Chapter 410: The Bigger the Show, the Bigger the Shame
Chapter 410: The Bigger the Show, the Bigger the Shame
Three days later — March 28th.
The weather was beautiful. It was spring, and the pear blossoms were in full bloom. From the entrance of the Pear Blossom Estate, all one could see were white blossoms and lush greenery, arranged with elegance and precision. The scenery was breathtaking.
The entire estate had already been taken over by Amelia’s people. The banquet would begin in two hours, and everyone was busy with preparations.
Owen had been in a great mood for days.
Logan hadn’t even put up a fight—he just handed over the Pear Blossom Estate without a word.
And once the banquet started, the Perry Family would publicly confirm his identity. He’d be one step closer to gaining it all.
As for Logan... Hmph. Some people were just born to be sacrifices.
Anna was sacrificed for the Perry Family. Logan was the same for the Reid Family.
So what if they were talented? In the end, they were just paving the way for someone else. Glorified stepping stones.
Owen had already decided—he would move into the Pear Blossom Estate from now on.
"Young Master Owen, Madam asks that you go change—guests are arriving."
Owen grinned proudly. "Let me know the second Logan shows up," he said, ready to savor the moment when the defeated dog showed his face.
...
Five minutes before the banquet.
The guests had all arrived. The Perry Family might have been on the decline in recent years, but with the Reid Family as in-laws, no one dared to disrespect them.
As the banquet neared its start, members of the Perry Family began to make their entrance. Amelia stayed close to Grandpa Perry, but even with everyone present, something felt off.
"Didn’t Madam Reid say Logan would be here today? Why haven’t we seen him?"
"I don’t know, but something feels strange. Don’t you think Logan looks more like Anna’s son than Owen does?"
"There’s no way they’d lie, right? Grandpa Perry and Mr. Perry the Second both confirmed it."
"Yeah, but the old lady never did. You all know how biased Grandpa Perry is toward his adopted daughter—lying for her wouldn’t be out of character."
"Plus, Mr. Perry the Second and Mr. Perry are both illegitimate sons. Back when Anna was alive, they did everything they could to undermine her. You think their word is worth anything?"
"So what you’re saying is... the Perry Family could be lying about Owen being Anna’s son, just to rewrite her will and rob Logan of his inheritance?"
"Ahem! Young Master Owen—what brings you here?"
Instant silence.
Owen’s face turned dark—he was livid.
He was supposed to be the star today. Everyone who saw him should’ve been singing his praises. Yet these ungrateful idiots were... defending Logan?! Claiming he stole from Logan?
What a joke. Steal? Logan was born to be his stepping stone. He was the main character of this story. Everything good in the world belonged to him. How could it be considered stealing?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Just as he was about to explode and kick those people out, a soft female voice cut him off.
"Owen."
Amelia approached from behind, pretending to sound helpless.
"Alright, don’t take it to heart. From an outsider’s point of view, of course it sounds strange—you were raised as my son, and now you’re suddenly Anna’s. It’s a bit... jarring."
Owen couldn’t help but respond with a cold, sarcastic tone.
"Well, yeah, only people who don’t know the truth would talk nonsense. Not that I care, of course."
Amelia cast a sharp warning glance at the group, her expression darkening.
The banquet officially began.
Grandpa Perry took the microphone and stepped forward.
"I’m sure many of you have already heard about Owen’s identity. I won’t keep it a secret any longer—today, we’re here to set the record straight."
"Owen is, in fact, my daughter Anna’s biological child. He spent all these years being raised under Amelia’s name only because we feared for his safety—he lost his mother so young, and we didn’t want him to grow up unprotected."
"But Owen is a man now, and it’s time the truth came to light!"
"At the same time, the Perry Family will also be amending Anna’s will. She died without knowing the truth and didn’t leave Owen anything. For her own flesh and blood to receive nothing—this is simply too unfair to Owen!"
Grandpa Perry finished his speech with righteous authority, but the audience quickly erupted into whispers.
They thought today was just about officially announcing Owen’s identity. No one expected the Perry Family to tear up Anna’s will.
"I heard Anna’s will clearly stated that all of her inheritance would go to Mr. Reid. Now the Perry Family wants to rewrite it? Isn’t that just stealing from Mr. Reid?"
"This is way too much, even for the Perry Family."
"Exactly. If they wanted to contest the will, why didn’t they do it years ago? Now that Mr. Reid has built up her businesses and made them thrive, they suddenly want to hand everything over to Owen? Shameless..."
"Everyone, please calm down," Grandpa Perry said, raising his hand. "Logan is aware of this, and he’s agreed."
What? The crowd was stunned.
Amelia blinked, then quickly stepped forward with a helpless expression.
"Our Perry Family isn’t unreasonable," she said sweetly. "We wouldn’t redistribute Anna’s inheritance without Logan’s consent."
"Logan’s an illegitimate child—he probably feels guilty about holding onto my sister’s legacy."
Someone in the crowd asked doubtfully, "If Mr. Reid agreed to all this... then why isn’t he here?"
Amelia smiled. "Of course Logan’s coming. He just got held up."
She looked composed, but deep down she was growing anxious.
Where was Logan?
He promised he’d be here when he got the invitation. The banquet had already started—so where the hell was he?
Did he back out? Her jaw clenched slightly, and she gave a subtle look to one of her people.
He better show up. She wouldn’t allow anything else.
"Alright, I’ll begin reading Anna’s will now. All of the following properties and businesses will be transferred to Owen..."
As Grandpa Perry started listing the assets, the audience’s expressions slowly changed.
Wait, that chain of stores was Anna’s?
That restaurant brand too?
Mr. Reid’s been managing all of that this whole time?
And now they were just giving it all to Owen? Was this some kind of joke?
By the time Grandpa Perry finished reading, Owen stood there beaming, fully expecting everyone to start fawning over him.
He now owned multiple businesses and commercial properties. His net worth soared by tens of billions. How could they not flatter him?
Logan probably never expected that everything he worked for would eventually belong to—
"Did Mr. Reid really agree to give all this up?"
Owen’s smug moment was shattered—not by praise, but by doubt.
No one believed it.
They had assumed Anna’s legacy was just the Pear Blossom Estate and maybe a few houses.
No one expected it to include an entire business empire.
And the thing was, when Anna passed, these businesses were all on the verge of collapse. It was Logan who rebuilt them from the ground up.
Just give them away? Not a chance.
"This smells like a setup. Mr. Reid’s not here—how do we know the Perry Family isn’t lying?"
"God, is the Perry Family manipulating public opinion to justify stealing Mr. Reid’s assets? And if he refuses, they’ll probably call him ungrateful!"
"So this was the real agenda all along... vicious, underhanded..."
"Shut your mouths!" Amelia snapped, unable to hold back any longer. These people were outrageous! Logan had agreed—he had to show up!
Once he arrived, everything would fall into place.
"Someone, get Logan for me—now!"
...
Meanwhile, at the Perry Family’s ancestral shrine...
Grandma Perry was quietly honoring Anna’s memory.
Logan and Selina stood beside her, bowing in reverence.
When they finished, Selina glanced at the time.
"Amelia’s probably panicking right about now," she said casually. "Frantically trying to track you down. Mr. Reid... shall we?"
Logan’s lips curled into a calm smile. Dressed in black mourning attire, with a white flower pinned to his chest and a bouquet of white chrysanthemums in hand, he nodded.
"Yes. It’s time we head to the Pear Blossom Estate—and give them a little surprise."
...
Back at Pear Blossom Estate...
The expressions in the audience were growing darker and more skeptical by the minute. Amelia was barely holding it together.
She was about to lose her temper when suddenly—
"Mr. Reid and Mrs. Reid have arrived!" a security guard called out from outside the doors.
Everyone turned sharply toward the entrance... and then froze.
