all over. Her eyes locked onto Anna’s portrait, her fists clenched tight.

Anna. Anna!

Logan was holding a memorial service for Anna—at Owen’s party. Was he insane?! That little bastard. That mutt!

Ugh! This was cursed! That woman was dead and gone, and she still had to ruin Owen’s big day with a memorial? Seriously?!

After finishing the ritual, Selina turned to the crowd.

"What are you all just standing there for? Aren’t you going to pay your respects?"

Jack and Jaxon began passing out white chrysanthemums to the guests.

Everyone looked at each other, stunned and frozen, unsure what to do. Ethan was the first to move, offering flowers in tribute. Slowly, unsurely, people began lining up, one after another, laying flowers before Anna’s portrait—some out of respect, some out of confusion, some simply not wanting to cross Logan.

Selina smiled faintly, her tone laced with sarcasm.

"Mrs. Perry? Second brother? You’re Anna’s dear little sister. You’re Anna’s beloved son, aren’t you? Surely you won’t skip paying respects?"

"Selina!" Amelia exploded, face twisted with rage. She screamed and stormed forward—then slapped all the offered flowers to the floor with a loud smack.

"What the hell is this?! What are you all doing?! This is Owen’s celebration! You’re holding a funeral?! Are you trying to ruin everything?!"

Selina looked down at the flowers scattered across the ground. Her expression darkened.

She calmly bent down and picked them up one by one, gently placing them back beside the portrait. Then she smiled—cold and sharp.

"Mrs. Perry, what are you talking about? I’m confused. Owen’s celebration? Wait—Logan, isn’t this supposed to be... something else?"

Logan’s eyes turned cold as ice. The look he gave Amelia was the kind of look you gave the dead.

"Strange. I didn’t realize today was a party for my little brother."

Amelia screamed, her voice shrill and wild. "How is it not?! Everyone knows today is Owen’s big day! Do you even understand how long the Perry Family spent planning this? You little bastard!"

Owen teared up, pretending to hold back emotions.

"Big brother... I know you don’t like me. You could’ve just said so. Why do this in front of everyone, just to humiliate me..."

"This is Owen’s celebration? The Perry Family is throwing Owen a party today?!"

Selina’s face went cold. She suddenly turned sharply toward the crowd.

"Everyone knows this? Grandpa Perry, you agreed to this?"

Grandpa Perry saw Anna’s photo and nearly lost his soul on the spot. At Selina’s question, rage and panic surged through him.

He couldn’t control Logan—but a younger woman? That he could handle.

"Owen is Anna’s son! And my most beloved grandson! Why wouldn’t I agree?!"

Amelia screamed like a madwoman.

"Logan, you agreed! You said we could hold the event at Pear Blossom Estate to celebrate Owen! And now you’re pretending you didn’t?!"
