Chapter 401: I Know You!

Chapter 401

"What’s going on?" Vanessa shouted as the whole family could be seen twisting and turning around after hearing a reverberating boom from outside.

They had all been sitting around, breathing raggedly due to exhaustion from fighting a hundred men. Luckily, they managed to win their fights, albeit not easily, since the order from Yami was to not kill them.

That’s why the hundred men were currently seen groaning in pain on the ground. Some were unconscious, while others were still conscious but unable to lift a muscle as they writhed and whimpered.

"Your dad... he..." Clarice stuttered as she stared up at the huge hole in the ceiling. "Let’s go out now," she ordered as she bolted outside, followed closely by Finral, Vanessa, Millie, and Grey.

In less than a minute, the whole family was outside. What they saw shocked them to the core.

The entire garden was obliterated. Huge craters filled the once lush field of grass and plants. Deep gouges and jagged slashes—marks of brutal sword clashes—lined the earth. And most terrifying of all, the captain of the Midnight Sun was sprawled across the ground.

One of his hands and one of his legs were gone, leaving him with a single limb each, both gushing blood like a fountain as he lay there—still breathing, still alive.

Yami knelt nearby, his abdomen bleeding slightly. Beads of sweat trickled down his temples, his breathing was uneven, and his sword lay beside him.

"Yami!" Clarice cried, about to dash forward, but Yami raised a hand, halting her.

With all the strength he could muster, Yami pushed himself up, using his sword for support. He stood shakily and slowly strode toward the captain, who couldn’t move due to his injuries.

"Here," Yami said as he reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a small bottle filled with a deep crimson liquid that bubbled faintly.

"Wh... what’s that?" the captain asked, furrowing his brow, helplessly watching Yami approach.

"A potion. It’ll help sear your wounds and stop the bleeding," Yami replied, uncorking the bottle.

"Why are you helping me? I almost killed you," the captain asked with a confused frown.

"You just said it. You almost killed me, but you didn’t. I managed to survive. And you need to, too," Yami said as he crouched down and poured the potion into the man’s mouth.

Instantly, the captain felt a rush of energy surge through him. The stumps where his hand and leg used to be began to sear, the bleeding ceasing. But the potion didn’t regenerate his severed limbs.

"I’m sure your clan can figure something out about this," Yami shrugged, pointing toward the severed arm and leg that lay just a few inches away.

"Sir Yami!" Grey called as he strode over, ignoring Yami’s earlier warning not to come closer.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I am," Yami chuckled. "Just a light hole in my stomach. Nothing I haven’t experienced before." He let out a tired laugh.

"Good. At least you’re not dead. Because if you were, I’d have to start looking for someone else to teach me Ki and fighting techniques. And honestly, I don’t want to deal with all that stress right now," Grey sighed as he turned to leave.

"Wait! Is that what you’re worried about? Finding a new teacher? Won’t you be sad if I die?!" Yami shouted, eyes wide as he stared at Grey.

"Sad? Why would I be?" Grey said, half-turning to face him. "At least we’ll finally get some peace from your awful toilet jokes." He looked around. "Am I right, guys?"

"Uhun!" Clarice and the girls nodded in unison as visible steam looked like it was starting to seep out of Yami’s head.

"Even my family too? So my gut feeling was right! No one cares about me, no one loves me!" Yami shouted, grabbing his hair dramatically.

"I don’t know about the toilet jokes," Finral said as he turned to look at Yami. "But if he were gone, at least I would have inherited the dojo."

"What?! Even you too?!" Yami cried out, clutching his chest in an exaggerated fashion.

Finral just shrugged in response.

"Fine! For this, Grey, I’m going to go hard on you during training. Vanessa, no more outings with Grey. Same thing applies to you, Millie."

"Oh, what?!" the trio shouted at once in shock as Clarice chuckled loudly.

"And you, my beautiful, darling wife. No more bedroom activities for a week," Yami huffed as he crossed his arms.

"Kek, kek, kek." Clarice chuckled, her shoulders rising and falling. "Thanks for that gift, my darling husband. At least I know I’ll finally have rest for once in forever."

"You aren’t annoyed?" Yami asked with wide eyes.

"Why would I be? When I know you’ll come begging for it in no time," Clarice laughed.

"Arghh! All of you are so annoying!" Yami shouted, grabbing at his hair again.

’These family,’ the captain, who lay on the bare ground staring up at the sky, thought as he listened to their conversation. ’They are certainly built different and look to be dangerously strong.

Most especially this Yami dude. What was that technique from earlier? I... I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before. Who are the Cromwell family? When using that technique, he was so serious, and the next second, he’s this... What a strange gu—’

The man’s thoughts trailed off as his eyes suddenly widened in shock.

Not only the captain but even Yami felt it and so did Grey and Finral — as they all slowly turned around in alarm, their expressions turning serious. This prompted the girls to raise an eyebrow.

"What’s wrong?" Vanessa asked, just as Yami instinctively gripped his sword tighter, his brow furrowed as he stared off into the distance.

"It... he’s getting closer," Finral muttered, taking a stance in anticipation of what was to come.

The girls didn’t know what was happening, but the guys had felt something — an aura. A power similar to the one exuded by the captain lying on the ground. It immediately got them worried, and rightfully so.

"Up above!" Grey shouted, and everybody’s head instantly snapped upward toward the sky. A small shadow was cast over them.

The next moment, something crashed into the ground just a metre in front of them, kicking up a wave of dust and debris. Instinctively, they shielded their eyes with their hands as the dust slowly began to settle.

Within seconds, visibility returned — and standing before them was a massive, bulky man. His frame was so wide and muscular that it looked like his shirt was barely holding together, nearly ripping apart.

His piercing green eyes scanned the area as his head twisted and turned, causing his long blue hair to whip through the air. Wrapped around his head was a yellow bandana, embroidered with the insignia of a yellow sun.

That bandana was unmistakable — it marked him as a captain ranked under the Midnight Sun Clan. Everyone gulped almost simultaneously. They were exhausted. Weakened. And now this.

"Wait... I know you!" Finral suddenly blurted out, making everyone turn toward him as the teen continued to stare intensely at the bulky figure standing before them.
